Ultra Megalopolis - Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

A RUINED CITY IN ULTRA SPACE. It is unclear whether this is a different universe's Ultra Megalopolis or smaller colony. Regardless, it is a dark city with intermittent sections of flickering, artificial light... Large, black prism-like skyscrapers loom above flat black streets. Much ruin has fallen here, but you get the sense that you're not alone...

Hideo got to learn the hard way that staying a night here without a Sygna Suit was not a fun time; he didn't feel like he got any sleep that night, and he wasn't eager to repeat that.

Which was why this time, he made sure to bring his Sygna Suit, one part for the safety, another to show off his new clothes. His Beheeyem, who the suit was clearly based off of, gladly encouraged him to do so.

He wouldn't get to show off for long, though, for his Beheeyem directed him towards what seemed to be a stray box just lying around in a semi-secluded area. Like a proper gremlin, Hideo didn't waste any time investigating, opening the stray cache - and finding what felt like lightly-armored clothing.

"Weird," Hideo said, picking up a helmet. "Well, you guys see anyone else who is gonna wear these?" He doubted any would be in his size, but some extra protection wouldn't hurt?

one of the helmets appear small enough to fit his mankey. he picks it up and puts it on the fighting-type, giving it a good knock to test its sturdiness.

Another round in the unknown. Despite the chaotic and quite frightening nature of Lesser Megalopolis, Eva was growing a bit more confident in their adventures to the dark world. With the correct precautions, they would be just fine. She too donned her sygna suit as usual within the rifts.

“Very nice, Hideo!” she misled, playing off of CIAN MAHER’s compliment. The professor squatted next to box of recon gear, slowly pulling out what appears to be a suit, “Do you think it will help us blend in?” she wasn’t confident it would. They weren’t mindless zombies after all.

The outfits could, however, provide some extra protection, as demonstrated by Cian’s Mankey. Eva wiggled on a suit over her Sygna Suit and stretched to ensure it wasn’t restricting. In fact, it seemed to fit quite nicely . . . weird.

“You guys ready to get going?” she asked, queuing up a holomap of what they’ve documented of Lesser Megalopolis so far. There was a jarring empty area they have yet to venture close to but from a distance, it was easy to see it may be something like a network of canyons.

A Magearna clicked to life beside, their gears whirling in excitement to explore a rift other than their own.

The positive reception from CIAN MAHER and Eva Morales felt nice - but good feelings wouldn't be enough to make this equipment fit him any better; they were clearly made for adults, not for young teens. The best that fit was one of the helmets, but even that was large on him

Nothing here for kids or kid-sized human-shaped Pokemon, sadly.

"It's at least some protection," Hideo noted, doing his best to put on the oversized equipment. "Maybe those crazy megalopolans'll think we're one of them."

Equipment as well equipped as he could get, Hideo was ready to head off and explore - though his Beheeyem was quick to point out some artwork on the side of one of the buildings. Though his Beheeyem wasn't very good at describing art to him, it could still give him a basic description of what it was:

There were pictures of Ultra Beasts, next to what seemed to be people (probably Megalopolans); his Beheeyem could recognize the clown-like shape that they'd encountered last time, but the other one seemed much rounder, and had an extra pair of limbs.

The first set seemed to be a lot smaller than what they'd encountered, but an arrow pointed towards a similar image, with the Ultra Beasts now depicted much larger than before, the multi-limbed Beast now towering over the people while the clown was now slightly taller than them, just like the one they'd encountered.

"...is this trying to say they used to be smaller?" Hideo asked aloud. Perhaps the others could understand it better than he could secondhand.

[attr="class","cianmain"]after quickly slipping into one of the suits himself, cian turns and gives Eva Morales a thumbs up. his mankey follows suit, but tries to one up its trainer by giving two instead.

as they investigate one of the buildings, cian looks up and does his best to understand the artwork before reaching the same conclusion as Hideo Kino.

"yes, i believe so. they look to have been the same size as regular pokemon."

taking a step back proves deadly. his foot catches on something sticking out of the ground and the moment it does, the ground shifts, and from it erupts a GARGANTUAN GUZZLORD that swallows cian whole.

