it seems a bit unfair to be paired up against Lucia Aldrete considering their age difference, but he supposes that's the point of this tournament, to give everyone an equal opportunity to be on the same playing field.[break][break]

Lucia and Hero stood before the man in front of them. The Dunsparce was coiled around his trainer, trembling before the serious looking man in front of them. The unfortunate trainer had been carrying his full weight while looking at their next opponent.

"It's alright, Hero. We can do this!"

She carefully handled the Dunsparce around to face her, then wrapped her arms around the grass snake in a tight embrace. Her head of black hair covered the right side of her Pokemon in full.

"I got a good feeling about this one."

After the tight hug, Hero perked up from her little cheer session and slithered back down onto the battlefield arena, ready to go. Lucia turned back to Matias and did her best to get serious and started in the battle. She thought back on what her matches with Doug and Shalin looked like and offered a meek wave at her opponent.

"I'm Lucia! Let's have a good match, sir."

Lucia wasn't entirely sure of who her challenger was, given the fact she hadn't familiarized herself with the Hoenn circuit of gym challenges just yet. For all she knew, Matias was another trainer just like her. Maybe a bit more experienced.

Okay, maybe a lot more experienced.

The Dunsparce began the round with an ANCIENT POWER thrown at the Meowth just as it would use its own attack at itself. Hero puffed himself up to appear far more intimidating than he actually was, no little effect.

experience aside, the tournament pits them on equal playing field, making it a more fair and hopefully more fun battle. it wouldn't be any fun to dominate, after all. a bit of back and forth is good.[break][break]

ANCIENT POWER is thrown at meowth but it just takes it, tanking through the pain only to fire back with a THUNDER at Lucia Aldrete's dunsparce.[break][break]

The Meowth was something else entirely! Lucia had only really seen the smaller runt felines across the southern areas of Paldea, so seeing one like this was entirely new to the girl. Hero's attack had really only glanced by the Meowth, who countered with a Thunder of its own.

Hero held steadfast and took the brunt of the POWER GEM sent towards it. He puffed up, increasing his bulk and then went to transfer it to his tail, which sped towards the Meowth with a HYPER DRILL.

this meowth is unlike any other. it's as though it's been beefed up and trained in a specific way to fulfill a specific need. what exactly, Lucia Aldrete could only guess.[break][break]

HYPER DRILL brings dunsparce up close but it does not do enough to topple the towering meowth. it drags a SHADOW CLAW in return.[break][break]

The Hyper Drill hadn't gotten enough power to impact the Meowth's assault any. The elongated feline bounded about in front of the grass snake, raising its arms in the air before bounding towards the Dunsparce with another powerful claw attack.

In a l;ast ditch effort, Hero aimed to ram into the cat as it neared its body. The Dunsparce took a moment to gathered its energy and launched itself directly at the Meowth, using DOUBLE EDGE.
