Another night of reconnaissance. Elisabeth hovered on the back of her MEGA-EVOLVED BUTTERFREE, gliding silently through the pitch-black sky. Carmine eyes scanned the mysterious island below, attempting to guess at where the League might prioritize its own efforts.[break][break]

She didn't care about what secrets the mountains housed, exactly. She cared more that her targets cared about such things.[break][break]

Large gossamer wings shifted to catch the latest current of wind, dipping elegantly beneath the stars as the underboss made quiet calculations. This hour was late enough she didn't expect to run into the likes of lam logan again, fate willing; still, the stars around her seemed far too blinding for her taste.[break][break]

Their flickering was a warning, perhaps, she should have heeded.

Nenet watched with pursed lips as she took down the flashing starlight on her notepad. The Minior all spelled one word: Enemy.

Despite her distaste for the fighting happening on the island - Nenet certainly had better things to be doing than this, she pulled a flashlight from her pack and began to switch it on and off.
[break][break]
In reply to her Minior the directive came: Attack.
[break][break]
With that, the starlight around Elisabeth brightened, and then suddenly went out. The night air whips oddly through the sky, and with little warning a Minior goes screaming downwards; it just misses crashing into Mega Butterfree's wing, a strike which would have surely punched through like a pencil through paper.

That certainly won't be the last attack.

It was as if the night sky itself turned hostile against her.[break][break]

Sizzling strikes cut through the darkness, burning bright as a New Year's firework as they sought to singe her Butterfree's large wings. Deftly TELEPORTING to and fro to evade notice, the unnaturally large Bug-type Pokemon remained calm even as her trainer felt mild nausea build at the acrobatics that ensued.[break][break]

There was no sense fighting with a creature that had to focus on keeping her mounted. Another Pokemon would have to enter the fray to fend off these irritants.[break][break]

Pale frost heralded the arrival of a FROSMOTH mid-air, snow flurries collecting as a BLIZZARD sought to blot out the strange stars in an unforgiving haze of white.

Despite its size, the Butterfree had the benefit of teleporting, allowing it to only-just dodge the Minior's attacks towards its wings. A second pokemon was released, one that was difficult for Nenet to place until she pulled out a small pair of binoculars and sighted the Frosmoth dancing amidst the air; her identification was soon for naught as snow erupted all around, obscuring the battlefield.

Losing their visual form of communication did little to hamper the Minior, however. With a small spark of black light, one of the little meteors rumbled as pieces of its shell broke away and seeded the air with Stealth Rocks, making the proceeding fight even more perilous for those with wings - especially paired with the temperature.

In tandem, a second Minior slung stars across the sky towards the Frosmoth with an icy Swift.

How strange, to see the celestial expanse above become narrower as the STEALTH ROCKS did their work: impeding entry for any of Elisabeth's Pokemon that dared to brave this future hazard. For now, her Butterfree maintained her airborne, unbothered by this unwanted change in terrain.[break][break]

The snow ebbed, its curtain of white parting as her Frosmoth scoured its surroundings for any remnant of its prey. Instead, stars burst out of its peripheral vision, the SWIFT attack colliding with it and the Butterfree alike. Elisabeth winced as she held on tightly, determined not to fall -- determined not to fall and falter.[break][break]

The WIDE GUARD of her Frosmoth flared into action, blunting the attack even if it couldn't prevent it from connecting. Gravity pulled on both Bug-type Pokemon, but ultimately failed to drag them to the depths below.[break][break]

A HURRICANE struck back with a beat of her Butterfree's wings, summoning gales that had been wintry and chill before to now billow forth with a tropical vengeance.

Nenet winced subtly herself as her Minior were sent flying outwards with the draft of the Hurricane, the whipping winds reaching even her down below.

Despite being battered by the wind, a Confuse Ray attempts to strike Butterfree from a distance, while the second Minior fills the air with pinpricks of starlight as it manifests its Cosmic Power and seeds the night air with a nebula of ominous stars. The third of the spiralling Minior takes the most advantage and its Shell Smash sends shards of rocks into the air anew - lighter now, its core glowing a violent orange.

The orange Minior adjusts course and heads straight towards Elisa's Frosmoth with nightmarish speed.

The world turned upside-down as CONFUSE RAY sent her Butterfree spinning, unable to determine which direction was which. Elisabeth pulled on the Pokemon's antennae as if they were reins, seeking to manually steer the Pokemon's path as it threatened to careen into the nearby environs. "This is why I hate flying anything," she muttered under her breath, the wind blowing in her face as she narrowly evaded disaster.[break][break]

While she fought to keep course, COSMIC POWER aimed its way to her Frosmoth, taking scattershot aim to batter into its white wings like pebble-shaped bullets. An INFESTATION of small, buzzing insects answered the Frosmoth's buzzing indignation, swarming the sky to chase back the Minior that had encroached upon its space.[break][break]

The orange dot hurtling towards it went unnoticed, until it was far too late.

While two dark pinpicks of light danced around the firmament, one streaming meteor glinted across the sky with growing light.

A soft whistling was the only warning of the Minior's approach, and then an earth shattering Explosion. The sky burst aflame. Leaving destruction in its wake, the Stealth Rock shards in the air thoroughly burned through, a molten Minior core of sanguine-gold falls towards the earth.

Nenet quickly digs through her pack and pulls out a pokeball, recalling the fainted meteor; the fleeting arc of red energy reveals her position. Wordlessly, she points to the confuse-addled Butterfree and the twin black Minior begin to regroup.

As the Minior increased in number, Elisabeth felt a familiar crawling sensation of dread overcome her, whispering that she was quickly losing her ground in this encounter. Whatever intelligence she'd hoped to gather here would be pointless and fruitless with such an eagle-eyed guard in the shadows.[break][break]

Just as she'd resolved herself to retreating, the EXPLOSION struck. Sparks flew and skittered all around her, starting her already confused Butterfree into bucking about in a startled panic. This thing will kill me, if I don't take control, Elisabeth thought begrudgingly, ordering with a kick of her heel to TELEPORT to the nearest Rocket encampment.[break][break]

She didn't spare a glance behind her for the Frosmoth. It had no easy means of escaping its inevitable fate.[break][break]

The strong lived, and the weak died.