"—wah!"

Eva seemed to be in a similar boat to Hideo Kino. Her petite frame didn’t quite fill out the Megalopolan armor like it should have. Even the helmet was a bit big for her. The professor seemed unphased, perfection was never really her style, anyway.

“Here’s to hoping!” Eva agreed with a cheery smile that disappeared under the helmet she adjusted over her head. A few tufts of blonde hair curled out under the dark metal.

With everyone ready, they forged their path through the darkness, slipping through the shadows of abandoned buildings that stretched up towards the starry sky. The eerie silence of the empty weighed heavy on them, only broken by the subtle shuffle of their boots.

Eva stuck close to Hideo, peering over his shoulder at the depiction of Ultra Beasts scrawled against the wall. She flicked up the visor of her helmet to get a better look, squinting her emerald eyes against the shadows to see clearly.

“Fascinating,” she mumbled beneath her breath. CIAN MAHER confirmed their assumptions. Naturally, Eva couldn’t pass up the knowledge, and documented it with a snap of her RotomPhone, “Do you see any others?”

Eva’s gaze drifts along the sharp angles of their surroundings, allowing her to catch the sight of Cian being swallowed whole.

“CIAN!”

Eva lept back, narrowly avoiding the snapping pincher of the beast, “Magearna! IRON HEAD!” she pointed at the belly of the beast. The mechanical pokemon sprang forward, SHIFTING GEARS to accelerate her attack at the Guzzlord’s gut, aiming to force the Ultra Beast to vomit Cian back up.

"Can't say I've seen any others," Hideo answered Eva Morales , a wry smile on his face.

Joking aside, his Beheeyem wasn't telling him of anything that looked like drawings or words in the area besides the one they just looked over. "Gotta wonder if the Ultra Beasts popped in here like they do in our world, or if the Megalopolans had'em for a lot longer than we did."

Though now even Ultra Beasts were starting to be more common in Hoenn; he could still recall that one trainer he battled with a Buzzwole.

But joyful reminiscing couldn't last long; Hideo heard the ground shift behind him, his Beheeyem pushing him away from the unsteady ground - just in time for the source to pop up and gobble up CIAN MAHER .

"Ah shit," Hideo muttered. "Elga, we gotta get him out!"

His Beheeyem was quick to tear a set of rocks out of the ground, each Rock Tomb launched at the Guzzlord's stomach, careful to avoid hitting Eva's Magearna in the process.

Unbeknownst to them, their battle was already starting to attract the attention of some other Ultra Beasts lurking about…

"shit, shit, shit—"

the attacks from the outside cause him to shake and move with the guzzlord. he bumps into the walls, fabric sizzling with each impact.

he finds the right pokeball to call out his type: null.

"get us out of here!"

type: null starts chipping away with X-SCISSOR.

The cogs of her mind roll in sync like the well-oiled Magearna beside her, “Hmmm, based on the implied evolution here,” she motions towards the beasts growing much larger, “I would wager that they’ve had them for much longer. Perhaps they even originated from here and some sort of trigger sparked them to grow to exponentially.”

Of course, as speculation would have to wait, because one of those beasts decided to gobble up their colleague.

Magearna’s IRON HEAD didn’t seem to disturb the beast at all. Magearna glanced off the titan like she was nothing but an annoying Cutiefly. The notion made Eva’s stomach drop.

“Shit,” she grumbled beneath her breath, catching it in a quick gasp as Magearna rebounded back to her side. Hideo Kino’s STONE EDGE chipped away the behemoth’s stomach. If she looked close enough, she could see the rippling of CIAN MAHER’s Type: Null working to free them from the inside.

“Stand back!” she glanced towards Magearna, giving the fairy-type a quick nod in approval. The pokemon’s gears whirled to life as she rose to level of the Guzzlord’s stomach, “Aim for the soft spot,” Eva’s voice carried over the roar of the Ultra Beast. She was too focused on getting Cian out of the pokemon’s gut to notice another lumbering towards them, “FLEUR CANNON!”

A brilliant beam of pink energy exploded from the Magearna’s sparkling Soul Heart, aimed to breach the flesh and free Cian and his pokemon from the Guzzlord’s belly.

