She was to stay at altitude, simply report what she saw unless she was attacked herself. The directive was clear, coming down from high brass. Freya needed her to stay safe. Navy needed her to stay safe.[break][break]

She'd entertain that thought. [break][break]

There wasn't doubt in her mind that the moment she faced any real resistance, all bets were off. She wasn't gonna pull punches. She'd seen what they did to Kanto, she remembered what they made her do. This was as personal as anything else. She just needed a reason.[break][break]

"Can't see shit up here," she finally determined, patting Botan's head like he were a Growlithe.[break][break]

The wind rider sailing the sea breeze grumbled quietly in agreement, holding back curses. Only she was able to treat him like a pet. By any sense, he was a violent and vengeful spirit of the forest, but submitting to Tsubaki's whims again and again like she were a spoiled daughter, he tolerated her transgressions. So long as he was able to see her happy, he could put up with anything.[break][break]

And so he shifted the fans they sailed on ever so slightly, dropping in altitude just below a big, fluffy cloud. They were slightly more vulnerable there, but Tsubaki was able to scan the seas below more easily. [break][break]

As Lugia rests her wings in the deep, Cillian soars atop a prehistoric predator whose rocky hide gleams with obsidian crystals. From afar, the beast almost resembles a Mega Aerodactyl, but closer inspection reveals it to be the wrong size.[break][break]

SHADOW MIASMA wreathes man and mount in a smoky haze, distorting their silhouette against the clouds.[break][break]

But they are not trying to hide.[break][break]

The Aerodactyl lets out a terrifying ROAR of challenge, looking to force the woman's mount back into its ball.

He flaps his fans wildly in an attempt to flee, sending a whirlwind in the direction of the Aerodactyl's cry. Even so, he cuts his losses, dissipating into a flash of light and returning to his ball, letting Tsubaki fend for herself.[break][break]

"... Tsutsu!!"[break][break]

She falls only a short distance, a screech that tears through the sky accompanying the arrival of her trusted Noivern beneath her. It turns upward, carrying a fierce look in its eyes as it drags her skyward to find whoever made her fall, filled with a rage that could only befit a dragon.[break][break]

Cillian curses low as his own tactics are quickly turned against him, the WHIRLWIND forcing his mount back to its ball in a swirl of SHADOW MIASMA.[break][break]

He falls several feet before his GENESECT emerges in turn, impacting hard against its metal carapace as the Pokemon folds itself into FLIGHT MODE. Adrenaline dulls the pain, and Cillian is quick to command the construct. "Web!"[break][break]

Genesect fires an ELECTROWEB toward its draconic opponent, and Cillian pulls an ICE MEMORY from his bag to slot into the Pokemon's drive. It clicks and whirrs as the cannon on its back shifts to a blue-white tint.[break][break]

In the dark she would be upon them before they could even see her. Fortunately, mercifully, she deigns to soar through the sky in the middle of the day. Her sleek, black scales glisten in the sunlight and mark her approach. [break][break]

Tsubaki straightens herself, standing on the dragon like she's riding a skateboard. [break][break]

There's no need to speak a command. Their senses, their very hearts, are one in the same. [break][break]

Like she is an extension of Tsubaki own body, the Noivern darts close and takes the brunt of the electric wave to spare her master harm, rushing through it to arrive right on top of the pair before they can take advantage of the loss in speed. [break][break]

A beat,[break][break]

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀and an explosive shockwave ripples through the sky, all of the Noivern's rage behind it. The strange flying insect has a steel hide to protect it, but as for the one riding it... he is subject to all the physics behind that terrible screech.[break][break]

Anything to win. He's a Rocket, after all.[break][break]

Cillian watches with narrowed eyes as the reckless girl rides her Pokemon like a surfboard. One wrong move or sudden attack, she'd be thrown off balance and plummet. He has no doubt the dragon would catch her, but why take such a risk?[break][break]

Of course, Cillian being an adrenaline junkie, it was a prime example of the pot judging the kettle.[break][break]

He's owned a Noivern before. Fought against them in battles. He knows what they can do. Thankfully, his Genesect's programming also recognizes the threat to its master. The constructs eyes flash before it throws up a PROTECTIVE shield, dampening the sound to cause nothing more than a mild ringing in Cillian's ears.[break][break]

Though saved from being deafened by the sonic blast, irritation still finds a way to settle in his gut. In protecting him, the Genesect had been unable to put a swift end to this pest.

The Noivern beneath her breathes in, and blue flames congeal in midair. Raw mastery of nature fitting only an apex predator, she is sheathed in the light of a comet and falls straight for the bright red vehicle in the sky.[break][break]

"Who the hell do you think you are, anyway!?"[break][break]

Her scream echoes above even the flames, putting her all in that single strike.[break][break]

He answers without hesitation. His name and face are on the news. He's infamous; Kanto criminal, Rocket underboss. Avatar of Lugia, and master of shadows like the MIASMA that swirls around him in an umbral haze.[break][break]

Genesect adjusts its flight path to endure the brunt of the impact against the strongest parts of its carapace, though a dent at the point of collision attests to the Noivern's strength. Still, the mechanical bug persists.

At close range, now, it opens its cannon and fires a point-blank TECHNO BLAST.[break][break]

A crunching, splintering noise, like stepping on a frozen pond, precedes the barrage of frigid ice and energy that explodes from the cannon.

