CONTRARY TO ITS NAME, THE MAJORITY OF THE ULTRA DEEP SEA IS A VAST CAVE-LIKE WORLD. Shafts of light from an unknown source barely penetrate the dark, causing colorful diamond-like rocks to glisten against humid walls. The dim lighting makes the place seem like you're thousands of leagues under the sea... Eerily, an unceasing pulse can be heard like a heart beat that rumbles throughout the realm.[break][break]

Oddly enough, one is able to "swim" through this realm like Water-type Pokemon floating in air.[break][break]

One may stumble upon deep, cold pools of dark water and alien seaweed as they scout out the realm. Segments of this place open up into an astral sea, where islands of mysterious stone are suspended mid-air.

[attr="class","body"] This was not the sort of thing that Mila partook in. She had left her life behind, at least that part of her life. But she would have been lying if she had said she wasn't a little bit curious, especially after all the things that Gunner Graves had told him about his job and how things had been lately.

[break][break] She was most curious about that alternate world, the one that had been the reason that he'd ended up on her doorstep that day, almost an entirely different version of the person he used to be.

[break][break] But Mila didn't plan these things. She hadn't wanted it — the rift had merely opened up in front of her and fate had handled the rest.

[break][break] "Dolce!" she called sharply, chasing after the Fennekin into the rift, and then gasped when she was dropped onto rock and stone. The Fennekin looked around too, curiosity lighting his amber-eyed gaze — shafts of violet light glimmered like crystals behind his eyes as he spun around and observed everything around them.

[break][break] Mila, too, was without words. So much so that she would not have recognized anybody behind her unless they stabbed her in the back.

Whether she is here on Rocket business or personal business is anyone’s guess. Though it’s likely the latter while she would attest to the former if she were to be questioned later by a superior. Naturally curious (and enterprising,) Sidney seeks out one of these rifts that has been apparently plaguing the region.[break][break]
New to her relocation as she is, she hasn’t gone far or seen too many familiar faces. This suits her fine, it keeps her out of hot water– a thought that makes her laugh given the weird…ocean, but not vibe of this whole place.[break][break]
She had lifted a key from an allotment of resources for her fellows–found aboard the Rocket submarine before she skulked out of there and made her way to the rift in Dewford. The key fits nice and snug in her pocket, though she doesn’t know what it goes to exactly. Cursory skimming of reports mention a sunken ship, so perhaps that is what she needs to be looking for.[break][break]
The last thing she expects, though, is to find someone else out there in the murk. Even more so someone she recognizes and hardly expects to be in a place like this. The spectral glow of her hisuian zorua (perched on her shoulder,) hardly lights the space, but it still casts a pallid glow about her face and widened eyes.[break][break]
Not that Sidney Tsuda is one to give her surprise away.[break][break]
“Well well,” she drawls, arms folding as her mouth curls in a teasing smile at the sight of mila alexopoulos. It comes instinctively to her– habit of nostalgic memory. “Look at what the cat dragged in.”

[break][break] Mila whirls around, eyes wide at the sight of her.

[break][break] Just as she does so, her Hatterene appears behind her. It's DAZZLING GLEAM lighting the space around them, casting a glow on the singular path that leads to a ship at the end of the road.

If there was anyone she’d expected to see out here, near the sunken wreckage of an alien ship, it was definitely not mila alexopoulos. She knew Mila, and she knows that this isn’t the sort of thing the little spitfire enjoys.[break][break]
“I’m working, obviously,” she replies smoothly, the curl of an amused laugh mellowing her words into an entertained timbre. “I think the better question is what’re you doing here, Mila?”[break][break]
A hand lifts to scratch at her zorua’s chin, the little fox stretching her neck to accept the affection.[break][break]
The addition of the other’s hatterene only better lights the path—reminding the bounty hunter that she’s not here to dawdle. Her brow lifts at Mila, smile still crooked on her lips as she breezes by the younger woman to head for the ship.[break][break]
Not dwelling on what bad blood might linger between them, because in Sid’s mind, there was never any bad blood to begin with. But after a moment she pauses, looking back over her empty shoulder.[break][break]
“You coming?”

