A tunnel entrances collapses before him. Angry HEATRAN blocking it by smashing against the rock repeatedly and shooting fire and rocks at him, A majority of them seem to make it, but Neon is trapped outside. He's relegated to finding another way in or doing something else useful. The grunts inside should be fine. There was an executive or two that knew the plan. Be a nuisance. And really, that's the simplest thing you could tell a Rocket to do and they'd do it well. [break][break]

So he moves back into the shadows, LED helmet going dark as he moves purposefully, slowly, sticking to the shadows and whatever cover he could find. He hears talking, briefly. A voice? Maybe two? It's not Rocket. Nobody's relayed a location near him in a while. [break][break]

He peers over a short, rocky cliff face, eyes on the sky as he hopes a random flying type doesn't crash onto him. Rangers? No, officers? He squinted, tapping something on his helmet to see if he could magnify what he's looking at. [break][break]

Gears turn in his head. "Delta, if we wanna link back up quickly, we need intel." he murmured, looking up at his Duosion as the jelly creature hovered near him. "Wait for the next big headed officer to come through, drop them. Maybe someone's carrying coordinates of their friends." If anything else, it'd be a good place to hit with his own team. They seem to agree and so, the psychic type moves forward, floating as easily as a balloon and sends out a wave of CONFUSION as the poor fool unlucky enough to walk under the rocks they'd been hiding in.

When at last they break through, he’s one of the first ones to rush inside. That’s his role, as he understands it. If they win, they’ll say he’s a vanguard. If they lose, history will remember him as a glorified canary – a creature meant to die so others can know it’s time to run away. The canary finds the path forward blocked. Separated from his fellows, he radios them on the comms and receives no answer.[break][break]
“Archivald, we’ll get you back out when we meet up with everyone else.” He says, storing the owl’s pokeball next to some orders he was given at the beginning of the operation. On it is a list of high value personnel on location today. That list, as well as the names omitted from that list, is worth its weight in gold.[break][break]
“Shuwen, you’re with me. Any Heatran show up, you know what to do.” His bear, already marked by burns after a venture alongside AQUA last month, nods. The two of them venture off the beaten path, through rubble, along pathways that will hopefully lead them back to the main strike squad.[break][break]
Instead, it leads them into an ambush. A trickle of blood escapes Shuwen’s ear. Before he loses himself to confusion, the bear rights himself with a slap.[break][break]
“…Rocket. Gotta be.” The sheriff mutters. But, just in case they’re not, he does something stupid.[break][break]
“Just in case that was friendly fire, I’m with the League. If you’re Rocket, run away. We don’t gotta fight unless you wanna.” Shuwen looks up. While his trainer plays at honor, he punches the solid stone above their heads. Sweeping the human up in his arms, he dives out of the way as it inevitably collapses. They do not call Urshifu the mightiest of the fighting types idly.

Delta 2.0 can see the Urshifu and chitters easily, bobbing over while he floats idly over the pair, getting eyes on the pair as behind him the rock face crumbles under the power of the tall bear. "Delta?!" comes a distorted yelp as the beast loses his foothold. His eyes drop to the massive bear and the LED smile turns into a frown. [break][break]

"Ugh rude!" he shouted as he dropped. His partner then comes in, being recalled by his yelping and zooms to him. Neon managed to slow his fall just a smidge with the Duosion help. He drops, smashing one foot on the Urshifu's head as a make shift foot hold before dropping the last 6 ft and landing on dirt and rock. [break][break]

As the dust settled and he lets out a small hiss, Neon backs away from the bear. "Whoa there Poo Bear. I might still have some honey on me." he teased, strangely robotic. The helmet back to grinning at Delta gathers himself and uses a sudden HEAL BLOCK while his train moves away from the fighting type. [break][break]

"And you-" he turns his attention to Navy after giving the immediate area a quick scan. "Who say I'm not up for fighting?" he holds his fists in front of himself, taking a loose stance. Delta 2.0 lets out a trill, bobbing over the Urshifu and setting himself between it and his trainer. [break][break]

"C'mon, it's high noon or whatever." He says it so casually, but then takes off in a sprinting straight for Navy ready to engage.