She knows that name well. It's a name she hoped she'd never have to deal with personally. When she counted herself among the ranks of Rocket she had heard it plenty. A name synonymous with ruthlessness, a name that she hoped she might evade after her defection if only for the stories of what he'd do to those who tried to escape.[break][break]

"... Fuck."[break][break]

It's all he needs to create an opening.[break][break]

The Techno Blast hits her Noivern head-on. She feels the weight of ice pulling them down to earth, the crackling of ice as it forms between her dragon's sleek, black scales. It's the best possible offense against her. [break][break]

"Tsutsu!"[break][break]

Tsubaki's mind snaps back to the battle. It doesn't matter who this is. All that matters is winning at any cost, cause a loss would mean--[break][break]

"... Tear him off that thing if it's the last thing you do!"[break][break]

As her Noivern plummets, she tosses two balls into the air. A Crobat and a Gliscor emerge in bursts of light, circling toward the Genesect as Tsubaki corrects her balance. Her Noivern shivers herself awake, beating her wings wildly to stall her descent and letting out a cry that clears the clouds from the skies with a violent shockwave.[break][break]

The two pokemon don't waste any time, Gliscor approaching with aerial acrobatics and lashing out with pincers and a barbed tail, while Crobat sends out a supersonic signal meant to jam the robot's subroutines.[break][break]

Though her Noivern takes the blast head on, both dragon and girl cling stubbornly to life and, most frustrating of all, determination. She does not attempt a retreat, instead sending further foes against him.[break][break]

"Defend."[break][break]

Genesect PROTECTS itself from the SUPERSONIC blast, the ACROBATIC Gliscor glancing harmlessly off its carapace.[break][break]

Cillian matches her offence with his own. The same Aerodactyl from earlier emerges in a burst of swirling shadow, immediately firing a HYPER BEAM toward the ailing Noivern. A LEVITATING Eelektross COILS in preparation for battle.[break][break]

Aerodactyl's PRESSURE prevents nearby Pokémon from using the same move twice in a row.[break][break]

Using the move COIL grants Eelektross the effects of INFILTRATOR + MOLD BREAKER for the next attack. This next attack cannot be used in the same post that Eelektross used COIL.

Only for her superior speed, anticipating the breath that accompanies a strike, does Tsutsuji turn upward quick enough to spill Tsubaki off her back before the beam connects.[break][break]

"Tsutsuji!!"[break][break]

Obsidian scales reflect the majority of the heat. The dragon crumples in midair and falls freely alongside her trainer, who scrambles for her belt, searching for an adequate pokemon to replace her mount before she hits the sea thousands of feet below.[break][break]

Asa flaps her wings in frustration, noting her ineffective technique. She turns and locks eyes with Sayuri, snapping her pincers in rage at seeing her master stricken from the sky. The trust between them is like a spark, lighting an explosion to come. [break][break]

Needles of toxic, hardened crobat fur fly toward the gliscor in a flurry, and the scorpion empowers her body with the poison's essence before she ducks and aims a punch right at the Aerodactyl's vulnerable belly, hard enough to crush rock.[break][break]

In the wake of the HYPER BEAM, the prehistoric predator is at its most vulnerable. It cannot utilize its AGILITY without pushing past limits that would break any ordinary Pokémon; even capable of such a feat, the shadow obeys the clicks of its master's tongue. It does not seek to escape the incoming blow.[break][break]

Though its rocky hide and the obsidian growths that protected it manage to mitigate some of the blow, the empowered strike still drives the breath from the Aerodactyl's lungs. It's sent back several feet from the force, cracked wings struggling to hold its weight in the air. Not dead, but in no state to continue battling.[break][break]

Cillian recalls it, shadows swallowing its faltering form.[break][break]

The others will finish the job it had started.[break][break]

Genesect's cannon spins up and opens anew, a second TECHNO BLAST aimed for the Gliscor. Hissing, the Eelektross spits GASTRIC ACID toward that same foe, hoping to nullify the poison's boon.

Tsubaki growls with anger, watching helplessly as her pokemon are picked off one by one by this menace. His demeanor irks her more than anything. Usually Rockets are either too shy to take lives and take shame in it, or they're straight up gleeful about it. She's seen countless Rockets in her tenure as a member from Kanto, but this is something else. This guy's just all-business, and it's different enough to the usual Rocket that it pisses her off![break][break]

She recalls her Gliscor to its ball, frantically searching for another pokemon on her hip. She finds it in the rude forest spirit she was riding on initially. The Shiftry lets out a snarl of impatience as he returns to the field beneath her, stopping her fall and searching the skies before he finds their target.[break][break]

"Botan. We can't leave Asa on her own. Get us close, will ya?"[break][break]

The Shiftry complies, one with the winds. He flaps his enormous fans and with a leaf tornado a column of air brings them to a near-equal altitude with the red machine and its trainer, wicked edges of leaves clipping at the opposing pokemon. Asa flaps her wings once, creating a tailwind for the Shiftry to ride on, before she circles back and reunites with Tsubaki.[break][break]

"Just what the hell is that thing...?"[break][break]

Tsubaki stares down the red machine, more like a monster with every moment in battle.[break][break]

Fortunately for Rocket's thalassaphobic underboss, the Guardian of the Sea was on his side.[break][break]

PRESSURE floods the skies as Lugia bends the sea to her command, drawing forth an enormous WHIRPOOL to give her free-falling avatar time to pull into a dive. Though dormant in the absence of its linked Pokemon and to allow his Avatar powers to function, the material of Cillian's SYGNA SUIT protects him from the shock of cold water as he plunges into the depths.[break][break]

Little more to Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki than an umbral silhouette beneath the waves, the Lugia's focus remained upon the safety of her chosen... but it would not do so for long. Two red pinpricks gleam from the deep as the shadowed Guardian acknowledges their foe.[break][break]

If they wished to escape her wrath, they'd need to act fast.
