Everything was happening so quickly, and for as many resources as the league had, they were still being run thin. Not only were the icelands a terrible concern with the chasm that had opened up and the threat of both Hoopa and Kyurem looming about, the surrounding areas were being afflicted by tera crystals and an onslaught of Pokemon that were displaced during the terrible fight... Other conflict never stopped, rocket was garnering resources every day, and now this legendary Pokemon and this tree emerged in Evergrande City, it was a lot to keep up with.[break][break]
Until they had a better understanding of what the emergence of the dyna tree meant and had a better handle on everything else that was going on, if that would ever be a possibility, the league was organizing a set of security shifts to guard and maintain the Dyna Tree...[break]
So guess who's turn it was?[break][break]
Off in the distance, around the wide breadth of the perimeter of the tree, and its enormous trunk, Delton stalked around on his tall legs, keen senses keeping an out for things while Yuina stood with Daikenki beside her. The strange legendary Pokemon that had emerged from the tree was somewhere within its vast branches and plumage, likely asleep as it had been on and off since it appeared.[break][break]
"What a great time to be left alone with our thoughts, huh," Yuina muttered a bit, auburn eyes cast out into a far distance that she would never be able to reach again.[break]
"We'll only be out here for a little while," she returned as Daikenki huffed at her, sniffing into her hair and just trying to garner her attention from her melancholy thoughts. She patted the side of his smooth, broad neck, thankful for him. At least she could thank whatever force in the universe for Daikenki and her Pokemon, she wouldn't have known them otherwise.

A marching GOLETT appears over a nearby hill before long. It lifts a hand as if shielding its eyes from the sun to get a good look at the massive tree looming above it. The man it has brought in tow, however, only stops to look at from afar before continuing. He's been several times before, after all. And, while the tree was impressive, he'd seen it overseas as well.[break][break]

Wearing a fleece-lined jacket to combat the lingering winter breeze, pulls a hand out of his pocket to greet the young woman with a wave once he's within talking distance. "Hello there! You must be Yuina. I think we've bumped into each other a few times at the museum." He remarks with a smile before offering her a handshake. "My name is Remiel. I'm an archaeologist there."[break][break]

ATLAS, in the meantime, hurries to catch up to his master— though abruptly freezes when it catches sight of the intimidating HISUIAN SAMUROTT.[break][break]

The day was quiet, save for the ocassional chilly breeze that still carried the lingering cold of the harsh winter the region faced. The quiet did little to help Yuina's thoughts, she hated being left alone to think... To struggle in not getting sucked into the darkness of her shadow... She hardly noticed that someone was approaching. Fortunately her Pokemon were more keen on the job they had been assigned to, to protect the tree and make sure that they kept their vigil.[break][break]
Daikenki stood straighter beside Yuina as a figure approached, a human and a golem of sorts while Delton stalked into view in the near distance, yellow eyes peering out beneath the brim of his hat. It wasn't until the voice called out in greeting that Yuina blinked, focusing on who was approaching. At least for the moment, they didn't seem hostile... In fact, he questioned her name, speaking about the museum...[break][break]
He did look kind of familiar... One of the trips that she had made to the museum in Slateport...[break][break]
"Oh, uhm yes, that's right. I'm Yuina," she confirmed, trying to focus through that far away stare, turning to face him now.[break]
"Archeology, that's right, and you were one of the hosts for the Hoennyule Party, weren't you," Yuina recalled, now recalling his name in various credits for the larger museum exhibits, and she could, vageuly given her fugue state, remember the announcement he made of the Draconid Zodiac.[break][break]
For the moment, as Yuina eased up a bit, Daikenki made no sudden moves as he stood just behind her, though the Samurott did glance to the golem Pokemon that stood stock still now just behind Remiel. He chuffed, a greeting, for the moment there was no need to be off put by the situation.