He recognizes the mask from the League’s efforts to build profiles on masked Rockets. This guy always seemed so dangerous whenever Navy heard about him.[break][break]
But the way he talks…[break][break]
It’s so cavalier. Navy has a hard time imagining the person under the mask being older than twenty. Drinking age tops. The masked Rocket rushes him with a younger man’s energy, too. Navy falls into a fighting stance, a mirror of the one assumed by Shuwen. If nothing else, he’ll admire the kid’s moxie. The world needs more spirit.[break][break]
“You like westerns too, huh?” He manages to smile. This one’s more fun than Zev Harcourt, another of the masked Rockets. “Alright. I’ll be your huckleberry.”[break][break]
Rushing towards the Rocket, he gives him a jab to the chest as an opening Salvo.[break][break]
Similarly, Shuwen means business. He’s the first to run in on their theater of this battle. Bringing forth all the might of a legendary fighter, he bellows another war cry.[break][break]
“ORAAAAAAA!” One blow turns into three. Surging Strikes mark him as an Urshifu of the Rapid Strike school. His spirit is tuned to the flow of water. His strikes are smooth, one leading into the next as he tries to put the psychic type Delta 2.0 on the backfoot. Even an unevolved Pokemon can prove dangerous if underestimated.[break][break]
Shuwen gives Delta 2.0 the respect it is due, going all out from the very start.

"Dated a cowboy once," he said with a laugh as he closed in. He doesn't have time to stop and rear back as the jab comes, instead hissing as he feels contact on his sternum, which by this point was starting to get pretty bruised after all his fights. But he stays on his feet, swallowing the hurt and moving to the side lest he wanted to get run over. "Where'd y'get the Pooh Bear?" [break][break]

What he holds in height, he isn't sure if he can match with grace though. He stays low and alert, holding up a arm to protect his head from Navy's possible back swing and aiming to smash his gloves fist into ribs. [break][break]

Meanwhile, Delta 2.0 yelps, at each hit. Like a punching bag, the fists land on its gelatinous body and while it's form molds against the incoming fists to cushion form the blows it's still pushed back. But he stops himself from getting cornered, pulsing out another CONFUSION to put distance between himself and Shuwen.

“He came to me in a dream—fuh!” The blow takes him in the ribs. Having grown up rough, one hit isn’t enough to put him down. Even with all the accumulated fatigue of the day, he holds steady. Considering all they’ve been through, he wonders how much fuel they both have left in the tank.[break][break]
“Dunno if he’s from there or just happened to be in the neighborhood.” Navy’s not a scientist. His job is to fight. Details and postmortems are for better men. In there here and now, he acts. Others will dissect those actions, but he doesn’t spare them a thought.[break][break]
More forward jabs shoot towards the smaller man. These are high, meant to hit him in the head. Navy is a creature meant for offense. His strikes are reckless, overreaching, forward power that leaves him exposed to the inevitable counterattack.[break][break]
“You sure you’re old enough to be doing all this?”[break][break]
Shuwen, meanwhile, is hit by another blow he has no means to counter. How does one deflect, parry, or otherwise sidestep a blast of psychic power directly to his head? It leaves him dazed. Gripping a loose bit of rock close by, Shuwen rubs his forehead with his spare him. Infinity energy surges around the great bear.[break][break]
Against a foe that seems to be his natural enemy, he must go all out.

"Huh? The dream mist?!" Neon asked, quickly taking a guess. His own pokemon had popped out of the pink mist, and well- Carbonara was brand new, despite her ancient appearance. There'd been no trace of Slither Wings anywhere in ancient Unova. He and GIDEON GRAVES had checked thoroughly enough. [break][break]

Briefly he wonders if Navy is lying, then decides cowboys are too stupid to lie well. [break][break]

Navy hits the side of his helmet. Partially anyway as Mint raises and arm to try to deflect some of the force before he ended up with his ears ringing. A grunt of effort is made as he stumbles before trying to get out of the way of the barrage. [break][break]

Though, perhaps most would stay in range. He goes in quick, barely side stepping before darting down low and moving closer into his opponent. Strength isn't his forte, and Neon didn't want to find out how many punches his bones could take before they break. One hand reaches out, grabbing Navy's outstretched arm by the elbow for leverage, and he uses the forward momentum to power through with a lifted knee aimed at Navy's stomach. [break][break]

"Ok, Boomer-" he hisses with effort. It's as clever as he can afford to be right now. [break][break]

As Shuwen stumbles, Delta 2.0 gets an idea. Part of them begin to glow softly, slowly at first. Alternatively colors that pick up speed before blasting outwards in a colorful SIGNAL BEAM at the towering bear.

