BOTH OF YOUR CAPTURE ATTEMPTS ARE SUCCESSFUL!

Shalin shrugged at the Cadet's remark. "Carvanha don't typically prey upon Dewott," she answered as the school of dangerous fish dispersed to follow another trail. "Normally they eat small Pokémon that are purely aquatic. There should be plenty of food for them in a bay like this. They should be fine." It was hard to tell both species' motives, but Shalin was confident she made the right call.

Michael having caught the aggressive fish Pokémon through nontraditional means made the Captain whistle. "You're incredible with wild Pokémon. If you ever become an Elite, you will make a great trainer for Rangers looking for help handling wild Pokémon. I bet you could even command a wild Pokémon without a Poké Ball, with the skills you have. Seriously, I'm impressed." She had her own ways of commanding wild Pokémon as well, but ambushing one from above and riding it might rub off on Michael the wrong way...

The other Ranger's praise caused a blush to bloom on Michael's cheeks. He sheepishly scratched the back of his neck, smiling brilliantly as giddiness took over.

"You're too kind, Shalin," the Cadet replied with a chuckle. "You think so, huh? I don't know many who can do that. Is it even possible?"

Michael could say with certainty that th eday had been quite the productive one. Though he had obtained some unique Pokemon, he held out hope that he could find one he loved in particular.

"Do you think we'll meet a Lapras?" he asked, eyes glimmering with excitement. "Or can they be found in other areas in the Region?"

As the duo continued on the route, Michael spotted two Pokemon; Electabuzz, and Omanyte. The latter Pokemon caught his eye more than the former. Fossil Pokemon intrigued him immensely.

"Oh wow! Is that an actual Omanyte? I can't believe my eyes!"

Excitedly, the Cadet trotted over to the ancient mollusk Pokemon. He crouched down, keeping his distance so he wouldn't spook them. He gleefully took out a berry as a peace offering.

"Hey there! I'm just starting my Pokemon adventure. I'd love to recruit you, if that's okay!"

Michael Davis CAUGHT THE OMANYTE!

Shalin thought so, indeed. One skill Rangers worked on was befriending wild Pokémon to help with disasters. It was not uncommon for Rangers to appeal to wild water Pokémon for help with fighting fires. "I can show you if we run into the right Pokémon," she grinned, keeping her eyes out for one.

The topic of a Lapras came up; Shalin had been searching for one, too. Though she didn't expect one would be a particularly wild ride, Lapras were useful for transporting cargo over Hoenn's seas. "If you're looking for a Lapras specifically, you're actually better off searching in the Shoal Cave area, far to the northeast," the Captain suggested. "Lapras prefer colder waters, so we're pretty unlikely to run into one here."

Around a corner of the coastline was a curious sight: a sleeping Gyarados. "This is one of those Pokémon," she whispered before sliding off her crawling Beedrill and stealthily approaching the blue serpent. Once she was next to it, she suddenly reached for its scaly back and pulled herself astride the water-type. Red eyes open upon feeling the Ranger climb onto its back, the wild began to buck and thrash. The white-knuckled cowgirl held on tight as her unruly mount flung her back and forth with its massive frame, the girl wondering how much she could wear it out before having to drop her palmed Poké Ball onto it...

The bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Ranger Cadet watched Shalin mount the Gyarados in utter amazement! Such a sight reminded of the Rodeo that Michael and his family attended when he was a child. Although the cowboy who rode the bucking Tauros didn't hold a candle to Shalin as she tussled with the long sea serpent!

"Yeah! You go, Shalin!" Michael cheered! "Ride that Gyarados!"

The Cadet knew it was all in good fun. As Pokemon and Humans shared this earth together, interacting with them in such a way didn't do any harm. This was especially true for the Water Flying dual-type Pokemon, being so large and strong. Shalin didn't seek to hurt the Gyarados, so it was all in good fun.
