Oscar watched every act perform their closing routines, and gradually became increasingly nervous as their turn drew near. With so many highly talented performers, would they be able to shine through? A low growl would catch Oscar's attention. Robbie had been watching his master, and he would not let Oscar fall into an anxiety spiral. Oscar had given him the confidence to continue forward, and while he could not exactly do the same, Robbie was keen to return the favor.

All Oscar did was look to his determined partner, and his worries melted away. Win or lose, they were ready to give it their all. He nodded with thanks, "You're right Robbie, we got this shit on lock. Buuuut just in case let's go over the routine one last time."

The duo was unlikely to win at this point, but the least they could do was leave with a good impression. A white screen was put out onto the stage, causing anything behind it to appear as a silhouette. After a few moments of silence, electricity would burst from back stage and take out the theater's lighting (Thunderbolt). Everything went dark--that is, except for the two spotlights that allowed the white screen to project its silhouettes.

The intimidating shadow of Robbie burst into view, its alien cackle echoing across the darkened theater. He would not have time to menace the audience though, as a human sized warrior in samurai garb would quickly join him. Robbie's silhouette turned to face the strange warrior, who raised his sword to challenge the demonic drake. The ultra beast obliged, raising its stinger to use as a blade of his own.

The two fighters dramatically clashed, dueling for the souls of the audience. Robbie had positioned himself in such a way as to make his projected silhouette appear much larger than his actual size, making the battle appear to be between a brave human and a hulking monstrosity. The battle lasted only a minute before the hero would 'strike' Robbie down. The dragon would wail, overacting as he fell to the ground.

With the fight over, the lights would return to the theater and the screen would be removed. Robbie would rise and float next to the warrior, who removed his helmet to reveal the face of Oscar. The two took a bow, ending their run in the contest.

"Kay, Buca. This is our last shot! Leave everything on the stage!" He said as she rubbed a rag on his partner to polish her off. It's a more soothing gesture than anything else. [break][break]

Their turn is up next and the lights go off once more before turning back on. Pokemon and trainer are already set, heads slow in a bow as they greet their audience once more. "Let me introduce you all to Bucatini's true form, Queen of battle, and master of defense!" he said with a grin as his Aggron stood behind him and flexed. His earring began to glow as he flipped his bangs with flourish. The light cut off, leaving only a small rainbow to glow in the darkness before another flared up behind him. His partner's megastone glowing a brilliant radiance as well before their transformation began. [break][break]

Almost instantaneously, the stage is lit up completely by Bucatini’s mega evolution. She lets out a roar again, boasting her new form's power as the lights slowly fade back in. "Bucatini's resilience," he began. [break][break]

A ROCK SLIDE attack dangerously falls on the pair, summoned by the pokemon herself. Mint dodges out of the way, taking cover under her massive form as she prepares for her display of strength. Multiple PROTECT screens appear around her and the stage, encapsulating both of them to the center of the rocky attack. Finally, she blasts METAL BURST as Mint takes a knee in front of her, still confident he was completely safe from harm. "Our bond," [break][break]

The attack smashes through the rocks, and the flake of mica embedded in them turns into glittering dust that sparkles under the stage lights. The PROTECT captures any and all attacks, centering everything on stage. Bucatini hovered one arm protectively over her trainer before allowing him to use it to stand. "Only pushes our TOUKON further past our limits!"

"You're doing so wonderfully," Luka murmurs backstage, fingers twining through her Spectrier's mane. "No matter what happens out there, I want you to know that."[break][break]

She faces the last round with a certain amount of trepidation; being close to the top means you have further to fall. Still, she has full confidence in her partner's abilities. The real question is: does she have what it takes to take them all the way?[break][break]

A tough contest is not the place to be doubting herself, however. She needs to display the best of her abilities. With a deep breath, Luka takes the stage for the final time.[break][break]

"You've seen all kinds of strength on display tonight," she says to the crowd, and her voice is even and strong despite her nerves. "By now, I'm sure you've noticed that it takes many forms. I hope that this is what you take away from tonight: we're all strong, in our own ways."[break][break]