[break][break] "I don't have to tell you that," she said haughtily, determined not to give Sid any leverage. It'd been months since they last saw each other. And even though the mere sight of her sent her stomach twisting into funny knots, Mila was stubbornly insistent on keeping any distance between them that was remotely possible.

[break][break] She would be hurt again, just like last time. Anytime she cared — like with lykaios athanasia — she would be hurt.

[break][break] But she followed her deeper into the caverns anyway.

[break][break] She couldn't help herself from following sidney tsuda.

[break][break] "I'm coming!" Her feet led her across the uneven terrain, trying to ignore the thudding beat of her heart. 'It's just this fucking weird place,' she told herself. Definitely nothing to do with Sid.

[break][break] "What..." she said after a moment, sounding a little breathless. "What are you doing here anyway? In Hoenn?"

A brow lifts as Mila deflects the question. Sid isn’t sure if she’s trying to piss her off, or keep her from pressing with more questions. But Sidney doesn’t rise to the bait of pushing her luck. She shrugs, unbothered, and continues drifting toward the wreckage. “Suit yourself, Mila. Don’t tell me, then.”[break][break]
It isn’t any skin off her back.[break][break]
But of course Mila follows. Sid doesn’t expect any different, really. Not that it’s a knock –just what she’s come to expect from the other woman.[break][break]
“Huh?” she’s pulled from her fixation on the old ship. If there’s anything she’s learned in her line of work, it’s that it’s always better to avoid the main entrance. She floats away from the gaping hole in the prow to find another way in.[break][break]
Mischievous eyes turn back on her impromptu companion. “I told you, I’m here for work. Kalos got boring.” Shit’s wild here in Hoenn–or so she’s been told.

[attr="class","body"] The thing is, Mila wants to tell her. She always wants to tell her everything, and that's what caused this problem - their problem - in the first place. So Mila says nothing, just settles with the bittersweet taste of defeat in her mouth, even as she scurries along and follows the other woman down the path.

[break][break] They float in this mystifying sea, and Mila tries not to let the fear consume her as they float along the side of the ship. She's just here to explore. It's what she wanted when she came through that rift, but for some reason, she feels like she should be regretting the decision to come along at all.

[break][break] But she can't help but follow Sid. She just can't.

[break][break] At her words, Mila rolls her eyes.

[break][break] Of course, Kalos got boring. Everything got boring after a while, when you were sidney tsuda.

[break][break] 'You included,' a voice at the back of her mind needles, but she ignores it.

[break][break] "Well, Hoenn's definitely not that," she murmurs, glancing up as they find another opening in the ship and floats through it. Once again, her heart squeezes with paranoia — they're not going to find something terrible inside the ship, are they? Maybe they should head back. Maybe she should head back. "Hoenn's always full of crazy shit. It's why I left in the first place."

[break][break] From Rocket. From Gunner Graves. From everything.

[break][break] She's so distracted by her thoughts that she almost nearly doesn't notice the bleed in the water of endless teal-blue. Something shimmers in the distance, and she wonders if it's treasure.

Sidney isn't wholly oblivious to the effect she'd once had on Mila. Still has to some degree, apparently. It had always made things easier for Sid, in terms of getting her way. Not that she'd tried to take active advantage of the other woman.[break][break]
It just happened that way.[break][break]
And Sidney had never tried to be someone she wasn't. She'd never tried to make any pretense at being more. More affectionate, more doting, more present. She knew she was flighty. She'd never claimed to be otherwise.[break][break]
Their connection had run its course. It was simple as that, and she'd never read into it the way Mila had.[break][break]
Though that wasn't to say she hadn't enjoyed their relationship while they'd had one. She very much had. To insinuate otherwise would be a disservice to the very fun, very talented mila alexopoulos.[break][break]
"So I'm learning!" she chirps happily. To Sid, this is a lighthearted reunion, she's pleased to see Mila. "But you came back. So you must be just as drawn to it, still." She glances back, planning on teasing Mila for this particular habit of hers, only for her eyes to go wide with alarm.[break][break]
The tendril of loose blood drifting not far away. The flicker of a shadowy tailfin just beyond the other's shoulder. "Mila," she breathes, playfulness evaporating from her low tone. Her hand slowly inches toward a pokeball at her hip. "Get behind me. Now. Slowly."
