The Frozen Throne

Both teams were reduced to a single remaining Pokemon. Lam's Volcarona appeared to suffer the same "fate" as Hideo's Espurr, covered in an illusory ice that would shatter the moment it was recalled back into its Pokeball.

Merely an overdramatic illusion - the Volcarona would be fine, apart from being KO'd.

Which left the Indeedee to face off against the Zigzagoon. The Indeedee stared right at the Zigzagoon - which would key his opponent into the fact he was actually kinda tired, and didn't have much fight left in him. Even if his opponent was an unevolved Pokemon, he wasn't much of a fighter.

Case in point, his next attack: he aimed his hand forward, aiming a Psychic blast at the Zigzagoon. It blew the snowflakes in its path away, even making a trail in the snow that built up on the ground, going straight for his opponent.

But Hideo shook his head, sighing. He knew it was a futile attack against a Galarian Zigzagoon. "Not the best choice," he whispered under his breath.

The end was closing in. Or at least it seemed that way. His volcarona collected snow rapidly, the flurry dispelling in a swirling burst as Lam recalled it - despite the fact that he knew in reality, the fiery moth's wings would melt off the ice even while unconscious.[break][break]

Sure enough, though, it looked as though the bug-type was dissipating into a burst of snowfall.[break][break]

With the noise quelled, Jam Jam popped back up, tongue lolling and tail swishing. "Hold down the fort, buddy! It's all you now!" The zigzagoon looked back at Lam and yipped his assent. Round eyes honed back in on the indeedee, blinking curiously.[break][break]

In honesty, the lil guy was more interested in playing with his opponent, but he had work to do! Snow flared up around him as the PSYCHIC attack flew his way, but it did little to take hold.[break][break]

Jam Jam's head canted to the side sharply, confused. Then he shook out his coat, scattering more snowflakes. Jaws opening up, he spewed another nasty GUNK SHOT right back at his opponent before proceeding to become enamored with his own tail, and chasing it.

The Frozen Throne

Just as Hideo expected, the Psychic attacked fail to do anything against the Galarian Zigzagoon. It was a mistake the Indeedee only realized after the attack finished - and by then, it was too late for it to correct its mistake.

The Gunk Shot flew towards the Indeedee in a fabulous arc. Snowflakes parted out of its way, providing no (illusory) resistance as it landed straight on the Indeedee's face, exploding in a mess of gunk. The Indeedee went down like a toppled snowman, and just as the two Pokemon before it, its body was covered in ice.

The shattering that followed signaled the end of their battle. "The snow claims its final victim," Hideo said, a smile on his face. "And the throne awaits its Ruler…at least, it would if it were real." The Illusion around them dissipated, bringing them back to reality.

"Good job, Lam!" Hideo said, a few of the psychic Pokemon maintaining the illusion approaching him. He handed his Pokemons' Pokeballs over to one of them, a fairy-type approaching the Galarian Zigzagoon to throw a Heal Pulse its way.

"Your team did well too! Victory is yours today - though before I give you your badge: was there anything you would have wanted to do differently in this battle, now that you've reached its conclusion?"

“Nice shot, buddy!” As hoped, the noxious goop landed and spattered against the Indeedee’s fur. There was a little guilt, if only because it’d probably be a pain to clean off both psychic Pokémon later, but instead of mentioning as much, Lam stooped down to receive the excitable Jam Jam with open arms as he turned and darted back with that funny, crooked run of his.[break][break]
He grinned, scooping up the zigzagoon and holding him aloft with both hands for a moment as his fuzzy body wiggled in excitement.[break][break]
Then Lam tucked him in his arms and moved forward to meet Hideo in the middle. “Thanks! You did great too.” Definitely a fun challenge for the books. Tired from the match, Jam Jam lazed contentedly in the fold of Lam’s arm as he scratched at the lil guy’s ears.[break][break]
The question gave him pause, and his head tilted in consideration. “Hmmm, I’m not sure! There's always room for improvement—maybe used a partner for this guy that he’s more used to working with.” Jam Jam himself was clearly unbothered, nibbling at Lam’s fingers playfully.[break][break]
“No way to change what’s already happened, though, y’know?” Que cera cera, and all that, right? The only thing to do would be to take what he learned and improve as they continued on.