“Pwah--!” That is the extent of verbal communication the Sheriff can give in the aftermath of the blow. It knocks the air right out of him. Yet he doesn’t show shock, he doesn’t recoil, he doesn’t stumble all that much. He’s taken hits since he was a kid. He’s been punched by street thugs, his own father, Rockets. Navy is a man defined by battle, try as he did for so long to deny that about himself.[break][break]
So, when he’s kicked, his instinct is to grin. It’s a signal that he can cut loose a little. His opponent knows how to fight. Whoever they are beneath the mask, damn if they don’t seem to be good at it. The way they locked his arm in place is a work of art. Thankfully, he has two arms.[break][break]
The other levels a haymaker Neon’s way. It sails through the air, aimed right for his chest.[break][break]
“The hell’s a boomer?” He manages as air fills his lungs once more.[break][break]
Their fight is a technicolor affair thanks to Delta 2.0’s signal beam. It strikes Shuwen, but the bear barrels through. It strikes him head on. There is no attempt made to dodge or deflect. Like the trainer he reflects, Shuwen knows how to take a hit. He knows how to give as good as he gets.[break][break]

A secret technique of the rapid strike school. for a brief period of time, all offensive moves hit 3 times, but the follow-up attacks are weaker.

"The fact that you even a-" Neon began before a grunt and a wheeze both come out from under the thick helmet. He tries to angle his arm or shoulder for extra cushion but he's a little slower, locked in close. The pain in his sternum makes him feel sick, feeling something race down to his abdomen as he steadied himself. [break][break]

Navy inhales, and Neon exhales. Push through it, he repeats in his head but it's so much harder than it sounds. [break][break]

He lets go, the throw he's thinking off too much effort. He doesn't want another haymaker. Not so quick after the last one, gods. [break][break]

As their trainer prepares to strike back, Delta 2.0 takes it upon themselves to stave off the fighting bear. A SHADOWBALL is prepared, weakly attempting to intercept the Z-move. But it's no use. The power of the attack dissipates, leaving the Duosion defenseless as fists faster than it can register slam against it's gelatinous body and weakens the integrity of its jello. [break][break]

At some point, the Duosion explodes, and the bits left fall and are washed away with a scream and the sound of water crashing and flowing. [break][break]

Neon barely registers trying to move in faster than Navy can rear back despite the painful wheezing and static he was producing. Definitely a bruise for tomorrow to ice off. [break][break]

He steps in again, ignoring his protesting sternum. Fists up he aims near his hip, stepping into the motion before aiming a punch at his face. Except- well- its more at his chin. He's not risking jumping up to get this guy, already imagining the easy enough slam back down. [break][break]

Besides, he's running out of time. This asshole had information right? It's gotta be somewhere. And if he had to balance a rabid bear, brain damage, and coping a feel to get it then by the gods he would. What other option did he have?

Shuwen’s expression grows grim. Death was not his intention. Though the bear is not linked to the sheriff by a sync stone, they understand one another. Shuwen relishes killing no more than Navy does. Death is final. Once a human or Pokemon reaches the clearing at the end of the path, there can be no more changes. No redemption or fresh triumph. They simply are as they were.[break][break]
He looks to his fist. It trembles, and not in triumph. Kneeling, he whispers quiet words, unheard by the humans. It almost sounds like an apology for the dead.[break][break]
Navy has his own battle. The human attacking him is vicious as any Kommo-O he’s ever met. Small though he is, he’s relentless. Were they playing for stakes less serious, he thinks he could enjoy fighting this guy. They’d come away bruised, but he’d be smiling. That’s the sort of madman Neon faces.[break][break]
Neon’s prize waits for him under a red scarf, next to a burning heart. No mere hyperbole, kyle lopez’s sacred ash has set the sheriff’s heart on fire. Though there is heat, it does not burn Neon’s hand or Navy’s clothes. Close by is the slip of paper he’s meant to guard – a valuable list, not for Rocket’s eyes.[break][break]
Navy doesn’t notice if it’s taken. He’s too busy wrangling with Neon, giving him another flurry of blows in fair retort for the jaw shot. He tastes blood in his mouth. His fist is a symphony of whistling air, muscles working into repetition reminiscent of pistons.[break][break]
“Come on, kid.” Navy says, making sure the blood he spits out doesn’t get on Neon’s clothes. “You can do better than that.”

