EVENT HORIZON
[break][break]
Necrozma did not respond to Zev's shouts—not with recognizable words, thoughts, or gestures.[break][break]
It responded with pain.[break][break]
Zev felt a shift in the pull between his crystals and Necrozma's very essence. Their connection snapped into alignment, and tremendous psychic power wrenched open his mind.[break][break]
Untold millennia of agony flooded him. It was no mere physical pain, but an existential sundering, an unholy rending of the soul. Revulsion shuddered through Zev at the concept of such violation, though he did not know what had caused this or why.[break][break]
The deluge of emotions did not have distinct origins; he could not associate them with moments in time. Instead, there existed only a distant beginning and an enduring, all-encompassing trauma.[break][break]
At the heels of so much pain and wrongness came a storm of wrath and malice. Only then did Zev notice he was screaming. As he and Necrozma passed through a rift in reality to a different universe, he shut his mouth, jaw clenched tight and teeth bared against the lingering remnants of his—Necrozma's—excruciation.[break][break]
The monstrous Pokémon dropped Zev into the palm of its other hand. His entire body trembling, he turned and beheld the twinkling city beneath them.[break][break]
All at once, he understood. He opened his mouth to speak and found his throat rough and raw. Swallowing hard, he tried again.[break][break]
"I get it." Blue eyes blazed with hatred and disdain as he regarded the city.
"You and me, we're the same, aren't we?"[break][break]
Power surged through their connection. Zev sensed something new, something he couldn't put into words right away: a compelling force pulling down on everything. The buildings toward which they descended. His own body. The very air.[break][break]
Slowly, it dawned on him. Gravity.[break][break]
Alarms rang out from below. Soon, the Megalopolans—for the city's inhabitants
were Megalopolans, he knew—would fight against the doom about to befall their home.[break][break]
Fight, and fail.[break][break]
Still seething with eons of his patron's suffering, Zev held out his hands. Carefully, he picked out the nearest pillars, isolating them in his new awareness from everything else. And then, with a mere thought, he applied pressure.[break][break]
They crumpled in an instant. From his vantage point, he could hear the shuddering impact as they slammed into the ground.[break][break]
Necrozma roared in a discordant, alien voice; through their link, Zev felt something from it akin to grim satisfaction. It boosted the terrible concoction of pride, delight, and giddy exhilaration that swelled in him.[break][break]
He spread his arms wide and took a deep, ravenous breath. At the same time, Necrozma's eyes flashed white. All the dazzling lights blinked out at once, siphoning their warmth into both man and Pokémon.[break][break]
And as his patron fired beautiful, devastating laser beams upon the Megalopolan city, Zev crushed it into rubble, one section at a time.
