THE BORDER IS A MOUNTAINOUS PURGATORY OF MUTED SEPIA SMOKE. By floating islands, translucent bridges soar through the realm toward the heavens. Tall stone spires jut out from the spiritual mist. In the sky, the wisps of spirits can be seen heading toward their final destination before the afterlife...[break][break]

Curiously, there are four broken seals embedded in four mountains. Though Adrian Malcolm and YVELTAL may have seen their location upon their unceremonious entry, the spirit realm has shifted since their last visit, rendering each broken seal far apart from each other.

She hadn’t been here in a long time. In fact, she barely remembered The Borders. Was it just a dream, after all?

Was this all a dream?

Would she wake up in Lavaridge with Killian by her side in a structure she called a home? Could she just brush this all off and consider it a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from?

This place toyed with the mind, gently tugging it further and further away from reality. Even now, it whispered sweet nothings into her ear, things she wanted to hear.

This is the end.

Just beyond the veil, where souls walked freely and flirted with the idea of returning to reality. Could she find him there amongst the dead? All she had to do was jump.

Lex leaned closer, a blank stare lost in some sort of trance.

A boot rose, slowly inching towards the final border.

All she had to do was jump.

This was the first time that Victoria had done something like this. Not that it was completely surprising at this point. This region was full of fuckery that Tori just couldn't understand. So she stopped asking questions and locked in. After all, the alternative wasn't even worth considering, she had a job to do.[break][break]

That's what she had said to herself at least, but now that she was in the 'spirit realm' she couldn't help herself but be impressed and on edge. Anything could happen here, the lands of purgatory were nothing to trifle with. Victoria wasn't superstitious by any means nor did she find herself afraid in the presence of ghosts, however, life and death could easily be blurred in places like these. It was always better to err on the side of caution.[break][break]

Her father, THEO BECKETT had introduced her to her partner. With his recommendation Tori could trust Lex was dependable at least. Except, she wasn't exactly 'sociable'. Then again, Tori wasn't either so it wasn't that big of a deal. They conversed when it was required and that was about it. However, for a while now Tori had been getting a peculiar feeling.[break][break]

Adjusting the bags on her back she observed with piercing eyes, her partner who seemed to be caught up in a trance. Unsure if her suspicions were justified she continued to monitor the red-headed woman. But it was when she stepped closer the final pass or border towards the eternal resting place of the dead, that she realized she needed to act.[break][break]

"WAIT!" she shouted as she tossed her bags to her Lucario, Osiris, and made a dash for Lex. Tori couldn't afford to lose Lex here, especially because out of the two of them she was the expert here. Leaving Tori to fend for herself in this purgatory was a death wish. Victoria was quick as she yanked the woman back from the edge, tackling her to the ground to secure her in place.[break][break]

"Have you lost your mind?!" she huffed as the blood rushed to her ears leaving them ringing. Overhead the sky began to darken, signaling the end of the 'day' if time even passed like normal here. Either way, Tori wasn't sure what happened at night here, it wasn't smart of them to continue exploring in the dark.[break][break]

Glancing once more at Lex she offered her a hand to help her up, once she was sure she was snapped out of whatever trance she'd been in. She didn't ask her any further questions, instead she nodded her head in a direction. "I think it would be wise to set up camp...preferably somewhere far from...here..." she said as her eyes narrowed at the final border to the afterlife once more.[break][break]

She didn’t feel herself hit the ground, she was just suddenly there, with Tori on top of her. The rapid blinking of eyes cleared the mental confusion and with a suddenly burst, the pain of her head slammed against the ground overwhelmed her all at once, “Fuck’s sake,” she groaned, bucked beneath the Beckett to get her off.

When free, Lex sat up, rubbing the back of her head where a little welt was already forming. Had she lost her mind? The ex-beast’s amber gaze drifted back over to the edge and chilling realization ran down her spine, “Yeah, I think I did, actually,” she took Tori’s offered hand and stood up, brushing the dirt off her ass before she reached down to scoop up her own pack.

“I spent the night here once before,” Lex admitted, shrugging the backpack onto her shoulders, “But yes, better to be far away from here,” she could still hear the whispers in her head. She swallowed, abruptly turning away.

