[break][break] It's that guy he'd met when he'd been doing work in Fallarbor Town, just after he'd been visiting willow atkins and boruta maher. The Ranger efforts to try to de-pollute the river was going well, but not perfect. There was still a lot that needed to be done.

[break][break] "I didn't know you were a trainer," he said, walking across the battle field and offering his hand out to shake. The Vital City Tournament was one hosted in their very own lam logan's city, so Ollie couldn't not waste the opportunity to partake. Even if he wasn't really that much of a battler himself. "Tofu, you remember him? This is Roy."

Startled by the ranger's remark, Roy could only flinch. He didn't like being recognized, especially by someone with a higher rank within the league. It felt too risky. Getting in-trouble felt easier for some reason. Regardless, it was nice to see a familiar face, at least somewhat.

"Yeah, it's me."

In defiance of his current goals, Roy was a regular competitor during his stay in Unova. While most of his battles were on various streets and alleyways, he was inspired to become a Gym Leader at that point in his life.

"I do what I can," he said as he shook the ranger's hand. From the end of his other arm, a tendril of light lashes out from his pocket and invokes an orange-colored dragon to the arena. Neither Roy nor his dragon were interested in pleasantries. "Balmung is ready to go."

The dragon cocked its head back, unleashing a roar in the process. Combat initiated.

Popping knuckles with another fist, Roy shifted across to the arena to his place on the battlefield. Balmung only walked a short distance to his own.

Tofu was quick to start the battle. The trainer masked his surprise with another grin and then made note of his opponent's background. This was the head ranger, after all.

"Take him down."

His words are loud enough for his opponent to hear, but they're meant for Balmung. Before the trainer could finish his order, the dragon was already on the move. Using his wings to maneuver through the lightning, the charizard launched an attack of his own in the form of an air-assisted punch.

[break][break] Ollie's eyes widened as he watched the dragon take to the air, expertly dodging the sparks of electricity that fly through the air. It curves against the Charizard's wings, before a punch soars through the air towards Tofu.

[break][break] Ollie's shout comes just in time, and the Pikachu leaps into the air. Electricity sparks between Tofu's cheeks, cutely, before he leaps atop that fist that comes arcing for him. He sinks his tiny teeth into the fist, holding on for dear life.

Balmung didn't expect the response.

Tofu's fangs effectively latch onto the dragon's fist and a burst of lightning is fired up the arm. The fire-type attempts to yank his claws free, but he isn't successful. The pikachu's teeth are far too deep.

"Let's take it up a notch."

A rainbow-colored stone taken from Roy's pocket is revealed as a solution. A sudden transformation sequence turns the dragon black instead of orange and blue flames are expelled from its mouth. Again, the charizard covers the same hand in the same aura, but this time it's enhanced by infinity energy. An unexpected jab towards the arena floor reveals Balmung's intention behind the attack. If Tofu doesn't break free, he'll be stuck between a fist and a hard place.

[break][break] Roy Aker may be the stronger battler, or at least Ollie assumes, but that doesn't mean they're willing to give up so easily. When the fist sails towards the ground, Tofu haphazardly lets go. He crumbles against the ground, rolling to the side, just to avoid being crushed beneath the power of a infinity-energy infused fist, feeling the earth fissure with the power of a crater formed.

Reflecting the light of the blast, Roy's eyes probe the battlefield for his next move. Balmung could only hold this form short term. If they were going to win this thing, they needed to be smart about how they used it.

"Don't give him a chance to fight back."

The dragon is already on the move once the punch misses. Using his wings to pivot, Balmung shifts his body towards his opponent's. This time, he decides to engulf his entire body in the entire draconic aura. This new azure-colored flame converts the dragon into an unstoppable missile.

Balmung used Outrage.

[break][break] "Tofu," he shouts, hopefully in time. "Get out of the way!"

[break][break] There's an urgency in his voice that is not usually equipped with his easygoing, cheerful demeanor. It causes Tofu to jerk away, rolling just in time to get flattened by that torrent of vicious flame. He breathes hard, squeezing his body against the floor, just as Ollie raises his arm. DYNAMAX energy is suddenly triggered, wisps of light surging from his band and then towards his partner, which causes the electric-type to triple in size.

[break][break] Accompanied by a roar, the arena explodes with the pikachu's G-VOLT CRASH!

Again, Balmung misses his attack, but only barely. Exhaustion is finally taking its toll. Both the ranger and his rodent are trying to run the dragon down until he's out of steam, but he wouldn't give up that easily.

"Get out of there!"

Before Balmung is able to fire off another blow, the pikachu gigantifies. After a loud roar, an electricity-based explosion erupts over the arena. The dragon is unable to escape it. The eruption of sparks is immediately replaced by smoke, blinding Roy from his partner pokemon. The trainer uses an arm to protect his eyes but shifts it down as soon as the smoke settles.

Fortunately, Balmung is still standing.

"Don't go down without a fight."

Despite returning to his original form, Roy's words empower Balmung. Similar to the full body flame before, Balmung coats his body in a raging fire. This time it matches his tail instead of being blue. He takes to the skies and then pitches himself like a meteor towards his opponent.

[attr="class","textbody"] The size of Tofu as big as a legendary beast will never fail to make Ollie stare in awe. Especially when he thinks about how small Tofu usually is.

[break][break] Electricity closes in on the Charizard as Tofu lets out a cry, an explosion of blinding light and shocks riddle the air before the fire-type can flee. But there was a shortcoming that came with being so big; even though it made him stronger, it made him a standing target. When their opponent is consumed in flame, Tofu has no choice but to take the attack as ember and fire crashes against him, scorching his body in burns.

At this point in the battle, Roy is without any tricks. It's just his dragon that's left. There's no gimmicks and no special advantages. If he wants to win, he'll half to prioritize brute force.

"He's pretty strong." He starts a conversation with his opponent across the arena. "But he's no match for Balmung."

Relying on the strength of his wings, the charizard skims across the arena to avoid the giant geyser of water. Bits of water and debris make contact with the dragon's wings in the process, but this does not slow him down. He uses his snout to direct the rest of his body into the shape of a loop. This trick increases his flight path which in turn, empowers his overall momentum. With another fist engulfed in a blue flame, the dragon unleashes a jab into the gigantamax pokemon's gut.

Balmung used Dragon Hammer.

[attr="class","textbody"] No match is right. The minute the DRAGON HAMMER sinks through the air, a fist encased in bright blue flame, the battle ends. The giant Pikachu leans backwards like a falling tower as he returns to his normal size, fainted as he falls into his trainer's waiting arms.

Like his charizard against his pikachu, Roy attempts to battle against the ranger's infectious aura, but he fails. He's far too kind and fair. Calling him nice would be an understatement. Even if the trainer didn't always agree with the league and their motives, this directly correlate to his feelings and experience with Ollie. Both his morals and character were made clear with how he handled the end of this battle.

"We almost lost to you and Tofu."

Roy attempts to compliment the man before him. The pikachu was a worthy contender.

"You too."

Both a fist and a grin are returned to the ranger. This was the perfect send off to a magical battle.