As he gets into close quarters once more, he's mildly put off not by the lack of reaction, but by the warmth he can feel when his fists close in on Navy's torso. It doesn't hurt but it's enough to cause concern. It's not natural. The expression on his helmet flickers and he swaps through various types of vision running a quick scan over Navy's body. Something's not right with this guy. And he's not sure how dangerous it is. Another variable to contend with. [break][break]

He should investigate though. His fist had come up empty at the hip. Somewhere else. Somewhere- anywhere fast. Neon's jaw clenches tight as he huffs loudly, dull pain pulsing as he tries to block the man's response. Where Navy might've found these types of spars fun, Neon found them tedious. [break][break]

It's a war of attrition, and one he intends to end before he can run out of energy. Not to mention, despite all his efforts in bettering his combat skills....his pain tolerance was obscenely low. [break][break]

In any case, he's not about to continue boxing a cowboy. Not when he seemed to enjoy it. So he does his best to block, sidestepping to dodge the flurry of blows heading his way. Circling Navy, he aims to smash one of his heels into the side of Navy's knee before lunging at his scarf. Fingers go for well worn threads as he rips his hand back and snatches his well earned reward: paper. [break][break]

Paper he can't read right now, and can only catch a glimpse. It's not thin enough to be a photograph and its folded pretty tightly and securely. Probably important. Hopefully important. He doesn't have time to verify. [break][break]

"Letters to home, Huckleberry?" he asked, releasing the scarf and drooping a hand to his belt to slap a pokeball open and release one more pokemon. A glaring Hitmontop that spins on the ground ready to take over watching Neon's six. He TERA TYPES into a FIGHTING TYPE, getting ready to push back any threat. His main concern, of course, the large bear too close to his trainer.

“Give that—” Navy wishes he could give some quip, return fire. When his opponent’s about to throw out a Pokemon, he realizes he doesn’t have time. There’s no time to even pick what comes out. Shuwen remains still, looking at his hands. Navy knows what he’s going through without seeing the expression on the bear’s burned face.[break][break]
“Shuwen!” He tries to grab the bear’s attention while Buff, his Bouffalant, appears in a flash of red. Flaring his pierced nose, the great big bull lowers his head. In the heat of battle, the thought that he isn’t helping shake off the cowboy image doesn’t occur to him. He’s busy going after the Rocket, trying to snatch back the paper from him. If that goes missing, Rocket gains valuable insight. They’ll know who was and wasn’t there at the beginning of the battle.[break][break]
Buff falls into a reckless head charge, rushing right for the Hitmontop. The fighter’s crown on his head doesn’t register as a threat. Like any bull, he simply sees red and charges.

“Struck a nerve, hay muncher?” He asked. The expression on his mask mirroring his own amusement. Maybe he's hit gold, and Navy had confirmed it. Or maybe it's old instincts of a shitty little brother rising through the seams of Neon's persona. [break][break]

He ducks away from Navy's hand, letting go of the scarf and sliding the info into a back pocket on his pants. Though, the angry bull's appearance gives him a start. “Whoa, I ain't no torero-!” He's already moving to the side even as his partner and it begin to clash. [break][break]

Neon is over it. He had enough. “Adios, cabron.” He takes off running as his Hitmontop rears back in anticipation for the Bouffalant. Glowing with power, the fighting type waits in anticipation before initiating a DOUBLE KICK. He slams his foot upwards Sending the Bouffalant up with the force before letting it fall and smacking it up and away again. Neon doesn't look back. He knows what's transpired after hearing a sickening crack. His Hitmontop rushes past the dying buffalo, chasing after his trainer and calling out a warning as dream mist began to swirl at their feet.
