People glance at them and whisper. It’s unavoidable that people will notice them. She was Kanto’s greatest trainer. He is one of Hoenn’s elites. People will talk. Rocket will inevitably find out.[break][break]

“Know it sounds like diplomatic bull--- crap,” old chauvinism has him correct the word, “but thanks for coming back to Hoenn. There are plenty of folk happy to just sit the war out in Unova or Galar and pretend like nothing’s going on.” He sips on tea, not wanting to overwhelm her with words. There’s a lot to go over while the region keeps calm and carries on.

The stares have always been expected.[break][break]

Even those who do not know her name, who do recognize what she for who she is, always follow the burn scars marring her skin. Callie is used to it by now. She was used to eyes devouring her far before that.[break][break]

Where Navy drinks tea, Callie drinks coffee. Dark roast, one cream, two sugars, a quick stir. She cradles the warm drink in hands where it rests on the table between them.[break][break]

"You can say 'shit', Mr. Navidson."[break][break]

It's as dry as sawdust. Wry at best. She lifts the mug she's been given to sip her drink.[break][break]

"What do you want from me?"[break][break]

And to some it may be... too direct. Yet Callie's tone isn't unkind.[break][break]

If she hadn't wanted to be here, she wouldn't have bothered to reply in the first place, after all.

“Rocket can’t take Dewford. If they do…” He wants to say we’ll lose, but the war in Kanto has already been lost. Rocket rules there with an iron fist. When he finishes the sentence, the words that follow are low.[break][break]
“Hoenn’ll fall, too.” They are saved by the humdrum of conversation around them. Even those starstruck by celebrities are not so bold as to be close. Others carry on their conversations, affording them the privacy for him to say those three words.

Callie's gaze slides down to the key. She regards it for a few moments before taking it and sliding it into her pocket.[break][break]

"That's the problem with people, I've found. Selfish or ignorant." Picking up her coffee, she tilts head head back as she drains the rest of the cup, right to the dredges. A heavy sigh. While still stiff, she does seem slightly more relaxed in the din of the cafe.[break][break]

She’s, well, I worry about her. Any parent would. Not gonna ask you to be a gym trainer, not ‘til you trust me, but just…look out for her while you’re down there.” A soft chuckle. “…but I bet it’d give someone a shock if they had to fight Kanto’s champ to have a shot at fighting Tsubaki.”

Callie stays silent for a long time after Navy's explanation. Her eye, hard, is elsewhere as she stares through Navy like she doesn't see him. Eventually, she stands- not seeming to care if Navy has finished his drink or not.[break][break]

"Show me, then." She looks down on Navy from her full height. As before, there is no malice there. Just the preference for action. She adjusts her jacket and gathers her trash to tidy up the table a bit before the staff come over.[break][break]

"I'll be a provisional Gym Trainer for the meantime. My dedication to the growth of the youth wasn't something I used to say on TV for good ratings."
