Shalin had experienced but a taste of the Interdream Mist's dangers when she had fought alongside Michael Navidson the last time the two had seen one another. Her nerves were spiking as she took her first steps inside the Interdream Zone for real... though it was her Persian mount that took the steps for her. It was a psychedelic and disorienting experience, and disorienting in a different way than trying to hold onto her Flygon's wing fluttering dozens of times per second.

As the rainbow-colored mists swirled to form a quadrupedal, menacing, and almost alien-looking figure, Shalin drew her AVIAN BOW, ready to shoot. Little did she know how ineffective it (and the Sygna Suit she wore) would be against the nature of the foe the mist was forming...

[break][break] It is the same, yet different, from that time in the Ultra Deep Sea. Rather than rock him from where he stands, it makes him feel steady.

[break][break] Shalin Nariya. He recognized her. The ranger who got away.

[break][break] Wearing his SYGNA SUIT, Jayden would still be recognizable with his mask. It was up to the ranger if she would recognize him, though.

Shalin reciprocated the Admin's greeting with an "It's you!" of her own, kicking Serena's sides with a bit more strength than the cat was used to. Bounding forward and bouncing her rider with vigor that tested her grip, the rattling noise and red-eyed GLARE likewise rattled Serena, her hair standing up as she aborted her charge and FURY SWIPES.

Shalin herself was unaffected by the snake's scare tactics; during her examination for promotion to Captain, she had captured a Silicobra by going for a ride on its rattling tail. As fantastical as it was, she had ollie morales as a witness. "Come on Serena, fight it!" she encouraged, gently patting her mount's head. As much as Serena appreciated the mental pick-me-up, it would do little to overcome the fear gripping her.

The GLARE had the desired effect. Taking advantage of the other's stunned status, the Rocket Admin directed his pokemon:

[break][break] The Silicobra rattled furiously, hissing with rage, before aiming a BRUTAL SWING at Shalin Nariya and her stead in order to sweep them off her feet.

[break][break] Triggering his SYGNA SUIT, his Ceruledge leaps forward with a shout as he feels his trainer's RAGE.

[break][break] A CLEAR SMOG rolls out towards their opponents.

Paralyzed with fear, there was little Serena could do as the vibrating tail crashed into her. While Shalin's suit, designed to withstand such vibration, kept her mostly safe, her Persian was not spared from the Silicobra's wrath. Overwhelmed by both of the Admin's Pokémon, the normal-type could no longer stand, Shalin sliding down before the feline keeled over. She winced, recalling the downed Persian that was choking on the CLEAR SMOG.

There was no more holding back. Not after being overwhelmed by fern delaney 's Alolan god. Not after Corona died by Shred Zeppelin 's cold hands. Tossing her Flygon's Poké Ball beneath her, the Flygon's emergence shunted her trainer upward, right into the dragon's saddle. Two SYNC STONES humming, this would be the first test of her suit's true combat capabilities. Lathiel came to her side beneath her, as well, the Type: Null lunging toward the Silicobra with her CRUSH CLAW.

Shalin herself would not let the Ceruledge's reckless abandon go unpunished, either; with shrieking wings that made the rider's hair stand on end, EARTH POWER erupted around Sandy, the buglike dragon flitting toward the fire-type to catch the dancing phantom in the seismic field's radius.

The Silicobra gave a wail of pain as the CRUSH CLAW sunk into skin. He hissed as his body began to rattle furiously, slowing growing with intensity as a SAND TOMB wrapped around both him and the Type: Null in an attempt to trap them both in it's deadly embrace.

[break][break] Meanwhile, a single button on his forearm triggered the suit's activity — metal slid around his armor, covering his face until there was nothing but bright blue eyes glaring out from the face-shield.

[break][break] Feeling BOLD, the pokemon leaped forward and slashed its swords out. A PROTECT rippled around both him and his master, just as the EARTH POWER took effect, splitting the ground in two.

Trapped in close quarters with the Silicobra, Lathiel expressed great discomfort being up against a foe that was stronger than she was. Shalin was totally unaware of what was going on inside the SAND TOMB, and unaware of the point-blank TRI-ATTACK that came from the Normal-type's retainer. Only the fire and electric particles were aimed directly: she shot the ice particle wide on purpose, doing what she could to drop the latent temperature around herself and the ground-type. She didn't think Ground-types would appreciate the cold too much.

