Prince was less surprised than expected, given exactly who it was that Eris Halla lead them to meet. But, the grumpy Gardevoir just gave @issacmerlo a Look.[break][break]

He extended the mental offer to touch his mind with Telepathy as well. So the conversation would include the other if he trusted Prince not to scramble his brains.[break][break]

It was Prince who answered the question Isaac posed... kind of. Instead of words, it was a flash of images from Prince's eyes. It was not pretty. Even if Chu-e was doing it for Eris, they were still morally bankrupt on multiple levels. It's a Ranger, Petalburg beat. A holding cell in the Sub. She's unconscious, and Chu-e sits hunched over her head. A poison IV drip, hands pressed to her temples, their own eyes far away and with a mild glow of psychic energy.[break][break]

Chu-e had warned Isaac that Rocket would make them do this again.[break][break]

They don't get an ending to this scene. Prince is quick to scrub it away.[break][break]

Unlike Isaac or Chu-e or anyone else, Prince will not try to shield Eris from the horrors of this world.[break][break]

"Pr-ah-b-lem." The mixing of voices, chopped up, meets them again as Prince 'speaks' to the two of them.[break][break]

The flash of Sparklefur in all her Shadowed glory. The massive and mutated Delcatty sits like a lioness. Then quick flashes of other pokemon. Well trained monsters in battle. The group of Fairy, Psychic, and Normal types loom like dark shadows behind the Delcatty in the vision.[break][break]

These pokemon were killers.

Oh, but the next few mental images that flash by do catch her off-guard. What is he doing with the ranger? Prodding into their mind... to find her? That sort of answers how he's found out about things surrounding her, but she can save those questions for later.[break][break]

"Sparklefur?" She frowns, uncertain of how to feel on the matter. Sure, she's always known and accepted just what kind of nature those pokemon had but now that she's reminded of it, she's once again forced to confront the fact that it really isn't right.

It didn't make it any less distressing seeing what happened to a Ranger in his own backyard. He and ollie morales hadn't had much chance to discuss such matters yet, but the knowledge that it could've been him sent shivers down his spine. So, too, was the sight of him dredging up those old, forbidden techniques. Was Rocket bringing them back? Or had they always been around, with the only change being that Rocket's operatives were spared their bite?[break][break]

Perhaps this was what Cillian Quinn meant when he said "a better Rocket than Kanto."[break][break]

That was how ruthless Chu-e was. Their team may have been even worse. Isaac had seen many of them scampering around Chu-e's home, but the sight of them lined up like ranks of soldiers put them in a completely different light. In the center of them all was Sparklefur, who Chu-e had warned him to steer clear of. From the glimpse Isaac had seen, he could see why.[break][break]

"Then this might be too big of a job for one Pokemon." Even if Chu-e heard them out and stopped, would Sparklefur listen? Shadows lived for blood, and had a natural antipathy for any Pokemon that hadn't been broken into their mold. A better symbol of Rocket couldn't exist no matter how hard the propaganda departments tried.[break][break]

This was the fate Chu-e tried to spare Eris. Could she handle seeing it for what it truly was?[break][break]

"What do you think we should do?" A part of him was hoping Prince wouldn't answer. Them using those telepathic channels once reserved for his Echo left a shiver down his spine. At the same time, this was a very fragile situation. Prince's unique insights were invaluable, no matter how unnerving their presence on his brain was.

Prince take in their words; Eris Halla and Isaac Merlo would be able to feel the churning of his mind as the thought over the puzzle before them.[break][break]

Eventually, gingerly, scenes were shown.[break][break]

Around Chu-e, Sparklefur could almost be considered a normal Delcatty... if not for her massive size. She listened to Chu-e closely, a bond there despite the corruption of her heart. She was always at Chu-e's beck and call. She would do anything they told her to do. Even if it led to her death.[break][break]

But.[break][break]

Then comes more images. Of Sparklefur on her own, away from Chu-e. She was fussy and lazy, easily distracted by a quick meal. To the point she could almost be considered docile if kept full and fat.[break][break]

It wouldn't help with the other pokemon....[break][break]

But Sparklefur was the biggest threat anyway. If they could get her away from Chu-e, somehow, they would have a lot less to worry about.

Getting her fat and happy would fix the problem for a long, long time. "I'd say we should prepare. But something tells me we don't have a lot of time."[break][break]

Prince wouldn't come running to Eris lightly. They didn't care for people in the best of times. Or maybe they just didn't care for him. Same difference, really.[break][break]

"I've got a lot of strong Pokemon here tending to the woods. They can shadow us, without me needing to crack open any Pokeballs." When dealing with someone of Chu-e's caliber, any needed movement on his part could end up going poorly. Zephyrus, Ceres, Sectonia, and Dandori lurking in the shadows would give them a much needed ace in the hole.[break][break]

Unfortunately, while Isaac's presence was a boon in some ways, it could be a huge detriment in others. Chu-e was now beholden to Rocket once more, and that meant his treason wasn't something they could just gloss over. Sure, Chu-e didn't do anything about it when they stayed together, but Isaac wasn't on Rocket's most wanted list back then.[break][break]

A solemn nod of the head.[break][break]

Beyond Eris Halla being the only suitable bait, Prince did not have much more to add. Chu-e was a tough nut to crack. Body weak, but mind sharp and devious. A risky situation to pin them down, calm them down, subdue. A snarling snake ready to strike if pushed.[break][break]

Isaac Merlo was right, though.[break][break]

