At the center of the room rests a dead angel.[break][break]
Dewford’s morgue has been forced by violent rebirth to adapt. Necessity has led them to be equipped to secure and contain these bodies. Feelers are secured to the table, the bite mark that killed it exposing its alien insides for all the world to see. An overwhelming scent of sterile cleaning supplies keeps decay’s telltale smell at bay.[break][break]
At the edge of this awkward scene is a Kommo-O. It speaks of this room’s size that the creature can comfortably sit inside the room. In a place of science, a fighting dragon seems decidedly out of place. Its twin, a human wearing a brown-gold western outfit, seems just as out of place. He looks poised to draw a pokeball on a drunken fool in the middle of a desert street, not be guided in the dissection of a monster.[break][break]
“They’re still dangerous, even when they’re dead.” Sheriff Navidson says, eyes steady, focused on the body. “At least ‘til the neurotoxin dries up. Think it takes a few days.” He is no scientist, blessed with no degree to offer real insight. That is Sol’s role.[break][break]
“Sygna suits and equipment we don’t keep on hand are the only ways to be sure you’re safe. Lucky for me, I’ve got one. Here’s how we’re gonna do this.” On the table sits all the equipment they could need or want for dissecting the creature. Arthur, the Kommo-O supplying power to the sygna suit, coughs awkwardly. He is a fighter, an adventurer, a believer. None of these things are conductive to the task at hand.[break][break]
“We’ll have to work together. Tell me what to do, I’ll cut it however you want, we’ll study it together.” The cold truth is that Navy will learn nothing new. Nihilego have been studied extensively for years since they first appeared. The Sheriff wonders if Sol’s insight will measure up to that of the League researchers who came before him.[break][break]
“Ready when you are.”

No amount of excitement could have deterred the dread that filled him. The putrid stench of sanitation. It filled his nose, clogged his throat, and made him feel like every breath would lead him to choke. His eyes stung as though they could smell it too. Returning to an environment just like his childhood...he detested it.

Sol sits from a so-called "safe distance" away from the Sheriff and more importantly the Nihilego. He had pulled his hair back into a ponytail for maximum focus on the procedure ahead. As disappointed and willing to risk it as he was, Sol couldn't help but appreciate all that Navy was doing for him. He must have said 'thank you' twenty or more times before they had even entered the dissection room.

"I would (again) like to mention that I am soooo fine getting neurotoxin on me. I'm lucky, I'm sure I'll be fine." He believed this too, although he neglected to mention that he believed Navy would somehow suffer in his place. But he knew the Sheriff would never let him get up in the creature's guts on his own.

"To be honest, I'm unsure how to start. My mind is racing with a thousand thoughts a minute. I guess we start with...the open wound. I already know how it was made, though... How about instead, you cut one of the tentacle-like feelers into a slice?" He narrows his eyes, watching Navy, "What does it feel like? I want to see the inner workings of the feeler. Do they show signs of a nervous system?"

“You tell me.” Activating a head mounted camera, he tosses a small screen to Sol. From where he sits, the young researcher can see what Navy sees. All risk is thrown upon the gym leader, which is exactly what the older man prefers. Cracking his knuckles, raising his right hand, he makes an incision.[break][break]
This blade, made of a special alloy Navy couldn’t explain if asked at gunpoint, cuts through the rocky skin of the Nihilego. It splits the tentacle down the middle like it were a simple Tentacool, rather than an ultra beast. Its insides are laid bare for Sol, exposing no new insights for a region that once battled these creatures.[break][break]
Yet, Navy suspects, it will prove fruitful for a curious young researcher. After making the long cut down the middle, he begins an arduous process of slicing off a bit for closer inspection. Inside appears to be a nervous system, although a man with an eighth grade education wouldn’t begin to know what one looks like.[break][break]
“I’m sure you’d be fine.” His smile accentuates light jabbing. “No such thing as a free lunch. If somebody has good luck, someone else probably has bad luck to balance the scales. Don’t wanna get any of this stuff on me.”
