The trail to the Sky Pillar was swept by strong winds that would have blown the Champion's hair around were he not wearing his racing helmet. Necky's talons grabbed onto the small grass field growing near the rocky coast's shore as she swooped in to land, battling gusts the entire time. With skillful guidance from her rider, the Fearow had touched down without incident. He had a lot of practice to do if he wanted to get some of his new recruits up to snuff, including his most recent one. The Sky Pillar had to be remote enough that no one would witness him here, right?

Once Josh rode to the Sky Pillar's entrance, he slid off Zacama's back and withdrew both birds, keeping them safe in their Poké Balls in the event of a massive surge of electricity. He was dealing with a legendary Pokémon whose powers were largely unknown. As much as he gorged himself on Raikou's lore back in Johto, Swift was a very different Beast. He unpinned the RAINBOW FEATHER from his shirt, held its quill between his fingers, and drew the first stroke of the Sign that would call his holy partner forth.

What he didn't expect to interrupt him was the presence of a familiar companion that would derail plans to saddle up and train with the ashen Beast...

Adventure. It was a good thing, right? At least, that's what Masha kept telling herself as she made the trek up to the sky pillar. The way to the entrance wasn't as difficult as the tower itself. Or so she'd heard....she wouldn't really know herself. That said, the cliff it sat on was usually empty, abandoned in a way. Masha knew she would likely be alone once she got there, with nothing but the wind and the sound of the ocean to keep her company.

Or so she thought.

She would have never expected for Josh to be there. Why would he be? She had no doubt he would be busy doing...gym things in Mauville city. Right? That was his life. Battle and take care of his pokemon. That was the same life she wanted. So why would he be up on a cliff, right up beside the sky pillar, drawing....something....in the air with a feather? Was it a feather? Masha screwed her eyes up a bit, trying to see better from where she stood. Part of her - the part that was young and shy - said to back away and leave. He would never know she'd seen him at all that way. But another part - the part that she had labeled her adult half - wanted to approach him and let him know she was there. Maybe he would tell her, maybe he wouldn't. But it was a risk, and she'd been trying to take more of those lately.

So Masha had to make a choice, there, in the daylight and the breeze. And it just so happened, she made the adult choice.

She approached slowly, almost sneaking up on him really. Once she was close behind, just slightly to the right, she tried to peer past his shoulder unsuccessfully. She was tall, but not that tall. At least, not yet. "....um.....Josh?"

By the time Masha had tried to grab Josh's attention, it was too late; he had already drawn the final stroke of the Sign. The SACRED ASH hung in the air, electrifying the complete emblem. A loud thunderclap may have deafened the onlooker as the monochrome Beast took form, a roar indistinguishable from the echoing boom he materialized alongside.

His heartbeat multiplied when Masha called out to him, Josh and the Raikou facing his friend. "...Masha, I'm sorry to be so abrupt with this, but you have to promise me you will speak with no one about what you just saw. Otherwise... I may have to resort to drastic measures." He didn't want to come off as threatening, but he could not afford a single information leak. If Rocket knew Kyle's power had been passed down rather than lost, the League would lose a huge strategic edge in the Sootopolis invasion.

There was a clap of thunder, sudden and harsh. Masha stared, open mouthed as....was that RAIKOU???

Well now, she was very, very lost.

Masha's gaze was fixed on then legendary pokemon for several long moments before slowly, it switched to Josh himself. He was staring at her as if she had interrupted something. So much for being an adult then, right? She blinked as he started to speak. He apologized first, which caused her brows to crease. And then he was telling her to keep it a secret. Or else. He didn't say that last part, but it hung in the air between them anyway.

A beat of silence. Then two.

"What...WHAT?" The word burst out before she could stop it. Her hands balled into fists at her sides. She wasn't sure if she was angry or upset. Maybe both. There was surprise mixed into it all as well. Her mouth pressed into a thin line and she looked away from him, a flush appearing on her cheeks. "Are we friends?" she asked. She lifted a foot and dug her toe into the dirt viciously. "Because if we are....you could have just asked."

She took a sudden step towards him, leaving only a few inches of space. He was so tall that it hardly made any sort of impact, but at least he would know for sure that she was angry now. "What kind of drastic measures-" she said the words in a mocking tone, even using a motion with her hand to emphasize what he'd said. "would you have to use?" The crease between her brows grew more pronounced and she set her feet shoulder length apart, as if readying herself for a fight. "You might be able to beat me in battle, but I'm like a little TORNADO in a fight!"

She wasn't entirely sure what she was saying anymore. She only knew that she was angry and now she was lashing out. Very uncharacteristically too.

"...We are," Josh exhaled, the moment of panic getting the best of him when it mattered most to stay calm. "Please... just please promise you won't tell anyone about Raikou. It's a matter of regional security," he pleaded with Masha.

The threat was met with an equally violent threat. "I don't want to fight. I really don't," he continued to beg of his friend, Swift crouching down as the Champion slowly backed away. Were Masha to allow Josh to get close to the Raikou, he would swing his leg above and across the Beast's back, taking a seat in the middle of the black thundercloud that looked like it could erupt with electricity at any moment. "I just need your word that you will keep Raikou a secret until I make the reveal on public news media at a later date."
