the roar of an engine slowly trickled into mar's conscious awareness, as she had been very focused on giving capsakid a pep talk. in fact, it's the grass type who informs her that there's someone coming. she moved to the edge of her shipam and takes out a nautical telescope, watching the official-looking men approach.

ah. they are not friends, she determined quickly.

mar whistled, stopping skrelp and clobbopus from pursuing kyogre with the neck in their mouth and tentacle respectively. "knock 'em off course," mar shouted; skrelp shot a sludge bomb on the ship, a slower attack with a gorgeous arc in the sky. clobbopus had less tactical options and swam to the ship directly, hoping to climb aboard if the ship get close enough for such a maneuver.

mar stabilized herself as the wailord displaced water and rocked her boat. "skrelp, make 'em act right!" the seahorse generated a smokescreen while bombirdier came down to strike clobbopus, creating a visual disturbance to give clobbopus the opportunity to duck away. capsakid tugged on her leg, but mar tsk'd instead. "don't want ye to fight this guy when yer slated to fight the big man."

she turned to the do-gooder with a sneer. "aye, kyogre doesn't need yer help. and he belongs to the seas, which means he belongs to me." she jabbed a thumb to her chest, then drew her cutlass and aimed it right at him. "ye'd do right to turn 'round the way ye came." with the smokescreen in place, skrelp swam over to the smaller boat, generating a hydro pump to knock the boat away or flip it.

mar snickered as she imagined the men must be stressed, but her amusement was short lived as an origin pulse shot out. she held tight to the edge of her boat as the origin pulse aggressively struck it, though she knocked her head against the rail and immediately cut open her forehead. her boat tipped sideways but didn't capsize. damn it; dhelmise's weight might actually work against her if the seas continued to cut up so aggressively.

she withdrew dhelmise with its pokeball, letting her boat maneuver normally. the boat took on some water in the angry waters, but mar had to take what she could get. the wailord needed to be taken out so she could attack his boat more directly. she was confident kyogre would break their ship before hers, though hers was traditional and wooden and might already have some cracks below from the origin pulse... she needed to get rid of them quickly.

she tossed the pokeball above the wailord by his tail, releasing the heavy twelve-foot dhelmise which used slam on wailord. with how rugged the waves were, she could get rid of the hbic goon and his sailor buddy and their bodies would be miles and miles away from here before getting found. the ocean would likely bury them. "clob, go an get em!" clobbopus dutifully traveled under the water to get to the boat, though he was slowed by the harsh waves. "we'll show 'em who runs the seas." mar laughed, though her capsakid remained worried as ever by her side.

with wailord ducking under, mar caught the way the bombirdier's attack made dhelmise shake as it hit the surface of the ocean and sunk after the wailord, though it clearly was on the edge of its capacity. dhelmise was strong, but it did not often experience battle, and mar couldn't sacrifice losing dhelmise to the fight -- it'd force her to leave her ship at an actual port rather than wherever she wished, which brought scrutiny she couldn't afford as a routine trafficker.

she used the return function on dhelmise's pokeball, bringing the injured ghost type back just before the kyogre body slammed wherehad been floating underwater above wailord. the crash between the two giant pokemon brought a huge wall of water onto mar's boat, soaking her instantly. capsakid cried out in unpleasant surprise, and things became crystal clear: kyogre was far too enraged to be good quarry. even if she could defeat the government agent, her pokemon were not strong enough to fight an angered god into submission within her net.

mar whistled loud and clear.

clobbopus stopped his planned assault on the sailor, turning around to seek refuge at mar's boat. skrelp was already getting the hell out of dodge when the kyogre slammed wailord, already beside the boat and ready for mar. "use yer pump on the boat to get us out of here quickly," she explained, her kalosian accent burying some of the sounds as her panic grew. she returned clobbopus and picked up capsakid, soothing the sopping-wet grass type as skrelp readied a hydro pump to push her boat back to the coast.

mar let capsakid climb to sit on her shoulders, pulling out a nautical telescope to get a good look at the agent in question. she wanted to remember who screwed her over. kyogre was her prize, but she would have to return at a better time. and perhaps with a larger team of pokemon for such an ambitious heist.
