The Vital City Tournament is a blood-pumping event that’s for certain. It felt very similar to the intense competitive spirit that the Galar region is infamous for. A trait Toshiaki embodies deeply. Toshiaki grins, gloved hand on his Hisuian Arcanine’s back as it swiftly makes her way onto the battlefield. [break][break]

“Yeah! Lots of people call me Toshi, go for it!” The young man grins. Arcanine makes her way to the battlefield while Toshiaki psyches himself up for the match. In, out, his fingers flex against his combat gloves as he lets out a deep breath. Here he’s allowed to shine, no longer forced to hide in the shadows as he had in old regions prior.[break][break]
He’d be a fool not to capitalize on this chance, to make his name known throughout all of Hoenn.[break][break]
“Osu! Let’s hit em’ hard and give em' a show, Topaz!”[break][break]
Within seconds of the match starting, Arcanine gleams with Terastal energy and what seems to be electricity. Pikachu kicks at her side with more power than she anticipated. Though, her recovery is quick. Opening its maw wide, sharp fangs glisten as she moves to CRUNCH onto the electric rodent.[break][break]

[break][break] TERASTAL ENERGY glows around the Aracanine as he prepares to take the hit, teeth gnashing by Tofu's side as the canine belays it with a CRUNCH. Tofu ducks his head and barely misses getting his whole heat chomped off, sliding beneath the bigger pokemon's form before bursting out with a DISCHARGE.

Not exactly. But the sentiments were in the words!
Thanks to the change in typing, the discharge is more of a shock than troublesome damage. Not very effective, but damage nonetheless. Hopping off of the feisty Pikachu, electricity transmutes to flame as FLARE BLITZ activates. She aims right for the rodent.[break][break]

[break][break] Even with the explanation, it still made the Head Ranger furrow his brows in confusion. Then, suddenly, an old memory resurfaced. Of that one perfect week he and PENELOPE LIVY had spent hanging out in her apartment, of the sound of the TV running, of volleyball boys running across the screen.

[break][break] "Oh!" he said with a nod, even though he still didn't quite understand. "Osu!"

[break][break] With a broad grin, Ollie nodded at the other boy as he watched their pokemon fight on the field.

[break][break] FLARE BLITZ scorches Tofu, who lets out a shout of pain. "Take advantage of that recoil!" Ollie shouts, pointing his finger out. "Electro Ball!"

[break][break] Crackling electricity forms a yellow sphere in front, where the Pikachu slaps it down, causing it to ricochet across towards the Arcanine.

But enough of that, back to the battle at hand! While Topaz is known for her exceptional endurance Pokemon are not gods or creatures without limits. They had a weakness and it looks like they were fully willing to take advantage of it. That’s fine. Toshiaki’s smarter than he looks![break][break]
ELECTRO BALL comes shooting across the field and both trainer and Pokemon lock eyes on the target. He stomps, feet placed firmly onto the ground and Arcanine mirrors her trainer’s movements. He pumps his fists in the air and shouts.[break][break]
“JUMP ON IT!”[break][break]
It takes precise timing, and while her paws were tougher than most (she’s not a fire type right now either, the damage would be halved) it would still hurt- but it’s better than taking the hit head on. On her trainer’s cue she hops onto the heated ball of electricity, using the explosion of energy to accelerate her forward into the air. Flames engulf Arcanine’s rolling form as she heads straight for the Pikachu with a bout of RAGING FURY.[break][break]

[break][break] "I don't think I could do it as well as you!" he shouts back across the field.

[break][break] As the battle continues, and the electro ball races across the field, the last thing either Ollie or his pokemon are expecting are for the pokemon-trainer duo to move in sync and jump on top of the attack.

[break][break] "Woah!" Ollie exclaims, feeling all sorts of excited once more. He raises his arm, the Ranger band gleaming on his arm. "We can't let them show us up, Tofu! Let's go bud!"

[break][break] Tofu DYNAMAXES, multiplying rapidly into the size of a skyscraper. The RAGING FURY crashes into him, but thanks to his size, it makes it all that much easier to take the attack.

[break][break] With a roar, the arena erupts with a MAX GEYSER.

For as long as Toshiaki could remember he’s always been a risk taker to accomplish what he wants. Even as the Pikachu begins to tower over them he feels not fear, but a rushing sensation of excitement. It’s now or never! Water floods and crashes down onto the arena, headed straight for Arcanine. It hits her paws and nearly topples her over but the canine Pokemon stands strong. RAGING FURY continues it’s assault as Arcanine pushes past the waves with all her might. But she struggles. Time to think fast![break][break]
“Aim a flamethrower right at it!”[break][break]
Opening her jaw flames immediately erupt as a beam of fire targets the Dynamax Pikachu, hoping to take it out in one final hit with this desperate FLAMETHROWER.[break][break]

[attr="class","textbody"] It's nearing the end. Ollie can tell. Tofu's growing fatigued, tired after all these matches, and tired against the stubborn enthusiasm of their opponents.

[break][break] Though water usually beats fire, this time it's different. The Arcanine's flames pulse powerfully through the pillars of water, embers flicking as it scorches the Pikachu with it's remaining heat. Ollie returns him to his pokeball before too much damage can be done — and he becomes a Pikachu-skewer!

[break][break] The battle over and done with, Ollie goes to the center of the battle and offers the other a hand out to shake.

[break][break] "Dude, that was awesome. You and your Arcanine are really strong! You guys are gonna do amazing in the tourney."

[break][break] His smile is wide, beaming as bright as the sun.