Remiel visibly brightens at the mention of the HOENNYULE PARTY. "I was." He responds with a nod. "And you were there, I suppose? Truth be told, I'm surprised we haven't properly met much sooner. I was told you might have had a hand in helping arrange things."[break][break]

It would have made sense. But had Yuina been offered the chance to begin with? Had she denied it? Remiel didn't know for certain. Unlike back at the museum, he wasn't a coordinator. And perhaps had been busy anyway.[break][break]

Meanwhile, the tension slowly slips away from Atlas as he regards the Hisuian Samurott with a robotic (and slightly awkward) wave.[break][break]

"Did you enjoy the exhibit at the party?" Remiel continues before long. "What is your zodiac?"[break][break]

Confirming he was in fact one of the hosts of the Hoennyule Party, Yuina was at least pleased that she could recognize the face, now she had a clear picture formed. It sounded like they had crossed paths many times before, but had never properly spoken to each other.[break][break]
"Oh, not really, nothing direct any way. I primarily work with the Museum in Petalburg City, we just happened to have some extra supplies and resources to spare to help the preparations along. I didn't have anything else to offer...," she returned, and she didn't, not really. Her influence, if she had any at all, was still very small in regards to both academia and the league organization. It wasn't as though she had anything to offer to all of the representatives of the organization, not like Remiel did.[break][break]
He wondered if she enjoyed the exhibit at the party, the reveal of the Draconid Zodiac... He asked what her zodiac sign was... And the question gave her pause.[break][break]
'If we can't remember the original one, who says we can't decide on a new one?... I'll celebrate it with ya, whichever day ya pick...'[break][break]
Both a fond and devastating memory... Doug had been so sweet to try and mend her concerns, but in the end, it was still just a reminder that she was hardly a whole person...[break][break]
"I... Yes, the exhibit was incredible, a really great way to give back to the heritage of the region," she managed after a moment.[break]
"My zodiac sign turned out to be Kingdra, it was really insightful, you did so much wonderful work for putting it all together."

Particularly when it comes to HISUIAN history." The archaeologist adds, taking a seat upon a giant root that arcs out from the grass as they chat beneath the shade of the DYNA TREE.[break][break]

"But thank you. I've studied the DRACONID culture for some time now— almost as long as I've studied LEGENDARY Pokémon. To be able to finally give something back to its region of origin was an intensely gratifying feeling." He admits with a somewhat bashful smile. In spite of not having any expendable resources to lend to others, it did seem still that her name, her work, was making its rounds in the academic world... And for that, Yuina did smile a touch. Her work for Hisuian History, her own history... Felt more successful than her ventures did as a ranger. She still struggled to try and reach the impossibly high pedastal Ollie had somehow built for her...[break][break]
"Oh, thank you... That's kind of you to say. I've really appreciated the opportunities the academic community has proivded me to work on it all," Yuina nodded, likely one of the first compliments paid to her that she may have actually accepted, at least her historical work wasn't all lies...[break][break]
Remiel took her words in kind regarding his work on the Draconid culture, elaborating a bit on the gravity of what it meant to be able to complete the piece. She smiled again, his admission that the work may have had some selfish elements tied to it but... So did her own work, very much so in fact. She could relate.[break]
"Selfless or not, I don't think that makes the work any less impactful... I'm sure it is truly valuable to those who can find their origins in the culture," Yuina offered, he couldn't discredit that.

"I may not be a native-born DRACONID, but I greatly respect their culture and the indelible mark they left on HOENN. Remiel's words give Yuina pause, the same thing she had heard before from ... That being able to draw from one's past helped shape their future... Yuina's angel was a shining example of that, she knew Remiel's words to be true...[break][break]
Idling behind Yuina, sticking close by, Daikenki glanced to the golem as it moved, then disappeared into darkness. The Samurott barked, stepping forward, sniffing for a moment, before finding the Golett high above them. Daikenki chuffed with an open maw, turning to get a better look up, before jumping and disappearing into shadow himself, using Shadow Sneak. His darkness raced up the tree and found the Golett as he emerged another branch above.[break][break]
"I think that's admirable, as close as you can get to not being of the culture itself. Having such a high respect and understanding for where the region has its origins, I'm sure there are those who are native born and don't have the same understanding," Yuina returned, though she wasn't looking at Remiel, instead she was smiling, watching Daikenki as he'd taken to meeting the Golett in its small show.[break][break]
Remiel posed a question in return, wondering what brought her to be interested in Hisui. She would be lying on a lot of fronts, but not on one in particular as she watched Delton move towards them now, running and jumping on his tall legs, wings spread a bit, looking around to find where both the Golett and Daikenki had gone.[break][break]
"They did," she returned first, her tone thoughtful.[break]
"Fascinating, aren't they? They're supposed to be extinct, but against all odds, those distortions have brought them here, brought them out of the dark," Yuina mentioned first, though, they weren't the only reason she did what she did now.[break][break]
"And... When the Megalopolans attacked on route 119 in the fall... A group of Hisuian natives had actually been brought from their time to ours, and... They didn't survive... That makes them, that makes Hisui, a part of Hoenn's history now, and their culture deserves to be preserved here..."