Lex began leading Tori away towards a jagged break in the horizon, “There’s a rock outcropping over there by the waterfall with some little alcoves. That’ll provide some protection,” With only two of them, the cliff face would acting as a third, someone watching their back, “About a kilometer or so, not too far.”

Victoria kept a care watch over Lex, unsure of she would make another bolt towards the edge behind her. She wanted to be prepared nonetheless, but for the most part it seemed she had snapped out of whatever trance she was in, thank Arceus. “I spent the night here once before,” Lex spoke as she gathered her things and looked towards the horizon. [break][break]

She turned on her heel and quickly left the scene, paying no more mind to the situation that had just befell them. Tori glared behind her once more towards the edge of the border and quickly followed after her partner. This place was shaping up to be just as dangerous as the reports said it was. [break][break]

Victoria followed along silently as Lex lead the way towards where they would be resting. She listened as Lex expertly gave her analysis of the area but she couldn't shake the events that had just transpired. Tori was curious but she wasn't so socially inept that she wouldn't realize it wasn't her place to interrogate Lex on the matter. [break][break]

She was sure if she was in her shoes, she wouldn't want to talk about it much either. "Sounds good to me. We should be able to reach before it gets dark." Tori responded as she glanced up at the sky. "Anything crazy happen at night?" she asked since Lex had mentioned she stayed overnight before.[break][break]

The journey was rather uneventful, and the cliffs stretched up into the dark sky like a jagged shadow. She led them into a small alcove that seemed well protected from at least two sides. No cave or unexpected opened would give a malicious presence the option to ambush them . . . at least, that’s what she hoped.

Lex let the bag on her back slide off her arm and onto the dry ground with a subtle thud before turning to face Victoria and address her question. The dull light of the pale moon gave her grin a haunting look, “Always something different. The veil between our world and the afterlife is thin here. Expect to find yourself haunted by all manner of strange,” she crouched down to unpack two bed rolls and a LITWICK. The little pokemon’s flame gave them some light, and it’s FLAME BODY some warmth.

Their shadows that danced by the light of it’s flame seemed to move of their own, curiosity pulling them closer to veil and into their world.

Tori followed Lex along towards an alcove in the rocky outcropping that she had pointed out earlier. As they offloaded their things she listened intently to Lex's warning about the nature of the border.

[break][break] Tori's violet pools narrowed as she began to fumble around with her bag. It seemed like they were in for a long night. That was fine, back during her mercenary days she'd had to 'tough it out' on numerous occasions. She was sure this would be no different.

[break][break] Then again, she didn't want to underestimate the borders. Reports from this place were certainly...concerning to say the least.

[break][break] It wouldn't be hard to stay on guard while camping out here. With that in mind, she quickly began to empty out the contents of her bag that held their camping supplies. Daylight was quickly fading to twilight and she needed to have a proper shelter up for them before their light was completely gone.

[break][break] It was a race against time, the moon was already beginning it's shift as she quickly began to set up the large tent for them. Luckily Rocket had scored them some quality supplies to use. It was nice considering the amount of people they would've had to shell this sort of thing out to. She counted her blessings they were lucky enough to receive a few 'luxury' items.

[break][break] "Oz, help me out." She said with a nod in her direction. With a gruff grunt, the jackal made his way over and after a grueling period of time had passed they had managed to set everything up. "Phew," Tori sighed as she wiped at her brow. "Sooo..." she said as she tapped her shoulder, resting for a just a brief moment.

[break][break] "...Are you...feeling better?" she asked Lex as she headed over towards the rest of her supplies and began to prep for cooking them a meal. Tori still didn't want to pry into her business but she had to make sure her partner was good. Even if she seemed okay on the outside, there was no telling how she was truly holding up unless she asked.

[break][break] It'd be too late to ask when they're cornered in a difficult situation and Lex 'loses it' again. Besides, she rather know what to expect if she was going to resist whatever craziness was going on here in the wilderness.

[break][break] "You don't have to go into details." she continued as washed her hands with some of their water from the canteen. "To be honest, I don't care to hear it." she added before pausing. "No offense." she quickly tacked on the awkward apology. "I just want to be prepared should...something like that happen again."

[break][break] She began to chop up some vegetables on a chopping board they had brought with them. They didn't bring much but she could certainly make do with the supplies they had brought with them.
