She'd been happy to see Greyson pick-up and leave from here once he'd left being a Gym Leader, but that didn't stop him from still occasionally visiting to her distaste.[break][break] She took off from his shoulder and made for higher ground, the trainer cursing as she sped away. He could do little but follow after her, sighing in indignation.

Sweeping downwards, Tidbit saw a nice spot to land. It was ash covered, but so too was much of the ground around here. When she'd landed, the Swellow immediately went to work in pruning herself of this filth.

So, imagine her surprise when the mound she'd landed on began to move. She shrilled in fright and pushed off once more, gaining a few feet of altitude before she looked down.

Fallarbor wasn’t Lam’s typical haunt. Even when he was out toward this direction of the region before his move to Lilycove, the town wasn’t exactly where he tended to find himself. Maybe that’s why he was there that day—stepping away from challenges for an idea of some of the other old gym locales.[break][break]
Except, of course, he’d been sidetracked from that because he’d somehow managed to lose his cat.[break][break]
Clove wasn’t typically the sort to wander off on her own, or stray far from her trainer’s heels. Maybe it was the naughtiness of Lam’s shinx rubbing off on her.[break][break]
Maybe it was the scent of some enticing treat wafting from the market area that drew her away.
Whatever the case, the sprigatito found herself on her lonesome, and failing to shake bits of ash from her fur at that. For a moment, the little green cat attempted to fastidiously wash behind her ears, but the taste of ash soon had her tail fluffing in displeasure.[break][break]
And that was before something heavy and taloned landed on her back—decidedly squashing her. In her surprise, a burst of magical leaves swarmed up around Clove to dislodge her captor.

[attr="class","char-words"]magical leaves score the swellow and her feathers ruffle beneath the attack. Tidbit squacks, voice shrill and small as indignation fills her. This.. creature? This WILD POKEMON had attacked her. Baselessly.

Anger fills her small form and she flaps her now ruffled wings ripping forth an air slash at the grass-type.

Greyson arrives on the scene just as the attack begins, eyes wide.

It was only a reaction of surprise. She didn’t mean to hurt the swellow…Clove just, thought she was maybe about to be a tasty snack. As the leaves dispel, the bird’s indignant cry is nearly as intimidating as an actual bird of prey’s.[break][break]
You know, the sort that actually scoop up little unsuspecting pokemon rather than the songbird she is actually facing.[break][break]
Clove is far too docile to handle the turned attack with bravery. She’s a sweet, gentle little thing, and so the AIR SLASH sends her tumbling back with frighten mews before she darts behind the familiarity of Lam’s shoes as he, too, finally arrives on the scene.[break][break]
“Woah,” his arms lift in front of his head as the wind whips by, the remnants of the attack blowing his hair back and ruffling his clothes. “You messed with the wrong bird, pipsqueak.”[break][break]
He scoops up the small feline, prepared to book it away from the supremely pissed swellow—much as he’d like to stay and study her, because, let’s be real: if there’s a bird, Lam wants to observe it. Particularly this one with its emerald feathering as opposed to the typical midnight blue hues. He pauses, though, when he spies the familiar face just beyond.[break][break]
“Oh, ‘sup dude. This your swellow?”

“She’s pretty,” he says simply as he appraises the emerald glint of the swellow’s feathers. His tone glides right over the chiding that Greyson takes with Tidbit. Unbothered as he soothes Clove by running his fingers over the fur between her ears.[break][break]
Lam shakes his head after a quick look over of the sprigatito. “Nah, nothing bad. I think she must’ve just been startled.”[break][break]
True enough, the little cat’s tail is still puffed out to bottle brush levels as she peers across the short distance at Greyson and his swellow.[break][break]
“She’s always been a bit on the shyer side, so I doubt she meant any harm.”

His grip loosens, testing her limits, and finds her behaving — for now.

"I've always been curious about those Pokemon though. They're.. magicians, right?" Slowly but surely, an idea forms.

But at least the conflict seems to be over.[break][break]
Even the sprigatito senses it, and she cowers less in the cradle of his arms.[break][break]
Clove mrrps, head popping up to peer at Greyson as Lam nods. “Yep! Well, I think so. She’s still lil so I’m not sure that she’s got as much of the capability as the more evolved stages.”[break][break]
When not reacting out of surprise, the sprigatito stirs up MAGICAL LEAVES again that twirl up into the air in a shimmery tangle. “This is about as much as she’s got right now.”

Because that’s what Clove is— a cutie patootie.[break][break]
With Clove safely tucked into one arm, he holds out the opposite in offering for the swellow to perch on should she choose to. There are scratches under the beak in her future, if so.[break][break]

“You hear that? You’ll be a nightmare,” he says down to the sprigatito, who only chirps happily. Kinda hard to imagine her, with her gentle little nature, to be a dominating force in battle.[break][break]

Curious, she untangles herself and hops down from Lam’s arm. Then trots up to Greyson in greeting— wide, rosy eyes blinking up at him. Her fluffy tail swishes quietly behind her. Expectant. “Yeah, maybe she will,” Lam says after a beat, “if she ever outgrows being held like a baby.”

"That'd be quite a sight, admittedly, you carrying her around at max evolution." He laughs, pressing his phone back into his pocket. "Bring her by sometime once she evolves. My Delphox can probably teach her a thing.. or a six."

He whistles, capturing the birds attention and makes a 'come hither' motion. The bird hesitantly obeys.

"Duty calls, but, it was good seeing you man. Sorry again about the mess. Let me know if you need anything!"

With a grin and a two-fingered wave, Greyson jogs off to answer the call.
