RAIN may continue to pour but its intensity has weakened since the start, making it so hitmonlee's BLAZE KICK is only slightly weakened and not entirely hindered.

as flames engulf the fighting-type's leg, it leans into the POWER WHIP, utilizing the flames to pave a way through to find goodra's belly for one final POISON JAB, purple ichor dripping from its fists.

that should bring them level.

the challenge is delayed by more whining, something matias has come to expect from his fellow elite four. despite the flare of annoyance that rises, his expression doesn't change much. all he does is stare across the battlefield as he responds,

Like Matias, Greyson's own expectations of his opponent are not far off.

The Avatar, whether he knew it or not, or even would admit to it, used his excuses as a crutch.

Further words were unnecessary; each crashing and burning against the indomitable mountain of ignorance that was Matias's ego.

They were members of the Elite Four. Let this be settled on the passion Greyson could say they both shared.

the TERA CRYSTALS that cover hitmonlee like a coat of armor begin to crack and crumble, each piece chipped away by damage and time, bringing them close to the end of their use.

in the same blink, hitmonlee meets scizor's BULLET PUNCH with its own, causing a loud clang! along with an impact that reverberates through the chamber.

to call out scizor when their opponent dons FIRE TERA CRYSTALS is cocky, brazen, and arrogant which is exactly what he would have done. it's enough to make him smirk.

a BLAZE KICK follows.

Matias wasn't the only one capable of arrogance, he was simply just more eager to embrace the emotion than Greyson.

But, to no one's surprise, Groudon's Avatar had an effect on people that only brought out their worst.

The force of their blows sends a pressure of air throughout the chamber. Scizor recovers immediately, her other arm raised to deliver a VACUUM WAVE at the incoming kick.

The pressurized air was just brief enough to be considered a powerful gust of wind, than the tornado to which it was typically capable.

With luck, she'd stagger, or at least delay the fighting-type long enough to retaliate with a CROSS POISON.

no order needs to be given for hitmonlee to continue the assault; his pokemon fight the same way he does, treating every fight as though it could potentially be their last; the flames that engulf hitmonlee's leg never subsides. if anything, it only burns brighter as the CROSS POISON connects.

blown back by the VACUUM WAVE as well, hitmonlee tips back, threatening to fall over from the CROSS POISON. it catches itself with its other leg before bouncing forward to throw a BLAZE KICK to scizor's midsection.

the fighting-type's eyes widen, MIND READER active as it predicts what soon follows.

This back-and-forth had to give, so, Vector does just that.

She takes a step into the BLAZE KICK, grunting as the powerful force rattles her exoskeleton and chars her armor. But it was a neccessary sacrifice.

With one hand she reaches out to CLAMP DOWN on the fighting-type's appendage, while the other shoots forward with another BULLET PUNCH this time empowered with the explosive force of a compressed VACUUM WAVE.

MIND READER provides hitmonlee with enough insight to dodge the BULLET PUNCH, its muted brown body turning in time, but the VACUUM WAVE is unpredicted. the explosive force of the attack shatters the remaining TERA CRYSTALS adorning hitmonlee's body and sends it flying back.

it hits the ground, almost unconscious, and struggles to get back up to its feet

"shall we call it here, then?"

he calls over the pouring rain.

Scizor buzzes with dissatisfaction.

The Hitmonlee had been a decent opponent - nothing more. Already the pain of its strike was fading; the perfect expression for how unremarkable this fight had truly been.

Greyson's feelings reflect her own. A frown tilts his lips downward and, after a moment of reflection, shakes his head.

"I'm satisfied. This just reaffirms my suspicions: Avatarship has made you too dependent on strength that isn't your own. Without it, I doubt you'd still have your seat at all."

"just remember, there no stakes here. nothing for either of us to lose or gain. it's entertainment, battling just for the sake of it. don't be dumb enough to tie value and strength to this."

it's as he said: he could go all out and steamroll any and all challengers that come his way, but in doing so he would only gatekeep them from reaching the supposed top. he doesn't see the point in doing that when all that awaits them is a title.

Greyson considers a response for a moment, but the words, half-formed, are cut off.

What would Matias know of struggle? Of dreams and aspirations? Of accomplishment? Of what it felt like you earn something?

He was a Silph. Everything had been given to him.

He was an Avatar. His strength wasn't even his own.

Frowning, but overall accepting that Matias would never change, he recalls Scizor.

As he exits the chamber a faint echo of his voice, asking the Comfey around his wrist if they should get something to eat, permeates through the chamber.