Spectrier appearing from nothing is an old trick by this point. Now, they stride confidently onstage.[break][break]

"Strength of will. Strength of heart. Strength of the bond with your Pokemon." With every sentence, Spectrier launches a dark pulse towards the audience. They explode in midair, dark splotches staining the air like ink stains with a deafening BOOM to match.[break][break]

"They're all important, and they're all vital to protecting the home that is so, so dear to us."[break][break]
With another haunting neigh, Spectrier puts on their final performance. Their hooves stomp into the stage, so hard that it trembles beneath them. Ghostly apparitions appear all around them, each quickly defeated by a powerful kick, a bite, or a burst of necrotic energy. It's a flurry of movement as delicate as it is deadly; strong, but beautiful in it's own way.[break][break]

Finally, they break into a sprint along the length of the stage. Luka catches them by the neck and just barely manages to pull herself astride their back, giving her closing sentiments with a kind of breathy exhilaration.[break][break]

"I hope you're all able to take your little strengths with you tonight, whatever they might be. Hoenn's future lies with all of us...let's make it a wonderful one!"[break][break]

And with that, the pair vanishes, leaving nothing but an afterglow of fuchsia shimmering in their wake.[break][break]

The crowd seemed to be getting tired of Josh Devlin’s performance, or perhaps the Master of Faster had simply not brought his A-game tonight. Sadly, his throbbing thighs were the only trophy he would come home with.

Things picked up again with Noel Parker’s closing act, the spectacular combination of Earth Power and Seed Flare earning a round of applause. “Well done, little Shaymin! I knew you were TOUGHER than you look!”

kyle lopez’s Rampardos showed a bit of its dark side, using one of those Shadow moves that are so rarely seen nowadays. Watching a fake city fall victim to the mad kaiju’s wrath, Andrea thanked the stars that Fallarbor Town did not have Dynamax access.

El Sunderland and their big ol’ turtle shook things up… literally. Once the tremors had subsided, the eccentric hostess howled with childlike glee. “Woooo! Now that was TOUGH! That Earthquake was even better than the last!”

Elise Calcifet made one last statement about the Galarian spirit, her loyal ghost backing her up with a brilliant display of twinkles and sparkles. The children in the audience loved it. “That was dazzling, alright! But is it TOUGH? We’ll have to wait and see!”

Former councilwoman Elinor Anderson stuck to the traditional definition of TOUGHNESS, having Gron obliterate a bunch of boulders again. “Wow, an Aggron using a Water-type move! Now that’s something you don’t see every day!”

As for Alexei Ivanov, his usage of Mega Evolution certainly left an impression. “Here’s an educational fact: When Charizard Mega Evolves using a Charizardite X, it turns into a Dragon type! RAWR~!” The dragon fanatic roared in excitement.

oscar clayton and Robbie redeemed themselves for the travesty that happened in the first round. Alas, it wasn’t enough to spare them from placing second-to-last, but the crowd nonetheless cheered on the valiant samurai who slayed the evil dragon.

Seemingly following in the Fortree Gym Leader’s footsteps, mint frost also utilized Mega Evolution for his closing act, showing off Bucatini’s stalwart defense. “Our bonds are the shield that Protects our beloved region! Well done, you two!”

Finally, luka chêne took the stage one last time in order to deliver an inspiring speech where she entrusted Hoenn’s future to the civilians watching the show. In an age of avatars and gods, average ordinary people could be heroes in their own way.

Silence fell in the auditorium, everyone waiting with bated breath to hear the results. Andrea walked to the center of the stage, geta echoing against the hard, wooden floor.

“I’ve spoken with the judges, and… for the second year in a row, our TOUKON TOUGH CONTEST winner is Alexei Ivanov and Ravana the Charizard!” The young PokéManiac triumphantly announced, flourishing her flowing, elegant kimono. “Congratulations, everyone! Nothing else needs to be said! Our wonderful contestants have spoken with their words and their TOUGH performances! We all have TOUKON!”

Euphoric cheers erupted from the crowd, as they honored winners and losers alike with a standing ovation that went on for several minutes.