Though he wasn't native-born, he was certain he could trace his KALOSIAN lineage back to the DRACONIDS. But that was beside the point. The world he'd grown up in— one of royalty, wealth, and privilege— was very different than most found in HOENN. To be acknowledged for his contribution to preserving DRACONID history, despite where he had come from, made him swell with pride.[break][break]

Particularly, perhaps, because it was coming from a fellow peer whose work he greatly admired.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Atlas struggles to keep his balance above, tenuously wavering over the edge for a second there. Remiel turns his attention to the HISUIAN DECIDUEYE in flight instead. The sight brings a warm smile to his face. Though word of the HISUIAN people who had been displaced, only to be killed by MEGALOPOLANS, quickly disintegrated that smile from his expression.[break][break]

"That's... terrible," He mutters in response, turning back to offer a sympathetic look at Yuina. "Is that why you do it? To honour their memory here in HOENN?" The prince inquires before shifting his gaze to the skies above. "I think that's beautiful. Truth be told, the GALARIAN soldiers who died here during the ULTRA BEAST WAR are a big reason why I continue to persist here to this day. After all, if they didn't get to return to their families and their homeland... why should I?"[break][break]

Above, his Golett finally tumbles off the large branch... only to slowly float upwards with its control over GRAVITY. However, it struggles to 'swim' in the air and return to the branch afterward. Remiel, in the meantime, snaps out of a short pause to reassure Yuina with a small chuckle. "Not that I particularly want to, anyway. The only family I care to have around me is already here."[break][break]

Situated, only a bit precariously, on a tree branch of his own, Daikenki barked again at the Golett and their small game they were playing, looking at the ghost from his spot. It looked like the golem was going to fall, the Samurott inched forward, sniffing and trying to make sure that he was alright. And as the golem floated, lofting in the air in a strange way, Daikenki unsheathed on of his seamitars, holding it out, trying to help anchor the golem back to the tree if he could reach.[break][break]
Divulging only part, the selfless part, of why she worked so endlessly on Hisuian History now, Yuina glanced to Remy at his sympathy, matching his gaze. It was terrible, knowing that a group of Hisuians who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with no other way to defend themselves in such a strange new place against such an awful, awful enemy... And that not only were they lost to time like she was, but their memories would be too... They wouldn't be there now to see their village grow, to see how the region changed, to be a part of the journals that came from that era...[break][break]
"It is... though it doesn't feel like enough... there's no way to explain to their families why they'll never return, being ripped out of time that way... In a way, it's like they've been erased, their histories stop with their disappearance and the Sinnoh region will never know that they were a part of the beginning," Yuina returned, the weight of what it meant to be lost that way, it was clear that she carried that weight with her in a sense.[break][break]
Remiel's words on soldiers not being able to return home were exactly her own sentiments, and he understood it so well, through his own experience.[break]
"That's very commendable Remiel, really. With your understanding of it all, I'm sure you're the kind of person who will be able to continue to make a difference for what that event caused. It sounds like both the Draconid culture and Galarian Culture are very well represented by you," she returned.

"I don't know that I'd go that far. The state of things in GALAR right now are... complicated." He adds with a sigh. Anti-royal sentiment was at an all-time high, after all. A nearby DYNA FRUIT hanging on another branch nearby, however, soon catches its attention. It points it out to Daikenki excitedly.[break][break]

"Anyway, would you like to take a walk around the tree with me?" Remiel suggests with a smile, gently pushing himself off the large root he'd been seated upon as he begins to lead the way. Her previous words were not lost on him, of course. That was exactly what he had hoped to talk to her about more. Though the royal had gotten less and less used to sitting in place for a long period since quitting his job as GALARIAN AMBASSADOR.[break][break]

