Just as Blinky the Jolteon required a unique saddle to be ridden at all, so did Hylda. The front of the Glastrier's saddle had a guard not around the legs, but behind the back of her neck. It was a vital safety measure to ride the High King's sacred horse to begin with; her pointed ice-mane was sharp as a spear, and could easily skewer Josh if he was ever thrown forward in the saddle.

The few who knew the ice-type may have been aware that this was one horse not known for its speed. Hylda, though, was built different. Under the care of the Master of Faster, she could put on some speed. She was among the Gym Leader's slower Pokémon, much like Nitro the Gogoat was, but the speed her High Horsepower could grant her in a pinch would be nothing to be trifled with.

On his way back to the complex that he had destroyed with Hideo Kino , Josh was ready to rendezvous with Elise Calcifet . With Rocket's operation in jeopardy, it fell to some of the most crack forces the syndicate had to try to stop the two from meeting up. Little did he know that an elite of the elite would be on their way...

Bryan had left from his battle with Navy, using his ability to vanish into trees to make a quick exit as Xerneas speaks to him 'One believes that your mortal body is pushing itself very far young bryan.' [break][break]

"I know, but I don't have a choice." [break][break]

From within the tree's near the shoreline he spots Josh Devlin on one of those ice horses that he had heard of, he forgot it's name but he knew it was a force to be reckoned with. He also knew this guy was one of the newer gym leaders...rocket had spoken of him very little but he was still a gym leader none the less, he represented the league. [break][break]

Therefore he was obligated to fight him on sight. "Cut off his path, Frenzy plant." he orders as suddenly plant life erupted onto the shore in front of Josh, in addition a path from behind erupts out as well cutting them off, yet still leaving plenty of room to fight. From the treeline, bryan emerges wood turning into skin as he peels himself off of the tree. [break][break]

Bruises from his fight with Navy heal before Josh's eyes as Bryan rolls his neck "Awww did you get lost? This is going to be rocket turf now so...sorry, gotta kill you." he says wondering how josh would react to his statement.

Josh guffawed at the ring of FRENZY PLANT surrounding him. "Hylda, ICICLE CRASH!" The rearing horse sprouted sharp shards of ice on the front of her body, ramming into the writhing vines to freeze and shatter them. They did not budge, the ice-type making an uncommanded about face and bounding away from the divine vines.

Josh's heart started to race as he saw Bryan's supernatural healing, the gift of true immortality, in action. Still, it was his duty to keep expanding the League's turf. "Last I checked, this was League territory," the Gym Leader proudly retorted with a scowl, looking down at the Lifebringer and ready to encase him in ice. Another barrage of ICICLE CRASH formed in front of the equine, Josh spurring Hylda to ram and trample him.

"You leaguers are rather slow on the uptake." He doesn't seem to initially move at first as suddenly the plant life in the area vibrates as Bryan immediately channels his Z-MOVE [break][break]

A tree of life erupts from the floor in front of him "Black Briar." he orders as black briar thorns erupt through the area, joining with the earlier frenzy plants as a spherical dome encapsulates both of them lashing out towards Josh's Glastrier to try and push back against the icicle crash. [break][break]

Moments later, the tree stirs, it stretches as if making room for something to emerge from it as Xerneas appears to peel itself off of the tree in it's full regal gaze. [break][break]

As it stares down upon josh and his steed and remains silent as it goes into active mode.

The Lifebringer's Z-MOVE: BLACK BRIAR and the constricting FRENZY PLANT closed in on Josh, forcing him into a smaller and smaller space until both collided. The thorned vines expanded around Hylda, piercing her icy hide like it was nothing and snapping the Glastrier's ICICLE SHARDS to pieces.

Before him was a Pokémon the Gym Leader had never seen before, radiating an almost toxic amount of INFINITY ENERGY. With but a thought and flashing colors from its rainbow-colored antlers. Having not the slightest clue on how to battle the Fairy-type, Josh reached for his belt, letting out a loud yelp as the briars scratched his hand, blood dripping from it. The grass-type attack had hit him with such force and precision that every one of his Poké Balls' release mechanisms had jammed.

As long as the briars surrounded him and Hylda, they could neither attack nor defend. All she could do was expel MIST from her freezing body to try to shatter enough of the briars around her to regain running room.

The kid was choking. Pathetic. [break][break]

however his pokemon was still putting up a good enough fight and so Bryan knew that they'd need to prepare for after the briar Z-move ends. "Xerneas. Geomancy, I'll go forward." he says as his thieval emerges from the thicket of branches that blocked the exit and entrance of the dome as if he was one with them. "Night slash!" he orders as instead of jumping the pokemon, it's instead going for the trainer. [break][break]

With his Sygna Suit on the mend when he needed it most, things were looking grim for Josh. Unable to move laterally thanks to Xerneas' briars, Hylda reared in an effort to protect him from the Thievul's sharp claws. Though she was perhaps the fastest Glastrier in the world, she was not fast enough to stop the scampering Thievul from dashing to her side, leaping toward the rider, and raking across the side of his head with a wild NIGHT SLASH.

Josh's head thumped, blood dripping down the side of each of his cheeks as the Thievul tore into him. Even if he wore his Sygna Suit, it would have done little to protect him; with his Poké Balls' release mechanisms locked, he had no way to activate his suit. In an act of desperation, the rearing Glastrier stomped in the dark-type fox's direction, trying to crush it underneath her HIGH HORSEPOWER.

Was a fateful encounter with the Lifebringer how the Gym Leader would be dealt death?

His attack lands on Josh, however the glastrier manages to get a powerful high horsepower onto the frail pokemon. Despite it's speed, it had a very low health pool, knocking it out instantly. [break][break]

Bryan sucks on his teeth in annoyance and recalls it. "Alright brat, you're gonna regret that. Xerneas." as GEOMANCY activates and Xerneas releases it's cascade of light ENHANCING ALL OF IT'S STATS. "Horn leech." he orders as Xerneas charges forward in a fury towards the pair as he lowers his antlers and tries to ram into the duo. [break][break]

His black briar z-move started to wane.

With divine strength reinforcing their horns, the rainbow-colored Fairy-type delivered a sharp, hooking uppercut to Hylda's chin. The supernatural force behind the HORN LEECH sent the Glastrier flying toward the top of the fading BLACK BRIAR dome. Josh went flying with him, the nettles stabbing him in the back just as they faded to nothingness.

The wide battleground rained with Josh's blood. His entire body thumped as heard Hylda crash-land on the sands of the southwestern part of the island. He, too, landed near the frigid, motionless, and unconscious stallion, reaching for his radio. "HQ, do you... read? This is... Gym Leader Devlin... My Glastrier and I... are both... badly hurt... send..." As he rolled onto his back, he struggled to keep his own eyes open. He inadvertently pushed the switch on the Poké Ball containing Mastema, his Togekiss, who showered his now-unconscious body with LIFE DEW to keep him alive.
