With Josh so close to the title of Champion, a battle tournament would be a great way to get the Master of Faster prepared for his title match with KYLE LOPEZ. His regulars would be watching from the lounge on the second floor of Mauville Gym, following the action and watching feature matches their Leader was involved in.

The sheer efficiency that the tournament's healing machines operated at was a marvel of the event: they worked faster than ones at most Pokémon Centers, making sure the Pokémon were all in top shape for each round. This was going to be a long day: battle after battle. With them being only one Pokémon per side, at the very least they would be quick. As Josh was sipping on a bottle of water, an announcement blared over the venue's loudspeakers:

"Attention all Vital City Tournament participants. Pairings are up for round five. Pairings are up for round five."

Pulling up the list on his phone, he scrolled down to his name and found his opponent and his assigned arena number. That opponent was seiichi yukimura .

Josh took his place on his assigned side of the battleground. Next to him was Raikiri, the Zeraora he was known for. It seemed he wasn't fooling around; he was in it to win the whole tournament. "Hi there! Gym Leader Devlin or Elite Ranger Devlin, but please, call me Josh," he introduced himself. "Good luck, and may the best trainer win."

today was going to be really busy.

not a bad busy, because so far the battles had been short enough to not get overwhelmed and sprinkles, despite haven not really fought this much before, seemed just as excited as the next pokemon. if elodie was right, she was sure that her milotic wanted the battles to last longer.

there wasn't much she could do there, but, when the fifth matchups were announced, she didn't hesitate this time, making her way to the assigned room.

the man on the other side had a zeraora, and for a second elodie's thoughts of battle are gone; there's so much she wants to ask about training one. what were the setbacks? what was it like? did they care for having their fur dyed, because if she ever got her hands on one they'd have to get used to it like her other two pokemon had.

the introduction is more than enough to pull her from it. "it's nice to meet you. i'm elodie, and this is-" sprinkles had, in between the introductions, already begun to move forward, towards the center of the arena.

it seemed like the milotic herself had decided the introductions were taking too long.

Milotic were tough. He knew exactly how tough from raising Megalo; that rainbow-colored serpent was one tough aquatic Pokémon. Elodie's seemed impatient, too, much like many of his own Pokémon trained to move at speeds that tested the limits of the species as a whole. Raikiri was Josh's very fastest land Pokémon. It would take extraordinary eyesight to even keep up with his moves, let alone react to them.

The mythical thundercat would show the Milotic no quarter, bounding toward the serpent. While it would be impossible for him to pin down the entire body of such a large creature, he could disable the most dangerous portion of its body: the tail. To attempt faking out the foe, he ran toward its midsection first before swerving toward the tail, relentless in his flurry of PLASHA PAWS looking like a predator mauling its prey.

the yellow pokemon elodie's opponent had was fast.

from the second it started moving, elodie wasn't sure she could even keep track of where it was. one second, it seemed like it was there, and the next it seemed like it wasn't. as she watches, she swears she could see it heading towards sprinkles' midsection, but then it's gone again, heading towards the water type pokemon's tail.

just as it starts to lunge, sprinkles flings her tail out with a viciousness elodie hasn't seen in the water type before- the aqua tail reminds her of something she'd see in a storm- or a video of one- and all that weight is aimed directly towards the little yellow pokemon.

Sprinkles' AQUA TAIL flung Raikiri about like a whip, swishing back and forth in a desperate effort to dislodge him. Were the Zeraora trained like most of his kind, he would have been able to grasp the tail with his front paws. Josh's, though, was special, instead moving on all fours like a feral cat. With a powerful flick, the Milotic wrenched him off, sending him sliding all the way across the arena and nearly out of bounds.

Shaking his fur clean of the heavy water that would slow him down, Raikiri purred loudly and menacingly. He circled the arena with blinding speed before flinging several ELECTRO BALLS toward his foe at an arrhythmic rate that may have looked like spam to the untrained eye.

the yellow pokemon is fast- but somehow, elodie's own pokemon seems to be faster. the milotic responds to the lunge in kind, knocking the zeraora away and almost out of bounds. it's the first time since the battle elodie's been able to get a good look at it- and even then, it's only for a second before it's moving again, faster than she can even think of keeping track with.

she's pretty sure she sees it, once, running around the arena and past her, but it's gone before she can even process that it had passed. sprinkles is surprisingly still, save for the movement of her head- she's trying to keep track of the yellow blur, and, from where elodie's standing, the milotic is doing a better job at it than her trainer.

that doesn't mean she's used to it, though, and the electro balls are thrown too fast- the milotic is left with only a last-minute marvel scale to try protecting herself from the brunt of the attacks.[break][break]