It was... dire. Enough to alarm the Gardevoir. Prince was a medical pokemon, not a fighter; his own training had sent him in a panic the last few weeks.[break][break]

It was brief touches. After the proverbial dam busted down by Isaac's own hand, Chu-e had slept a lot. Prince showed this with brief snatches, passing time of windows and suns changing and waning.[break][break]

Then the guilt.[break][break]

Then the apathy.[break][break]

Then the sinking darkness.[break][break]

More than once Prince had walked into a room to see Chu-e with a knife in hand, expression unreadable, studying the blade closely. Too closely. The one neat home in Sootopolis slowly being taken over with empty noodle cups. Food going to fetid sludge in the fridge.[break][break]

A scene emerges in the mind. Stark and sharp. Recent. Prince watches a scene on the couch from the doorway. He is not aware that Eris and Isaac might have some familiarity with howard slayte. Yet the one eyed man crowds the other.[break][break]

Chu-e's voice is warbled and strange as they speak, their face blocked by the other.[break][break]

"You said I should kill myself. But she's right. I'm too much of a coward. Do you want to do it for me?"[break][break]

A pause, breathless. Teasing. Desperate.[break][break]

"There's a lot of people who could call you a hero."[break][break]

Howard reaches out, grip tight on the other's throat.[break][break]

"Disgusting."[break][break]

The other man's voice grinds in the ear, indifferent, as he chokes out Chu-e.[break][break]

Chu-e's fingers come up in a curl, not to push the other away, but to pull him closer. To help the other kill him.[break][break]

"Pathetic. You actually wanted me to continue? Seriously? You're messed up."[break][break]

The scene ends as Howard pulls away, the pink of a blanket thrown over the other. Chu-e lays there. Not lifeless, just despondent. A doll with broken joints, unwilling to pull itself upwards.[break][break]

Prince lowers his gaze to the ground when the closes off that connection, the thread of worry lingering in the static.

The way howard slayte and her have found their paths intertwined by a strange twist of fate, the way he sheds his facade in the face of Chu-e begging for death.[break][break]

For a moment, she feels lost, uncertain. Glad that Howard had refused, angry over the insults he had spewed. Relieved over the way he had reacted in place of her, that he too had found it sickening. Worried over how much her words had stabbed Chu-e heart -[break][break]

A sudden calm washes over her, but perhaps, results in a seed of unease growing in her chest.[break][break]

"Don't do that." She murmurs, vaguely aware of the floaty touch suddenly upon her shoulders. And the pixie coos, slowly unravelling their hold on her heart as it all begins to trickle back in.[break][break]

"Do you think you could help?"[break][break]

Pinpricks and chills creep down the spines of all those present - Mesprit had never been a fan of dealing with shadow pokemon. The sensations intensify, the pixie grasping at Eris' cheeks to look her in the eye. And they effortlessly keep Reiner at bay, crippling him with discomfort that surges through his chest.[break][break]

"Please. I want to see him."[break][break]

Their expression remains unchanged, but after a brief moment of silence, they relent. Throwing up their hands and letting out the loudest sigh, Mesprit rolls their eyes as they lean back into thin air. On the other hand, Eris reaches over for Reiner, running her palms upon his back and giving him soothing pats.[break][break]

"Reiner and I will take Kurze on." She hesitates, her gaze mixed with a hint of guilt as she looks up to Isaac. "If you could help Mes settle Sparklefur...?"

Isaac hadn't known howard slayte for long, but what he did know speak volumes. He was a man whose brilliance was matched only by his stupidity. He disconnected and drifted through life less because he couldn't aspire to greater heights but more to protect himself. Their conversation on his boat had been as eye-opening as his conversation with Chu-e, fascinating glimpses into the man who dwelled beneath.[break][break]

Equally fascinating was the glimpse in where Chu-e had been. Isaac had hoped that, by freeing their mind, they would be able to take a stand. They would finally be able to put their life into their own hands. They both knew going into this that the procedure couldn't fix what had been done, but it could at least give them a chance at a fresh start.[break][break]

"I gave you your mind back, and this is what you do with it?" Venom bled through his voice, only to vanish as quickly as it came.[break][break]

"I should have been there." Guilt. Shame. Fear. Isaac's voice was heavy under the weight of what he had done and what he had tried to do. A month of his life dedicated to helping Chu-e's masterwork, and this is what the two of them had gotten in trade. It wasn't enough. "I should have done more, I should have helped fix this, I . . . I . . ."[break][break]

"I'm wherever you need me to be, sis." Truth be told, he wanted so badly to face this reckoning with the one he'd failed. After everything, he had to. But was that what Chu-e needed? Or was that what his own guilt demanded? For all his mistakes, this wasn't his fight. It wasn't about him. It never was. This was for Eris and Chu-e, first and foremost, always and forever.[break][break]

Perhaps his time would come later. For now, all he could do was support, as he always had and always would.[break][break]

Kurze sank into a fighting stance, his blade glimmering in the moonlight. The stewards of the Petalburg Woods lurked within the treeline, overseeing as they always had. Isaac, putting his trust in them as he always had, walked over to Eris one last time. He leaned down and pulled her into a tight, protective hug, hiding that slightest shake to his shoulders. "You're the bravest kid I've ever met, Eris. I'm proud of you."[break][break]

With that last promise made, he walked over to Mesprit's side. "Ready when you are, buddy."

Kurze is prepared to put his heart into the fight and Reiner is most definitely prepared to reciprocate. With a whistle, the Luxray roars, a Rising Voltage tearing through the earth and rushing right at the Kingambit.[break][break]
