Silence stretches. Cillian fears to break it, worried that the wrong move might break whatever uneasy peace has settled between them. It's the most they've talked since the argument, and he can't bear the thought of driving her away again.

He's flooded with equal anxiety and relief when she breaks it, first; once the question is processed, anxiety wins out.

"Oh, um." Arceus, how was he supposed to navigate this? Did he tell the truth? That he'd been devastated and panicked, then furious and heartbroken when they'd come back safe only for her to ghost him? Did he lie, and risk her seeing through it? His throat feels tight, his tongue thick in his mouth. Regardless of his response, now, she'll have glimpsed that momentary discomfort.

"I think it's strange that it attacked you. I thought it was meant to be..." He feels almost silly as he says, "Friendlier?" He shrugs, shakes his head. "Do you think it has something to do with Darkrai?"

They were sometimes depicted as opposing forces, weren't they? Darkrai wasn't with Lulu any more, but it had left its mark on her in sleepless nights. Could Cresselia sense that? Did it know? Or was this something else entirely?

she might not have asked about him, but she’d asked what he thought because, of course, she wanted to know, as ever she had, was he proud? it still mattered, even after everything on the island.[break][break]

unfortunately, there was little of that validation to be found in her brother’s anxious expression. fair enough, considering what she’d put him through.[break][break]

her eyes fell to the floor at his question because that was even worse. not only could she feel no pride from him, but she was reminded that she had lost what had once made them equals.[break][break]

”i don’t know. maybe.” she shook her head and looked just to the side of him, doing her best to conceal the pain in her gaze. ”probably? unless it has anything to do with all the trying to simulate the dream world, or… maybe it’s just territorial. hard to say.”

Not missing the way her gaze drops from his at the mention of Darkrai, Cillian winces. It was a difficult subject to navigate. He could only imagine the void he'd be left with if Lugia were to withdraw her blessing... yet they could hardly ignore the potential link between the two.[break][break]

Still, he says, "I'm sorry."[break][break]

She'd left, but she didn't deserve the pain it has caused her. He didn't wish it upon her, not even in his most bitter of reflections.[break][break]

"Do you intend to seek it out again?" With her spacecraft, Lulu was one of Rocket's best chances to conduct surveillance on things beyond their planet. Darkrai could rescind its blessing, Walsh could strip her of her rank, but no one could take away her brilliance. "I wonder if Deoxys and Cresselia have any knowledge of each other."[break][break]

Her sharpness of tone serves only to remind Cillian that the chasm between them has not yet been bridged. She's still angry. Perhaps she always would be. He'd need to accept that, if he wanted to stay close enough to keep her safe.[break][break]

So he doesn't push it, doesn't get defensive or apologize again. He just averts his gaze, uncomfortable, and lets her resentment flow.[break][break]

His gaze returns when she affirms her intent to seek Cresselia again. His lips part, halfway to forming a caution, 'Be careful', but he stops himself when he thinks that might only upset her further.[break][break]

Arceus, he doesn't know how to navigate this.[break][break]

He had more thoughts. Many of them, dancing through his mind in chaotic whirlwind. But her body language is projecting a desire to be rid of his presence, and what good is there in keeping her here when she didn't want to be?[break][break]

So he shakes his head, says only, "Let me know, when you do."
