…Wow, this is a gigantic fucking pain in your asshole! You breathe a long, exasperated, and very audible sigh. What to do, what to do? Admit your identity and get this over with, or stay incognito and pick a fight with a seven year old? Sure, the former is quicker and easier, but it’s also admitting defeat. Are you really going to let the twerp win, after all she’s done? No. You HAVE to fight her. There’s no other option.

You grab a Pokeball from your belt and toss it forth, sending out your silly fellow to have a fair but fun scrap with Rowlet, a goofy guy to entertain this whimsical charade - XURKITREE. As the squirming mass of cables looks down on the tiny owl it’ll be fighting, it turns to you and crosses its arms, as though it's so obviously and immediately disappointed that you’ve sunk to this level. That might be a problem, were they not obligated by convention to follow your orders.

”Thunder Wave!”

If the Ultra Beast had eyes to roll, they would assuredly be rolling. Without them, all it can do is linger for a moment before lazily outstretching an arm, sending forth a burst of static electricity to try and paralyse the Rowlet.

For a moment, she actually feels bad for fielding Odette when she has far too little battle experience. Oh, who is she kidding? She was never gonna play fair anyways if it meant keeping howard slayte safe.[break][break]

A whistle gets the Rowlet panicking just that bit, an oversized Leaf Blade produced as she tries her best to swing it right for the Xurikitree. But she flinches at the sudden current that jolts through her body, squeaking as her attack falters.[break][break]

Thankfully, something else rather malicious is brewing. Behind it all, Eris' Heatran has disappeared, Digging into the sand without a hint of hesitation.

This battle is so one-sided, it can hardly even be called a battle. She's fielding a starter Pokemon, and you've got a monster that doesn't even exist in this dimension. The little owl puts up a good effort, but it doesn't even get close before it's caught by the Thunder Wave. Now, it's a tiny paralysed bird fighting against a towering alien wire monster, like a more realistic version of what would happen in that old story about the Joltik and the Wailord.

Still, you're on a clock here. There's no fun to be had in easy pickings, and no sense in prolonging this bout any longer than it needs to be. It's time to win, take back Howard, and be about your way.

"Alright, Xurkitree. Finish him off!"

If the Ultra Beast could breath a sigh, they would. Alas, they could not, and thus, they were simply forced to endure their mild irritation. Raising an arm, it allowed electricity to arc around its copper claws, preparing a powerful Thunder Punch to--

"WOAH, okay! No need for that! Just, uh... Just shake him around until he goes unconscious."

Reaching forth, it grabbed the body of the Rowlet, and proceeded to Powerfully Whip it around and around, all in the hopes of getting the bird to pass out.

...Huh. Wasn't there a Heatran here earlier? Where did it go...?

Heaven knows what would happen if that Xurikitree had actually followed through on that killer blow. As they grip right onto the Rowlet, Eris is already pulling out her pokeball, recalling the unconscious battler before any further harm can come of it.[break][break]

She really doesn't have to fight this. She really can just give Howard over. But his attitude has earned her ire and she finds that she won't be leaving unless she gets that one good hit back.[break][break]

Without warning, a Heatran explodes out of the sand right underneath the Xurkitree, attempting to clamp her maws around their wirey legs and cut their escape by pulling them right into the ground. And as she does so, relatively blunt Stone Edges are aimed at their spark-like head. All to try and concuss them like how howard slayte had been in some way.

It's debatable whether or not a Xurkitree even can get concussed. After all, it is an alien. Maybe it doesn't have a brain in that weird bulb that's vaguely anomalous to a head. Is it even conscious? Can it think, can it feel? Is it even real?

But if it truly does have a brain, then it would absolutely be concussed by the following sequence. As the Heatran bursts from the ground, its jaws trap the Ultra Beast, clamping down on its legs. Then, the Stone Edge smashes into its head, hitting it like a dozen uppercuts all at once. One can almost hear its grey matter slamming against the top of its skull (if it has either of those), only to be suddenly brought crashing down to the bottom as its dragged down into the ground. The damage is bad, but the whiplash is worst. Still, it won't be enough to put them down.

"Tch! Playing dirty, are we? Fine! Xurkitree, Zap Cannon that Heatran!"

Nothing. The Ultra Beast remains limp, unmoving. Was that really enough to knock it out? What the fuck! What happened to the super strong bastard that you had to deal with in the Ultra Plant? This is just like that thing when you beat a boss in a video game, and you finally unlock them, but they turn out to be weak as shit. Highly disappointing. And now what the hell are you supposed to do?

"...Ugh, fine! I am Shred Zeppelin." You give up the ghost, but that doesn't mean you have to like it. Still, you can't afford to waste any more time on this, so you'll have to make a small sacrifice to get this over with. "Are you happy? Now hand over Howard."

And she is rather pleasantly surprised when she realises that Azzy really has knocked it out (even if she does mutter a quiet apology under her breath). Sticking her tongue out at this old man, she blows a raspberry.[break][break]

Of course she would try to try her best to get the last laugh. And in exchange for his admission of defeat, she creates enough distance between them before gesturing over to howard slayte - Sleeping ever so peacefully without a single care in the world. A real honk-shooer in the middle of a battlefield.[break][break]

She didn't hit his head that hard, did she?[break][break]

"Make sure to take him to a medic or something! To check whether his head is still okay!"[break][break]

You don't know whether you're completely furious or utterly defeated right now. What you do know is that if your teeth were grit any harder, they'd shatter under the pressure. You were having yourself a delightful little war, hidden away in your cave, and then this had to come along and screw it all up for you. Well, at the very least, this is over now. With a grunt, you drag Howard along the ground, and with some effort, manage to heave him up atop your Golurk. With one unconscious disappointment taken care of, you turn around to retrieve the other one--

THUMPTH!

...Huh. You could've sworn that Xurkitree had fainted a little closer to the sea, where the hole was. Why is its body so far up the beach now? If you didn't know any better, you'd say that it had been making a run inland when you weren't looking...

But you do know better. C'mon, why would Xurkitree try to run away? He's your buddy! It was probably just that Heatran fucking with you. He seems like a real bastard, that one. With a tap, you return the Ultra Beast to his Pokeball, and grab onto your Golurk as it flies away, away from this dreadful isle and back to the skies above.

This might've been the worst loss of your life ever, but hey, at least it was over now. You'd only have to live with this shame for the rest of your entire life.
