He'd been in Howard's shoes, and a combination of backbreaking work and countless strokes of luck left him in a far more comfortable position. The least he could do was help cut the guy a break.[break][break] With how scatterbrained he was, he might not have even noticed the change-up.[break][break] Then again, for someone so scatterbrained, he was also weirdly profound. Not many people waxed lyrical about how all men were but puppets atop a string, slaves to many masters, while standing in line at a Burger Kingler.[break][break] Maybe he was right. Isaac knew all too well how often factors outside his control grabbed him by the throat. If he was the sole master of his own fate, leaving Rocket would have been far less of an odyssey. However, to simply accept it was to act like he had no control, no agency, no choice. That he refused to believe.[break][break] "You've got a point. But do they do it like chains? Or is it more like ripples in a pond?" Isaac looked Howard up and down, as if trying to gauge his reaction. Was he the type to skirt the waters of his life, or had he already surrendered to a prison of his own making? From how he spoke, almost enraptured, as his eye widened in shock, Isaac figured he may have had some ideas.[break][break] "Do you? Shame." If Howard tried to squeeze past Isaac, he'd realize those broad shoulders weren't just for show. For such a short guy, he could be a wall when he wanted to be. "You had me wondering just what was consuming you."[break][break] Were Howard to try squeezing by again, Isaac would let him pass without issue. He wasn't here to hold the guy hostage. Just to make him think. However, if that last thought was too tantalizing for Howard to resist, Isaac sure wouldn't be opposed to hearing those last, fleeting thoughts.[break][break] After that, they would be free to go their separate ways.
