With the interviews done, and his name cleared for battle, Mint schedules the next bout. He knew of MATIAS SILPH . His reputation preceded him of course but... he'd only really known some bulked up dude that had awkwardly sat with him while they listened to pokemon fucking. [break][break]

Very strange experience. [break][break]

But it had been normal, pleasant even. Something that seemed to be a rarity with him. What he encounters isn't quite what he'd expected form a recruiter. He opens the doors to the chambers to find a strange white room, filled to the brim with small interconnected sections and colorful but affordable Swedish furniture. [break][break]

The air smelled like ikea meatballs, and Mint made a mental note to grab some on the way out. He rarely bothered making the trip out after all. [break][break]

"Hey! I'm here to sign up for the military!" he called out, greeting his opponent. He wondered if maybe the E4 was sleeping in one of the loft beds set up around the pitch. [break][break]

when they had asked matias how he wanted his elite four chamber designed, he replied "go crazy with it," fully expecting something volcanic-themed or maybe something to do with nature, considering his partnership with virizion.[break][break]

what they gave him, however, is an affordable furniture showroom. not that he particularly minds.[break][break]

hidden around a corner by stacked chairs, matias steps out and approaches the challenger.[break][break]

"For free?" Mint countered, already pulling off a pokeball and stepping to the pitch. "And I don't have to bribe you with sour gummy bewears?" he asked, feeling the adrenaline begin to flow. His first match against, one of the most infamous E4. He's sure jayden cross would be interested in hearing about this. [break][break]

Then again, maybe he shouldn't tell him. He tosses out his Flareon, and the bundle of fire and fluff stands poofed out and ready. "What was it again...? Challenged makes the first move?"

that would make the challenge easier for mint. not by much, but even the smallest of edges may prove to be the difference.[break][break]

he turns away to make his way through the furniture store to assume his position.[break][break]

the flareon, when looked at in the context of the battlefield, blends in with a particular collection of chairs. its size makes it difficult to find. but on the other hand, it also makes it difficult to see incoming threats.[break][break]

a SHADOW BOLT arcs around the corner, violently weaving through furniture to find the flareon.[break][break]

Mint snorts, liek it's the most ridiculous question he's been asked. But...sure enough, he reaches into his backpack. "Unopened. Just for my favorite army recruiter." he said, presenting the bag of gummy bewears with a bit of flair before throwing them up into an arc towards the E4. [break][break]

"Thanks!" he chirped before watching the strangely colored attack zip towards his partner. It doesn't look lie ka normal attack, but the crackling that follows it and the speed it flies seems like its electric. [break][break]

His Flareon tries to avoid the weird attack but it nicks their back leg toppling them over. "Fall with it!" he called out as the eeveelution seemed roll on the ground before getting back on its feet. They pop back up and pounce forward, landing on the pitch. Out form under them like a wave pulsing outward multiple lava plumes flare out of the ground towards the Manectric.

matias catches the bag of gummy bewears.[break][break]

the layout of the furniture store is quickly utilized as manectric darts back around the corner, using the cover of the brightly-colored chairs to its advantage.[break][break]

with the LAVA PLUME avoided, manectric appears out from another corner to shoot the same SHADOW BOLT at the flareon.[break][break]

hopefully, mint will soon realize that the attack isn't electric-typed at all. the manectric, unfortunately, is SHADOW-TOUCHED.[break][break]

His Flareon is shoved backwards against another SHADOW BOLT and decides to take cover herself, rolling on the ground and darting to an over turned desk before letting out a cloud of SMOG. Even if she couldn't see it, maybe she could still snuff him out. [break][break]

Mint meanwhile does his best to remember if he even had anything to counter it. The more he thought about it, the more that seemed like a SHADOW move his boss could give out. But he didn't exactly have a trained ILLUMINA pokemon to cover. For now at least.

The move is risky, he knows that from the jump. Even swapping types can't buffer Arrabiata from the recoil. And although she lands, while trying to get off she's caught in Matias' ambush. [break][break]

A huge lightning bolt crashes and the sound echoes in the chamber. She's standing, electricity sparking over her body, and fur puffing up more than usual. Panting, she attempts one last BITE going for the Manectric's neck before it did worse to her still breathing body.

They hit a stalemate. Or well, if it could be called something like that. His Flareon can't continue, that much is evident. Especially when his opponent more or less orders him to back down. Mint returns the Flareon. [break][break]

He tosses out his second pokeball, letting out a shiny Feraligatr that takes a second to look around their surroundings before turning to Mint to inquire 'Really?'. Mint only shrugs before adding, "C'mon it's fun!" he said as the Feraligatr began lookin at the furniture around, some of which had already been shoved and tossed from the previous bout. Spritz moves past a set of potted plants as Mint shouted MUD SLAP, only for the gator to pick up the pots and roughly smack them towards the Manectric trying to get the soil out.

it isn't so much a stalemate as it is mercy. the shadow-afflicated manectric would not have known to back down otherwise, its nature making it far more aggressive than it needs to be for this challenge. in war, however, it is welcome and even expected.[break][break]

blinded by the MUD SLAP, manectric frantically blinks and paws at its own eyes, involuntarily MIMICKING the attack to send MUD SLAP right back at the feraligatr.[break][break]
