She stands amidst the weeds, seedling tugging at her ankles. The breeze carries the cries of distant pokemon. She listens as they float aimlessly between blades of grass. Finally, she sees movement.[break][break]

The seedling's taken to the thrill of battle by now. She narrows her eyes, ears twitching. This rhythm -- the hunt, the chase, the fight, the catch... and repeat -- she's begun to enjoy it. Just like her dear, departed mother did once upon a time. [break][break]

This bat's privy to the move, though. Echolocation locates the seed, and she dodges out of the way just in time-- only for a ball to smack her out of the skies, spiraling down into the grass.[break][break]

"Hah! Gotcha! Good job, Ai!"[break][break]

She bulbasaur offers her a smug smile, snaggletooth fang and all. Then, red eyes go to the wild grass again. They're not alone.[break][break]

They connect, and toss the ball away. An angry squawk, and feathers fall all around as the rookidee flutters off. [break][break]

Tsubaki walks to the edge, gazes into the deep, murky waters. Far cry from the clear blue waters she's used to, but... [break][break]

"We're here. Put out a lead, let's lure her out."[break][break]

A rescue mission. Proprietors don't know what habitat's good for a fish like this. At least they know it's salt water, but this is more like a bayou than a coastal vista. They'll remedy it this time, where last time they didn't have the time.[break][break]

Ai rests the tip of her vine on the surface of the water, mimicking an insect landing on the surface. Ripples begin to ccove rthe stagnant lake, and then, slowly, bubbles begin to rise. Slow at first, then faster, until...[break][break]

"... Ai, now!"[break][break]

As the giant fish breaches the water, vines wrap around her, slowing her ascent into the skies. Only at the peak of her jump, pushing through the vines trap with ease, does the ball leave Tsubaki's hand.[break][break]

An almost sure hit.[break][break]

The struggle's attracted something from the woods. A bitter scent fills the air as it approaches. Baki wheels around, searching the brush, while Ai sniffs the air. [break][break]

"... All that splashin'... Ai!"[break][break]

A flurry of leaves that glow with ethereal light. The seedling lashes out with her vines, knocking each of them aside. Like slashes from a sword. She's getting good at this.[break][break]

"Can see it! Hold yer ground!"[break][break]

The little bulbasaur stares down the petilil, growling. The little predator stares back, looking it over for wounds. Then, slowly, it backs into the brush. Prey this strong ain't worth it. [break][break]

"... Tch."[break][break]

An apple falls, and strikes the bulbasaur straight on the head. Looking around, dizzy, she suddenly snarls and bares her fangs. Eyes poke out of the top of the fallen fruit. [break][break]

"Another wyrm! Careful, Ai!"[break][break]

The bulbasaur stares it down for a moment, and then the drake rolls over, belly up. [break][break]

Tsubaki chuckles, walking toward it and picking it up.[break][break]

"... Guess your skull's thicker, eh?"[break][break]

The bulbasaur stammers in her defense.[break][break]

She smiles, enjoying teasing her little seedling, before pressing a ball to the Applin. It's captured without a fuss. [break][break]

Standing in the clearing there's a bulbasaur. It stares at them with a distant smile, as if it's been waiting for them this entire time. [break][break]

"Ai... this one too, it..."[break][break]

The seedling growls affirmatively. No scent. It's a common mistake, she supposes. Bulbasaur communicate by the scent of their pollen, the fragrance of the flowers on their back. But an impostor wouldn't know that.[break][break]

"Alright. You know what to do."[break][break]

Ai walks straight up to the duplicate, who responds just like a mirror. Moving the same way, subtleties and all. If it weren't for that single flaw, it'd be a perfect copy. Staring for a moment, she lets it all soak in. And then...[break][break]

She spits sludge in the ditto's eyes. Its form suddenly flickers and changes, the quadruped reaching up to wipe its eyes with human-like hands. In that moment, the girl tosses the ball. [break][break]

"Gotcha!" [break][break]