In a way, it felt like Yuina may have said something incorrect? But, in general... She actually really had little to no idea on what she was talking about at all. So... it was probably very likely that she said something wrong, unaware and uncertain of what really happened during the Ultra Beast War... And what it meant for Galarian people. Perhaps... She shouldn't try to speak so strongly on something she couldn't elaborate on.[break][break]
"I'm... sorry, if I said something," Yuina admitted first, though, she didn't press any more than that... It wasn't her place, it wasn't anything she didn't need to be privy to if Remiel didn't care to elaborate, and she wouldn't make him. In fact, it sounded like he may not want to further the topic as he offered a walk around the tree instead. And that was valid, and fair. She could never pry for information, because... she herself had so many things that she kept hidden within her shadows...[break][break]
"That sounds nice, yes," Yuina returned, a soft smile, still anything to maintain a bit of company. Being left alone to drown in her own thoughts was such a chore... It was getting harder and harder to manage.[break]
Delton looked on as Remiel stood, the owl's head tilting at the notion that they were leaving perhaps, but Yuina met the Decidueye's pointed gaze.[break][break]
"Delton, tokei," Yuina spoke, a short word, but one that let Delton know that they were still here to watch over the tree for their time.[break][break]
Within the branches above, Daikenki sheathed his blade again at having successfully brought the Golett back to stable, or... Mostly stable ground. He moved forward and sniffed a bit at the golem to make sure that he was alright, but it seemed the ghost type was unfazed now that he had been brought back to the branches. His attention turned quickly to a brightly colored fruit hanging a couple of branches away, but... Weren't they supposed to be protecting the tree? The Samurott cocked his head, unsure...

Remiel notes the air of unease around her, then quickly shakes his head to try and dispel it. "No need to apologize, I assure you. The state of GALAR is complicated and certainly nothing I expect you to be well versed in. I took no offense to anything you said. In fact, I wish I knew less of things myself." He chuckles. When Yuina acknowledges her Hisuian Decidueye, however, and utters a foreign word to it, the royal is quick to address that next. "Was that a HISUIAN word?" He inquires, resting his hands in his pockets as they walk across a grassy knoll. "Compared to the recordings I've heard, that sounded fairly fluent." As fluent as he hoped his DRACONID would be someday.[break][break]

Meanwhile, up above, Atlas urges Daikenki to follow him before creating a shadowy portal (PHANTOM FORCE) to bring it closer to the large fruit. It misjudges the point of exit, however, and soon finds itself hugging said large fruit to keep itself from falling. Even so, the Golett does not seem worried.[break][break]

On the contrary: it begins to swing.

At least for now, it sounded like Yuina hadn't said something entirely wrong concerning Remiel's relations with Galar. However, it sounded to be far more than she could have fathomed at all, and it weighed on him greatly...[break]
"Knowledge is power, but ignorance is bliss, isn't it? It's hard to find the happy medium between the two," Yuina empathized, as she too was starting to wonder if all of her exploits in trying to reach into the shadows beyond this life in her consciousness was worth it... It was becoming very burdensome...[break][break]
The two stood, ready to take their walk around the grounds of the Dyna tree when Yuina bid Delton to keep watch, that they weren't leaving the grounds. Remiel was quick to identify the language, and Yuina couldn't help a small smile. It was nice to know that academically she was proficient in something that way... That it could be recognized for what it was...[break][break]
"Yes, it was," she nodded, though she regarded his compliment with a bashful smile of her own.[break]
"Thank you... I've been practicing the language as I've been working on my studies, so that I can translate texts and journals as accurately as centuries of separation can allow," Yuina returned, a half truth. She was having to practice the language, but it was more refreshing and relearning for her than it was anything brand new... So maybe she had a leg up on things and not as steep a learning curve.[break][break]
No sooner had Daikenki expressed his concern for leaving the fruit be, the Golette was gone again within its shadows, and was now clutched to the large fruit that hung from the edge of the branches. The Samurott barked incredulously, daring to move forward on the branches as he inched closer, coming towards the golem. It was a wonder the fuit held on as well as it did with the added weight, but that weight started to swing from the fruit's stem...[break]
Daikenki drew a seamitar again and held it out as far as he could try to reach, urging the ghost to let go of the fruit.
