The stretch along Route 124 was calm as they walked along it. It reminds him of when they first befriended one another–taking the time to go out and catch different pokemon for the fun of it. At least this time they’re not on a boat.[break][break]
“Can’t remember the last time we did this,” Lam remarks as he looks over at MATIAS SILPH. Between them, his psyduck waddles. She’s an independent creature, even in her spoiled helplessness. Bent on being doted on, but only on her terms. Which means that yes, she will walk until she demands to be carried.[break][break]
“Feels like there’s just way too much going on to keep up with.” No time for calmer moments, though he’s been trying to find them between gym matches, and you know, the world almost coming to an end every other day.[break][break]
But of course, Lam had to go and jinx it, huh?[break][break]
As if he speaks abnormality into existence, the ripple of a distortion flares with unnaturally dark light around them. Timespace melds around them, the pocket easily removing them from the route. It reminds him of the one he clued illeana reyes in on, right over the water in Lilycove. “My timing is impeccable,” he remarks dryly as Peaches takes her cue to scamper back to him and cling to his leg.

that's all matias can say as he watches the rift ripple into existence, forming out of nowhere to block them from continuing on their leisurely stroll. he's not even exasperated about it, more so amused at the timing.[break][break]

He skirts the parameter of it, prodding lightly. “Right, agreed.” Stooping, he lifts his psyduck as she holds up arms for him.[break][break]
“Only way past it is through, yeah? He looks up, and the walls stretches high, high into the sky.[break][break]

Between the two of them, this shouldn't be too bad, right? That's his thought, anyway. The fact that it's cropped up so close to the city doesn't sit well with Lam, so he probably would've gone with or without Matias alongside him.[break][break]
"Right behind you." He follows easily. Without question. At least this time.[break][break]
His psyduck is set down once they cross the threshold, the world rippling and shifting around them. This is different from the last one he traversed, though. There's almost something void about the place, but he doesn't know how to define it.[break][break]

"i'm not sure what world this is but it looks like ours, except twisted and morphed."[break][break]

he points at the patches of land that are seemingly floating in the air, each one twisted and out of place. he takes a step toward the one on the left, having to reach his leg up high only to easily step onto it. to lam, matias is now standing horizontally with no added pressure whatsover.[break][break]

“Huh?” His head tilts, and sure enough, when he looks over at Matias, the elite four is sideways.[break][break]
He makes a short hop and the world turns and shifts to accommodate the tilt in the new piece of earth he lands on. Looking back, his psyduck watches with flipper claws pressed to the sides of her head—obviously skeptical of making the same leap.[beak][break]
“This is so weird.”[break][break]
The route is broken up into these clusters of topsy turvy earth.[break][break]
“Wonder what’s suspending them.” Does that mean they’d float the same? Toeing the edge of the cluster, he peers down and checks the pokeball secured on his belt.[break][break]
Then steps off the edge, curious as to whether he’ll be suspended.[break][break]
Or drop straight down.

even for a water-type like phione with no legs, a pokemon that floats, their entire being is flipped on its side when it hovers toward matias, joining him in topsy-turvy land.[break][break]

Maybe he should’ve taken note of the normal gravity laws not applying to Matias’ phione.[break][break]
“It’s all good!” he says as he takes the step.[break][break]
His heart lurches when he does, in fact, drop. He’s pretty sure his stomach hits his throat from the abruptness of the movement. On the floating clod above him, he can hear his psyduck honking wildly.[break][break]
Somehow, even falling feels weird.[break][break]
But this is something he’s prepared for. He taps the release on the pokeball he checked for and his altaria pops free to swoop underneath him. “See? All good!” he calls up from below.

his heart does the lightest skip at the sight of his friend falling to his presumed death. what an inconvenience that would've been—think of the paperwork. but is relieved to see them floating back up moments later.[break][break]

Lam flashes Matias a thumbs up. “See? Pays to be the bird guy.” If he realized that Matias was exceptionally disconcerted about the paperwork he would caused in falling to his death, he might’ve been a bit stung.[break][break]
But luckily, he remains unaware of his inconvenience.[break][break]

“Hell yeah.” It’s kinda unnerving, but interesting at the same time. No warning flags go up, not yet. Following suit, he urges the altaria forward and she floats through the portal after Matias.[break][break]
“Any sign of phione?”[break][break]
Mallow coos with uncertainty as the world around them shifts into a reflection of where they came from, but not quite right.[break][break]
“Looks like it,” he replies as a small frown shifts his expression. “Is that your house?” He glances over at Matias, and cracks a joke.[break][break]
“Dude, maybe there’s, like, a Mirror Matias in there.” A low single note of laughter follows, but a grin doesn’t exactly cross his mouth, either.
