working on halloween night was a blight of his existence. it honestly should be considered a toxic work environment when they get forced to work during one of the more fun holidays.

he follows a scent trail of where the missing children were supposed to be. it leads deeper into the more forested areas of verdanturf, just near where a neighborhood where trick or treating was about to start, and it was important to investigate a reason before the time comes.

enter kyle.

after being asked to investigate by locals rather than the authority, he and his mightyena stumbles upon another individual on the way. perhaps they are attracted by the mystery from the rumors of missing children, or maybe the leaking interdream mist nearby was the invitation. either way, kyle approaches them.

"hello," he greets. "do you know anything about the supposed missing children?"

[break][break] jayden had never been the biggest fan of it, which may have struck ironic considering how much he enjoyed ghost pokemon. how much his father traversed the shady underground, or how natural it was to be followed by ghastly ghouls and all things terrible.

[break][break] but neither parent had ever been a fan of playing dress-up or assisting either son in trapezing around the neighborhood begging for candy.

[break][break] the leaking interdream mist draws him into the woods, as such the allure of ghost-types mingling about. jayden was dressed in a normal suit and tie, with nothing but mimikyu ears to accompany him — a gift from mint frost a year prior.

[break][break] "missing children?" he echoed, approaching kyle lopez. his brow furrowed. "there are children missing?"

"yup."

it doesn't faze kyle anymore when people aren't aware of local problems. it used to be a big deal, but with pokemon of legend and other supernatural disasters happening at least once every few months, it becomes cared for less.

"supposedly, they're cancelling the local treat-or-treating if the problem isn't solved," he explains his motive. "they want me to deal with it since it's supposedly spooky, but we all know it's just one of those weird stuff happening in the region at work."

his mightyena sniffs on the ground and then points deeper into the forest.

"do you want to come along?" usually, people are interested in these kinds of stuff, so he figured he can be nice and invite them along.

"kyle," he answers. "and yours?"

he cocks his head to the direction of where his mightyena starts to follow a trail. a slight smile of friendliness presents itself with the invitation.

a pokemon's involvement was evident on the trail, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of violence at the very least.

"it doesn't look like paradox pokemon, i think." that's what they call those pokemon from the interdream mist that are basically doppelgangers of existing pokemon, but scarier.

mist seeps from the ground in trace amounts. kyle isn't sure what to make out of it with regards to the case.

ironic, given that he's one of the few that can get a person back to life.

his mightyena eventually reaches a clearing that shows an entrance to a cave. verdanturf is one of the towns walled in by mountains, so he supposed he shouldn't be surprised that this is where the trail led them.

"um, do drifloons go inside caves?"

regardless of the answer, kyle walks inside. what they see is a tunnel with small terastal crystals, with one particular drowzee harnessing its powers

[break][break] drifloon liked open spaces or forested areas. if stuck in a cave, they could easily get caught on stalactites and stalagmites. more than that, if stuck in a cave such as this, who knew what sorts of ultra beasts or wormholes may have lied within it's depths? and how sad would that have been?

[break][break] perhaps only a bit sadder than lost children.

[break][break] he follows kyle lopez in anyway, reaching for his belt. his vaporeon is replaced by lukyan. the typhlosion's flames light the path.

[break][break] right before a wild hypno lay several small children, dozing away, as the psychic-type takes advantage.

[break][break] jayden glances swiftly at kyle, before directing his pokemon.

the mightyena joins in with the assault, firing off its dark pulse in conjunction with the typhlosion's swift. even with the terastalization, the psychic-type falls.

"thanks for the assist." he investigates the lost child left in the cave, unconscious.

"well, i have to bring him back to town now," he informs the stranger. "if you want to explore these strange caves, well, take care. usually interdream mist appears wherever those crystals are present."

the same people who linger around the forests are usually the same people who don't mind venturing towards unknown territory.

the way he dealt with the wild pokemon assured him he was a capable trainer. still, a few words of advise would never be not helpful even if they already know of it.
