The package from Marianne Lovelace caught Gunner by surprise. He knew her, of course, as GIDEON GRAVES's employee at the National Museum of Natural History. [break][break]

During the few times he'd run into Marianne, Gunner had found her a pretty, earnest woman with a good work ethic, even if she was clumsy and air-headed at times. Her personality made her endearing, even if she wasn't exactly Gunner's type. [break][break]

Which was why the gift was so unexpected. [break][break]

"A Zeraora, huh?" the younger Graves mused as he turned the Pokéball over in his hand. "How'd she get her hands on one?" [break][break]

Regardless, he resolved to send her a thank-you note. A few days later, a small package arrived at Marianne's desk in the museum containing a rich chocolate-and-oranges candy bar, a tasseled bookmark printed with delicate pink begonias, and a small note. [break][break]
