Often he forgets, given the long life he has lived, that he was once a fisherman’s son. There were days, seldom, but enough to find ground in his memory, where his father would take him out to sea. Sometimes, he simply handed his father beer while he worked. Other times, he turned his hands himself to the task of reeling in fish.[break][break]
Always, there were songs. Old rock and shanties alike dominated the airwaves around their boat. It is the one good memory he has of his father, singing those songs together with him.[break][break]
“Sun and horizon met, I weighed the anchor, hoisted sails, my course was set~ ♪ ” His voice is the storm to her waves, a rumbling sound that bellows across the ocean wide. Those whose job it is to bear them across the waves for this expedition give them queer looks, but the Elite does not care.[break][break]
“ My cutthroat crew conspiring with the stars our guide. They point the way through perils fraught, to lead us to the one they call The Shadow~ ♪”[break][break]
It will not be long now. They sail upon a lawless sea. What was once a peaceful realm, held in check by and her navigator, now proves to be more perilous than the land could dare to dream.

The dead man tells no lies. Rain starts to drizzle. Something cries a high, manic cry in the far distance. Two trainers sail into troubled waters, and Navy does so with a smile.[break][break]
“The banshee cried, ‘TURN BACK’, but our resolve was true~♪ ”[break][break]
Pumping his fist into the air, he hears Kyogre’s howl. It rises up from the depths, surveys them with a god’s passive state. Navy he recognizes. They have fought three times before. Kyogre regards him the same way one might regard a spider that simply refuses to die.[break][break]
“We pointed bow ahead and shouted ‘WE’LL BREAK THROUGH’!~ ♪ ”[break][break]
His hand points forward, a command. Slow Dancer, his Glastrier, trots forward. Navy throws himself onto the horse’s back with all the dignity of a warrior king. This battle will be great, but they will triumph. Eris is Hoenn’s future, and his faith in her is absolute.[break][break]
“The jaws of hell can’t hold us back!~ ♪ ”[break][break]
Slow Dancer jumps from the ship. He runs alongside it, freezing ocean tide with every step he takes. Once, this creature was a king’s steed. Now, he bears a warrior into battle. It will make a grand story to tell Calyrex beneath the tree.[break][break]
“There’s nothing that can keep us from The Shadow~♪ ”[break][break]
Kyogre blows a spout of water, sending it at their ship. It threatens disaster. A whistle, and Slow Dancer exhales. His frosted breath freezes the water before it can reach the ship.

They see a Luxray surge with power no mortal Pokemon should have, but Reiner has it. Springtide storm and its fae might are his to call upon, and it sends cherry blossoms into the storm. Kyogre is struck, howling, frantic.[break][break]
“As thunder split the sky,”[break][break]
Navy chants the words, throwing out one of his favorite Pokemon. Roland skates across the ice blown in his path by Slow Dancer. An electric crown appears over his head. The iron swordsman has fought this beast before, and endeavors to do so again.[break][break]
“The lightning drew a shape beyond the tempest’s eye.” [break][break]
Roland calls down a thunderbolt with his blade, empowered by a spreading electric terrain. Kyogre’s answer to this arrogance is an origin pulse.[break][break]
“A chill ran through me spine as legend came alive.”
[break][break]
Slow Dancer cannot out run the attack. All he can do is conjure a cascading avalanche of ice to defend the ship against the pulse. Atop the ice stands Roland, a sentinel in the storm.[break][break]
“AVAST, I cried! All hands as we prepare to take the one they call the Shadow!”[break][break]
Navy, Roland, and Slow Dancer hold the beast at their perfect impasse. They are first into the fray, a blade to strike out in defense of those behind them. He will hold for as long as he must, until Mesprit can do what they came here to do.

Kyogre’s eyes clear thanks to the interference of the spright resting near Eris. Men whisper, wondering if the League’s newest hero and the girl can finally be the ones to capture the panicked sea leviathan. What an ending that would be, what glory.[break][break]
Yet it isn’t to be. Navy sees pain in the god’s golden eyes. It turns upon them in confusion. He can say anything to it, and he truly feels it will hear him.[break][break]
“Go,” the rider says, “in peace. Back to wherever you’re hiding. If you don’t want this, you don’t gotta stay.”[break][break]
It considers, and then it drifts down before the battle can resume. Some part of him regrets losing the opportunity to get revenge on the creature that damn near killed him back in November. The scar on his stomach where rebar pierced him will be there until his dying day. Yet they live, Kyogre lives, and no true harm was done to either party.[break][break]
Returning with his retinue back to their ship, Navy jumps aboard with one mighty leap. Standing there he looks down at Eris and Mesprit.[break][break]
“What happened?” He asks. “Did Mesprit…feel anything?”

No, far beyond that. She can still feel the emotions pulsing within her own chest, duller compared to the last time Mesprit had allowed her a glimpse of Kyogre's heart, but still powerful and uncontrollable nonetheless. And when Navy poses the question, the pixie is the one to answer, chirping as they reach out to take ahold of his hand.[break][break]

Rage is the basin that encapsulates every other feeling, the tip of an iceberg that explains the unyielding storm. Power drives the god, freedom their right that has been observed since time immemorial. And yet, the deeper that one dives into rapture, the darker the shadows that lurk under the surface. Mesprit shows Navy its emotions. The feelings of the primordial god almost crush him. For the breadth of a heartbeat, while his thoughts are truly his own still, he wonders if this is what avatars feel. Then, he is plunged into dark, Shadowy waters. He feels the rage, the freedom, the pull of a cage closing in, the desperate urge to escape that cage. Buckling, he collapses against Slow Dancer’s icy mane. [break][break]
“Fuck…” The word is a rasp in the back of his throat, a desperate urge to vent the pain Mesprit piles upon him. He has never felt something so strongly before, not even when he looked down on his brother’s body after Sootopolis. Hand against his own chest, pupils dilated, he feels the panic of a primordial god.[break][break]
With it comes an emotion all his own: guilt. Guilt for wanting to fight it, relishing the thought of hurting such a creature. It does not rage because it wants to rage, or because it is evil. It rages because it does not even truly understand where it is, when it is in the throes of a rampage.[break][break]
“Eva.” He grunts, redfaced, sitting back up in the saddle. “Eva could help you understand. She’s, she knows all about megas and how it works.” Sweat beads form on his brow, dripping down his face. His next question is for Mesprit.[break][break]
“How the hell do you do it? Exist when feel stuff this strong all the time?”

Mesprit and Eris each give him a revelation. He tries to hide the immediate, instinctual drop in respect. It proves fruitless, and hypocritical to boot. Twenty years ago, before Dewford was attacked by Rocket, he held the same attitude, the same indifference. It is an emotion he knows well, a meal he once enjoyed tasting.[break][break]
Instead, he chooses to dwell on Eris’s words. Her words, he feels, are much more concerning. It makes him think of other reports open to him as a member of AQUA.[break][break]
, backed up by a full powered Groudon, terrifies him. His hand grips Ironsides’s last feather. Many will perish if he gets his hands on the prize he covets.[break][break]
It’s his job to defend them all.[break][break]
“Well, guess we’ll just tell Goode and the rest we chased Kyogre off.” It’s close enough to the truth. A nod at the ship’s captain turns their ship around. They’ll sail back to civilization, away from the Shadow and the black doom of its sails.[break][break]
“Mission complete.” His words are as dry as the tobacco in the cigar he lights.