"So we might just be where they all came from?" he wondered aloud. Wouldn't surprise him, with how destroyed everything seemed to be. "Guess them getting so big is why this place is like a battlefield. Dunno if it could ever recover from all this destruction."

It did bring some pity into his heart for the Megalopolans here; their home was pretty much gone now. Even if by some miracle they could rebuild, it would never be the same for them.

And one of those causes was right in front of them, and its durability proved just how so much destruction could be wrought, barely budging as Eva Morales 's Magearna and his Beheeyem attacked it. They had to get CIAN MAHER out of there fast, before he would get digested.

As the Magearna's Fleur Cannon was fired, Hideo's Beheeyem warned him of another approaching Ultra Beast, the exact same one that they'd encountered inside the building they entered last time they were here. "Aw shit," Hideo said, "there's another Ultra Beast. We gotta…wait - Elga, toss it at the other one!"

A raised hand from his Beheeyem, and a Psychic enveloped the approaching Blacephalon, whose head was already starting to glow bright. It tossed the Blacephalon right at the Guzzlord, the Mind Blown going off just after making contact with the target's body.

Hideo could only hope that would be enough force to get Cian out…

[attr="class","cianmain"]from both inside and outside, they work to free rustboro's gym leader. the FLEUR CANNON along with blacephalon's MIND BLOWN are more than enough to get the guzzlord to spit him back out, but his mankey believes its CLOSE COMBAT is the final blow needed as it pummels away at the guzzlord's massive head, bonking it again and again.

"wah—agh!"

he goes the wrong way of the water slide but ends up splashing out on the ground outside somehow, joined by his type: null that immediately shakes dry like a dog would.

"fucking ew!"

he whips his head around to see the guzzlord falling right at him. he panics and grabs the first pokeball he can only to toss it up at it. luckily, it's an empty one, and it pops open to consume the ultra beast whole.

“Uh-oh,” she muttered beneath her breath, spying the bouncing death clown that began to ominously glow. She’s had enough experience with them to know what that means, “Magearna! Get outta there!” they needed to give the MIND BLOWN a wide margin to ensure they didn’t get blown away alongside the Guzzlord.

Both Eva and the machine leaped as far away as they could before the clown’s head goes BOOM.

When she peeked out from behind the slab of building she found, she could see CIAN MAHER hitting the ground coated in a thick, malodorous, vile goo. The smell alone made Eva cringe, and that’s saying a lot coming from a medical professional.

Her long stride towards Cian’s side to make sure he’s alright were broken by a small, whining growl. When the large Guzzlord’s form disappeared into Cian’s pokeball, it revealed a smaller, perhaps younger Ultra Beast behind it. Its thin tentacles waved fearlessly outward, making itself appear larger than it actually was (which was still very large).

“Magearna,” Eva ordered and crouched beside Cian, “You alright there, man?” she attempted to help him to his feet, swallowing down the bile pooling in her throat.

Meanwhile Magearna engaged the remaining Guzzlord, beating it back with forceful IRON HEAD.

Hideo's gambit worked, and everyone's efforts managed to rescue CIAN MAHER - though not in the most graceful way; Hideo had to take a few steps away from that stench, pinching his nose shut.

Better than getting digested, at least. And Cian had managed to catch the Ultra Beast afterwards…

Which gave Hideo an idea. "Elga, bring that exploding clown thing over here," Hideo said, his Beheeyem graciously carrying the Blacephalon over with its Psychic powers.

And according to his Beheeyem, the creature didn't put up much resistance. Had that explosion taken a lot out of it? Maybe he could learn about that later; he tossed a spare Pokeball at the Blacephalon, drawing it in.

"Guess that makes me an Ultra Beast owner," Hideo mused aloud, pocketing the ball. All that was left was that other Ultra Beast his Beheeyem told him was present - that Eva Morales already sicced her Magearna on. It was smaller than the one that attacked Cian, so he was confident she had it handled.

Though the sounds ringing through the air didn't encourage him to stay.

"Uh, guys?" Hideo half-shouted, "I think we're about to get some more company!"
