Ultra Megalopolis - Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

A RUINED CITY IN ULTRA SPACE. It is unclear whether this is a different universe's Ultra Megalopolis or smaller colony. Regardless, it is a dark city with intermittent sections of flickering, artificial light... Large, black prism-like skyscrapers loom above flat black streets. Much ruin has fallen here, but you get the sense that you're not alone...

37 access floors 11-20. there, discover more hostile megalopolans and/or smaller ultra beasts. there are also rooms that feature defunct z-crystals in machines. presumably, they were used to help create artificial light and energy. lastly, there is a note that reads in megalopolan script: "ultra megalopolis has also fallen. there is no hope for us now. we are ruined."
38 explore an underground settlement beneath the city, found within its sewers/basements/crawl spaces, etc. friendly megalopolans exist there who will remain as neutral parties to the league or to team rocket trainers. within the settlement, there is an alarm system that is activated when ultra wormholes open or when a large ultra beast or threat (dynamax sized guzzlords, solgaleos/lunalas, necrozma, other legendaries or mythicals, etc.) is nearby.
39 encounter a SHINY TAPU BULU that is either hostile to you during a rampage (for it is frustrated it can not grow vegetation here) or a temporary ally. it rings its bell to warn those who are nearby of its presence.
40 encounter tampered z-crystals that are still active. using these z-crystals by crushing them will allow a chosen pokemon to temporarily assume a state similar to TOTEM POKEMON.
🗺️ utilize a z-move in an advantageous way.
🗺️ IRON BARKTONGUE can be used to distract or feed hostile megalopolans or ultra beasts. the mushroom can also be used defensively as a physical adornment or through consumption. in the latter case, a pokemon or human who eats it may find their constitution to be more hardy.
🗺️ MYSTERIOUS TREASURE can be used to access rooms/buildings/construction sites that suggest that there was an large altar in the process of being created. however, it appears that this altar was unable to be completed.

kyle leans down on a patch of mushrooms growing at the side of a wall. it's the first sign of flora they see in the desolate land.

he picks it up and brings it close to his silvally, testing if it somehow has it recognized within its coding. instead of simply taking a whiff, it immediately consumes the thing, taking kyle by surprise.

"oi! if you die, i'll need to-"

a differently colored tapu bulu rushes in, throwing the silvally away. the sudden show of aggression causes kyle to quickly take a few steps back, turning to MATIAS SILPH with a shout.

"a little help please!"

having faced multiple tapu deities before, matias approaches this one no differently than he would any other foe. his kubfu is quick to close the distance, maneuvering in the enclosed space to throw an AERIAL ACE that slashes at TAPU BULU.[break][break]

"what? no! if it's here, then it means it beats up ultra beasts for us too."

his silvally flame charges forward, trampling over debris and litter in its wake. coincidentally, its foot manages to crush a z-crystal that gives it enough energy to grow in size.

despite the tapu bulu's effort to throw the silvally away with a horn leech, the combination of the new power up and the effects of the mysterious fungi it ingested causes it to easily shrug the attack off.

"can you just split us up from it instead? i think i can see the elevator for the next floors from here."

surely, it won't chase after them once they're away from its territory, if it counts the current floor they're at as one.

40 encounter tampered z-crystals that are still active. using these z-crystals by crushing them will allow a chosen pokemon to temporarily assume a state similar to TOTEM POKEMON.

then comes the question of whether or not they should kill it as it may later on work against them. he thinks of fern delaney and their tapu deity, how it looks different, and how it had aligned itself with rocket as well.[break][break]

briefly, he wonders if this tapu deity is from the same universe. his thoughts quickly shift in accordance with kyle lopez's suggestion. he nods, then orders his kubfu to do the same.[break][break]

with one strong IRON HEAD, the kubfu manages to sneak in close and ram the tapu bulu out of the building, sending it crashing through the glass window and out into the open.[break][break]

"let's go."[break][break]

to the lifts, to the higher floors, and to further discovery.

"yeah. it probably got something to do with the megalopolan's shiny machine thing." he doesn't know the science behind it, but connections were there. still, it's not difficult to ignore the thing given their situation.

he doubts matias cares anyways.

"let's go!"

as soon as the tapu bulu is out of the picture, they ride an elevator up to the higher floors.

the elevator they used led to a dark corridors. kyle takes out his phone to light up the way, stumbling across a room of interest when his foot manages to kick a defunct z-crystal.

"matias, can you try using a z-move?" he asks the volatile. "nothing dangerous, you know. just something that gets that z-move energy, or whatever they call it, in this thing."

they have seen the likes of it on the lower floors. presumably, it's an energy generator for lights.

kyle lopez comes up with a suggestion, and as usual, matias is down to follow.[break][break]

"i don't have a z-move that isn't dangerous."[break][break]

but he supposes they can improvise and scale it back a little. he takes out a pokeball and swaps his kubfu out for a kangaskhan. after sharing brief orders with the normal-type, he takes a step back and watches it get to work.[break][break]

kangaskhan's Z-MOVE activates as it throws an ICE PUNCH at the defunct z-crystal.[break][break]

the room lights up. everything else is revealed to them.

there, they see a message that reads an ominous text often depicted in media whose setting was influenced by a post-apocalyptic world. in a sense, lesser megalopolis was considered as one.

"wait, this is cool. i've only seen things like this on left4dead!" he snaps a picture. "do you think-?"

he turns to matias, and notices ultra beasts come out of their hiding places after being seemingly attracted to what they have done. his silvally growls and easily swats away one with a multi-strike.

the problem they face is that there's a swarm.

kyle clicks his tongue as he inadvertently causes the unnecessary encounter with the ultra beasts, more so when some of them start doing their cries, summoning a wormhole for others to enter.

a whisper comes from one of the loose tiles. a megalopolan lifts it up and invites them in before dipping back.

"s-should we?" he asks matias, ready to recall his silvally for a quick getaway. he would have followed in a heartbeat, mostly to sate his curiosity, but he knows well how uncomfortable matias could be in trusting megalopolans with their shared history of war.

things are easier when they are black and white, but every now and then there are outliers who don't fall into either side, sitting in the grey where it is most dangerous. when he looks at the megalopolan lifting the tile, inviting them to a quick and easy escape, the grey is presented, and with it, uncertainty.[break][break]

he looks at kyle lopez, forming his response based on what he thinks the top champion would want most.[break][break]

"i don't see why not."[break][break]

the softest of smiles is offered as he takes a step closer.[break][break]

"but be careful."[break][break]

trusting kyle, they follow after the megalopolan, descending into darkness.

the easy way out of the situation hits hard when kyle hears the blaring alarms of the bunker.

the one that brought them in explains the situation and invites them to stay until the alarms die off before heading to a corridor from the bunker to arm himself up to join the rest of his friends.

kyle observes soldiers taking up arms and stationing themselves on possible entries, including the one they came in from, but what surprises kyle more is the fact that they were survivors.

"this might sound weird, but i'm getting goosebumps," he whispers to matias. "it's like, i dunno, something straight out of fiction."

which wasn't much nowadays with the wreck hoenn faces each year.

a few megalopolans pass them, but didn't seem to pay much attention to them outside of a few glances. the stare of people who have given up reflects on their eyes, however.

kyle wanders around as megalopolans fight off intruders, until they reach the end of a tunnel. a mechanism blocks the entry, with a conveniently shaped pattern that matches with a mysterious treasure they found on the earlier floors.

the treasure in his bag lights up, and the door opens, revealing an altar with a familiar symbol engraved in various structures.
