Shalin frowned when asked about her Sygna Pokémon. "I didn't bring her with me, but Petalburg Plateau isn't very far," she replied. "When we're done with the Arcanine, though, I can make a quick trip to grab her." It was one of the disadvantages of not using the Pokémon Storage System; while her Pokémon could be independent and roam the vast world outside their Poké Balls, she had to physically travel back to Petalburg Woods if she wanted to swap Pokémon out.

The Arcanine's acceleration was smooth but constant. Going against her instincts, she followed Thomas' lead, doing her best to imitate his posture the best she could as she leaned into the wind. The air around Rufus and her howled, then whistled as the ranch flew by faster and faster. An overwhelming sensation overcame her body, but not of dizziness. Of euphoria. Was this what Mauville's Gym Leader felt when he raced on his very fastest Pokémon?

Shalin didn't respond to Thomas, instead remaining focused on keeping her cool. She kicked at Rufus' sides one more time once their speed had leveled off, silently indicating to the Arcanine that she was ready to sprint.

The world around Shalin turned into a sea of colors from the big dog's EXTREME SPEED, feeling an odd tingling sensation as Rufus' legs vanished into a continuous blur. After listening to Thomas' advice on how to remain balanced, she realized she just needed a little enlightenment. It was like riding her bug-types by their wings, only instead of the momentum shifting back and forth countless times, it was all in one direction. Shalin wasn't ignoring Thomas; it just took all of her concentration to remain in control of the dashing canine.

With the end of the property in distant sight, Shalin loosened her legs' hold on Rufus, a command for the Pokémon to slow to a stop before they rammed and trampled the fence. The girl was sweating and looked breathless from the run, but she didn't look dizzy like she did before. "You really... did help a lot..." she managed, bracing against Rufus as she allowed the numbness to slowly leave her body. "Was that his legs humming?"
