Watching the shoreline, he was sure there were points that intersected between both groups, but those parts were the most important to be fighting over, there was a fight to be had here after all.

Kouji kicked up sand with his boots, a spray that was followed by another and another, it was the only thing to do other than to keep his senses sharp, his eyes scanned the surroundings yet it was his ears that picked up the crunching of sound first.

His facemask was on, covering the lower half of his face but his golden eyes were peering out, watching the environment like a hawk, looking for the source of it. There was no real need to battle it out with everyone, no-one had that kind of strength. Thinking things through, he approached the individual that had set him.

”Hey, strange day to enjoy the beach, don’t ya think?” He said with a wry smile.

”Name’s Kouji, what’re you doing here, this island is off limits.”

it's a bit surprising that, in all the time, ollie hadn't yet met a rocket yet.

[break][break] then again, as head ranger, he'd been set on provisions and supply duty. he had to make sure all the other rangers were doing their due diligence — the frontlines were better left to the big guns, like MATIAS SILPH or Greyson Connors.

[break][break] rock crunched under foot as he observed the beach, watching as jellybean soars out ahead of him. the togekiss' wings reflect in the ocean's light as she scours the area, and ollie starts as a voice speaks ahead of him.

[break][break] huh?

[break][break] the masked individual is not one that he recognizes, but ollie knows that sometimes leaguers liked to put masks on for their own security too. Gunner Graves came to mind, after all.

[break][break] "hey!"

[break][break] his brow furrows as the other mentions the beach being off-limits. maybe one of Navy's guys?

[break][break] "oh. don't worry! i've got clearance to be here. i'm ollie morales!" he offers a hand out for the other to shake.

”Guess that’s fine then, you don’t look like a rookie anyway.” He said as he took the man’s hand and gave it a firm shake. It was paired with a curt nod before he turned around to look over the shore.

”It’s too nice a day to be playing at war, I sure could enjoy a nice drink, a sunchair, and a day out on the beach.” He said as he released the man’s hand and stretched out. He allowed a hint of a smile onto his face before he turned on his feet.

”Well, I don’t mind a good brawl either. Gonna kick ‘em guys back to the sea.” There was always an issue or two when it came to being on watch, so many little things to keep track of.

”Something like that, I’m more offensive focused than just a trainer though.” He said as he cracked his neck both ways, his sis? Morales? There was no way, was there?

”Who’s your sister?” He said as he looked back over the shore. ”She stuck tryna figure out a way into this dumb island.” As he finished, he gave a long sigh. ”Creepy place really, not only dream mist, but there’s even some super rare pokemon in there.” A shrug.

”I don’t envy ‘em.”

Wait, did he say he was the rangers? Kouji gave a freeze before he began to nod slowly as the dots began to connect in his head, Ollie Morales, wasn’t that the name of a head ranger? This was a big target.

[break][break] despite no longer sharing the same blond hair that the morales were so often known for, both he and eva still shared the same viridescent gaze, the one inherited by their mother.

[break][break] ollie's expression turns dark at the mention of the dream mist. he sighs empathetically. "yeah. word has it that the heatran obstacle's got them tied up too."

Kouji had been right about it, but he had to do his best to not let it show on his face, fighting Eva Morales had been an eye opening experience, but at the same time it wasn’t something he wanted to dwell on, even if their world views couldn’t be more different.

”The Heatran huh, yeah, those guys are way too tough. Wonder what made them show up.” No new info huh, might as well dig a little bit deeper.

Kouji ran a hand through his hair as he stood there, staring at the pokemon and then back at Ollie, it was a difficult choice but he sighed. He really did enjoy that short little conversation, but the battle would come in the end. ”Well, guess we’ve both gotta do our jobs, huh?”

The pokemon he brought out was Samurott, always a good start to have in a fight. ”So what, you got a special reason for fighting ‘ere?” He said as he patted the top of Samurott’s head before he ordered the pokemon to attack. ”Route 1.”

An Aqua Jet aimed at the Orbeetle, water surged up from Samurott’s feet before jumping up and swirling around him in a tight mesh, before he was propelled at jet-like speeds.

Kouji wondered what that was, he couldn’t really think in that angle, but then again…

He knew they weren’t the good guys. Rocket couldn’t be the good guys, but at the same time, was the league better?

”What’s right huh? What do you think is right in the first place?” He wondered, maybe this conversation would answer some things for him. It wasn’t a matter of good and evil.

It was the same as Samurott, being struck hard by the Bug Buzz, the incessant sound was enough to make Kouji cover his ears for a moment as it struck against his Dark Type, blasting him backwards a few feet before he came to a skidding stop. ”Route CS” He said to his pokemon who dashed back forward.

Ceaseless Edge, the horn on its head began to glow brightly as he went to slash onto the bug before scattering those same energies as shards, it was a move he’d grown fond of, bringing to mind a different region, and a different face.

[break][break] the CEASELESS EDGE cuts sharply, slicing through the bug at the same moment that ollie's voice cried out.

[break][break] the bug is splintered into pieces upon sheer impact. ollie's eyes widened, as his fingers grappeled at his belt to replace him.

[break][break] his DRAGONITE appeared, surrounded by white energy. suddenly, a DRAGON TERA crystal appeared on it's head as it attempted to zigzag a THUNDER WAVE towards Kouji Matsubara and his pokemon.

”I was born into it I guess? Been training for it my whole life, been around it the whole time. You just start to love something after a while.” He said as he ran a hand through his hair as the battle grew more intense.

The thunderwave struck with some force, stopping the Samurott in place as it shielded its trainer from the worst of the harm. Paralyzation, it was a terrible affliction that was underestimated, but for a pokemon like Samurott, it was debilitating. ”Damn it, come back.” It wouldn’t be able to move for a while, so he went for Tyranitar instead, the pokemon he knew he could count on.

”You’re pretty strong, Terastalization huh? Tyranitar, don’t get left behind.” The pokemon followed its trainer as it transformed, turning into a Dragon type as sand started to kick up around them, a sandstorm.

”Rock Slide.” And that sand coalesced into bigger and bigger rocks before they were thrown forward, Kouji wondered.

”You might throw your life away for the right thing, y’know? You sure you want to do that.”