Sandy's wings roared, their shriek-like humming ripping apart the ground in front of her. The Ceruledge's perfect defense left a cone of undisturbed rock around the sinkhole Shalin's Pokémon had created. Feeling an ache in her shoulder blades, Shalin could tell Sandy's overuse of her wings was making them less effective. Plus, she had to save some of her strength to play her fun trump card down the line. Giving them a rest, the Flygon fluttered at the minimum speed necessary to maintain swift flight, diving toward the phantom's soul gem with CRUNCHING fangs wide open.

The TRI-ATTACK does it's work. With the temperatures lowered, ice crackles around the Silicobra's scales. Growing colder and colder until the mixture of the sand prison and ice gather into deadly frost — death claims the snake before it can prepare a proper rebuttle, growing limp as the sandstorm ceases.

[break][break] The Flygon bursts forward, fangs wide open, that close around the Ceruledge's blade. A bright green light brews as the Czar pushes his sword back against the bug-type, digging it's heels into the sand.

Lathiel's TRI ATTACK had freed her, feeling completely remorseless about having frozen the sandy snake to a bone-chilling end. The Type: Null bounded beneath Shalin, ready for the next Pokémon she expected jayden cross to hurl toward her when the Captain continued her resistance.

Catching a jawful of burning Ceruledge blade was unpleasant for the Flygon, the dragon struggling to spit the cutting edge out of her mouth. "To surrender to you would be turning my back on Rustboro's people," Shalin answered. "That would be betraying not just Rustboro, but all of Hoenn." Still in melee range, her Flygon lunged toward the Ceruledge with a DRAGON CLAW. Shalin got in on the action herself, drawing her AVIAN BOW and looking for a window in which she could let one of its blessed Flying-type arrows fly.

These kinds of people, these megalomaniacal followers of Rocket, were the ones Josh Devlin warned Shalin about when she took her Captain's chair. She didn't even want to reason with someone so selfish. So delusional. So one-tracked. So out of touch with the way the world truly worked. "I can't defend Hoenn alone. But I can start with the people of Rustboro. The people who look up to their Captain. And the people who look up to CIAN MAHER , who can't be here to defend his people. He relies on me to make sure we will always have a Rustboro to return to."

The admin's BITTER BLADE clashed with the DRAGON CLAW, though it dissipated as soon as the Gengar's MEGA EVOLUTION took place and let Sandy gain the upper hand. It was all a diversion to clear the way for the Mega Evolved ghost-type's ICY WIND.

Drawing energy from her own suit, Shalin began to raise a SPECIAL SHIELD between the Gengar and the two of them. Her reaction was too slow, frost forming over the insectile dragon's vibrating wings. Their roar turned into a whimper, the Flygon's flight petering out as they tumbled into a small crater hidden within the mist. Shalin, too, was covered in frost, her teeth clacking and shivering as she shared in her Flygon's pain. Her Sygna bond caused her to share everything with her Pokémon.

Including weaknesses.

[break][break] It is almost laughable, how foolish the league have made the Hoenn people. That even people like Shalin Nariya, in positions of power, would have such lapses of judgement.

Sharing the pain of the ICY WIND was not enough to satiate jayden cross 's hatred of the Ranger. The frigid attack halted the flow of Infinity Energy between Shalin and her Flygon, making her suit inert and unable to protect her from the PSYCHO CUT that sliced across the Captain's chest. Blood sprayed in the Ceruledge's face, the deep critical hit leaving her shaking from both her cauterized wound and from the low temperatures surrounding the Cursed.

With Shalin clutching her wound in an effort to stem the bleeding, an angry-looking Lathiel stared the Ceruledge down. With extra vigor, the amalgamated Pokémon thrust her IRON HEAD toward the bladed phantom.

"He was... you mean... was..." the girl managed between breaths, hiding behind her Pokémon for her own well-being. "He... denounced... Rocket... after exposing the... horrible evil... for what it is!" If she didn't find a window to saddle up and retreat, she might not make it back to League HQ alive!
