Nenet smiles. It is not a warm smile, nor cold. Instead it is a secretive one: one that says nothing that has been said is quite right. "Not quite," is what she says, without further comment. She sips at her coffee, listening as Elisabeth continues.

"They're not," Nenet then agrees with a shrug of her own, "but I'm here now and I suppose that's what matters." She then shakes her head, glancing away in thought. Whoever attacked her was dead if their identity ever became known - Zev would make sure of it.

"You should let me know how your crystablooms experiment goes, however. I don't know a whit about them but I would be curious nonetheless. The blood samples will be posted.. wherever all of their date goes." She laughs, trailing off while making a vague gesture with her hand.

Her old crystabloom experiments seemed small and hardly of great import these days, but having the genuine interest of a scientist reignited that desire to explore and to learn.[break][break]

It only occurred to Elisabeth later that for how long as they'd talked, it didn't seem like she'd learned much about Neffatari Nzingha at all -- which was, to be fair, quite fine by the underboss. The more people knew one another, the likelier it was they irritated and annoyed one another.[break][break]

The amount of distance between them remained pleasant and professional, inviting a sense of comradery without the unwanted vulnerability such a relationship would inevitably entail.[break][break]

Perhaps that was why, when Elisabeth finally turned to leave, she glanced behind her to offer, "If you need anything in your own scientific endeavors... feel free to name Underboss Fiorelli has sponsored your research."[break][break]

An alliance now silently struck, Elisabeth departed feeling far more pleased with her progress than when she'd arrived.
