Finally, the fighting was over. Yet Noel felt as if the war never left him. Visions of the battles that had taken place on those islands flash throughout his mind every so often. Blood pooling from the Pokemon he swore to protect. His body broken and left defeated time and time again, almost even losing an arm at one point. Was this really the extent to his strength? Was he so weak that he couldn't even save one of those that had fallen?[break][break]

Sitting on a bench in his hometown, his gaze never left the ground beneath him. His body leaned forward with his hands placed on his arms, it was as if his soul was sucked away from his body. He had no sense of time, no sense of where he was. He didn't even know how long he had been sitting there, but none of that mattered. He didn't even have the willpower to even stand up. Noel simply sat there, wallowing in his self-hate, until something, anything, happened.

[break][break] ollie looked just as worn as the trainer, his arm was wrapped in bandages from his battle with Cillian Quinn, but it was his face — normally bright, cheerful and full of sunshine — that was probably the most shocking. grief lingered on his expression, still, even as he tried to be strong for his friend.

[break][break] the head ranger walked around the bench, sliding down into it.

Noel didn't even know where to start. As he grabbed the soft drink from his friend, his eyes trailed back downwards towards the ground. His body had been ravaged from the tides of war during the battles between League and Rocket on the nearby islands. Underneath his clothes were bandages wrapped all throughout his entire body, his left arm was in a cast, a mark from his battle against jayden cross. The doctors told him it was a miracle they were able to recover what was left of his body after that bloodbath.[break][break]

He turns to face his friend Ollie, who had been there time and time again for him. His eyes were full of sorrow as if he had lost all the spark that he had in his heart, his hands trembled at the mere thought of what occurred back on those islands.[break][break]

"I just... I didn't think this was how things were going to go. Is it always like this Ollie? Is this something that I... have to get used to?"[break][break]

[break][break] even a year in hoenn hadn't prepared him for the turn of events that seemed to always be constantly changing.

Was that enough? Simply having allies wouldn't mean this wouldn't happen again. No matter how strong you were, how many people were by your side, things could always take a turn for the worst. And the more friends you had, the more danger you could bring them into with this line of work. Staying silent for a moment, Noel couldn't figure out if he wanted to respond to Ollie's question or not.[break][break]

"I just... I don't know... When I became a trainer and joined the League, I didn't think this was what would happen. Maybe I'm not cut out for this if this is going to happen again. I can't bear to see all those people, all those Pokemon hurt like that. Some of them I'm never going to see again..."[break][break]

His empty eyes stare continuously into the sand beneath them. He could still see the pool of blood mixing together with the grains of the beach where his Frogadier laid dead and gone. His biggest regret was not being able to recover its body, being unable to send it off without so much as a goodbye.

Ollie was right. If his Frogadier saw him now, it surely would be disappointed in the usually bright trainer. To mope around and do nothing about the Rockets who led him here in the first place was ill befitting of an aspiring champion.[break][break]

Feeling a hand scuffle around in his hair, he looks back to the head ranger and wipes away the tears from the corner of his eyes. Of course, he would never be alone in his endeavors. With friends like Ollie by his side, they could fight through all the pain and hardship that would entail. If one of them were to go down, the other would be there to pick them back up.[break][break]

"Yeah... they'd smack some sense into me if they were here..."[break][break]

He then rises from his seat and stands now above his companion, facing the distant sea that reflected its azure surface onto Noel's eyes.[break][break]

"But there's one thing I won't accept Ollie. I won't let it happen again. I was too weak this time, I underestimated the lengths that Rocket would go to attain victory and I won't slip up next time. No one should have to die, I'll make sure of it."

[break][break] 'i used to think that too. but things aren't always so easy,' he thought bitterly, a memory from mt.pyre resurfacing but he stamped it down.

[break][break] "you're gonna make sure of it, huh." his brow arches before his lips flash into a grin. "guess that'll make two of us. we'll work together, you and i, so no one has to hurt like this again."

Noel returns the gesture with a smile now flashing across his face. Their fists hold onto each other for a moment as if to solidify their bond.[break][break]

Ollie had it right. Neither of them were alone. By themselves it would be difficult to accomplish anything; but together, they could take on anything that came across their way.[break][break]

"I'm sorry for the way I was acting before. I feel so stupid now but I swear never to fall like that ever again. With you by my side, I feel a lot more confident."[break][break]

He'd show his worth to the world. One day, no matter how long it took, he'd prove to everyone just how capable he could be. His adventure had only just begun, and he wasn't about to let something like this stop him. With the help of his friends, he'll be able to help save Hoenn from disaster.[break][break]

"Come on. I owe you for all the help you've given to me. How about we grab some drinks nearby? They're on me."
