The heated tension slowly abated. The repetition and monotony of work lent itself a cold professionalism that made them each seem more the equals that they were.[break][break]

All the same, she avoided meeting his gaze, keeping her focus on the Tera Crystals that glittered in the cavern walls. Her eyes unfocused, lost to contemplation as she dismissed the man beside her from her thoughts.[break][break]

She wondered, instead of THEO BECKETT, about BARNABY FINCH. What this meant to him, what it meant for her. Whether or not she had ruined everything by asking questions she shouldn't have.[break][break]

It didn't matter. She drowned each despairing thought, one by one, into the darkest recesses of her mind, determined to forget all that had happened here.[break][break]
