In his world, it doesn’t matter where Diancie came from. Gods, too, are born. Even the Creator’s children were hatched from an egg if the stories are to be believed. Her past doesn’t seem to matter. What matters is that she’s here, she’s willing to help…[break][break]

A lack of Carbink in this area means that the kingdom would've been left all alone, forever waiting for a princess that would never come back. But if she has no royal duties, this place must feel like a ki- no, a home to her.[break][break]

Another clearing of the throat, a question inserted serves as something that trips her right up. And she stops, looking towards Navy as she tries to process what he's asked.[break][break]

"Mmm... Carbink are made from high temperatures and pressure underground. As are most diamonds... as far as I remember, most of their colours come from other stuff mixed in. There’s a story there, but it’s a sad one.[break][break]
Hattori chooses now to return with the mega stone. How he, a Pokemon, managed to adequately explain the need to someone, Navy doesn’t know. He assumes that everyone at HQ recognizes Hattori at this point. It would be hard for them to not remember a burned, black Greninja with one eye. Hattori presents the stone up to Navy, who holds it up to the light.[break][break]
“Weird, it looks like any other mega stone to me. So…you wanna have a sparring match with Diancie, Eris, or ask her more questions?”

Diancie floats away from them with enviable serenity. As she rises, she takes on the countenance of a worthy foe. Strange, how she go from a receptive princess to a warring queen so easily, and still look so calm about the whole ordeal.[break][break]
Navy takes her mega stone, affixing it to his wristwatch. One of them will have to pay the price for her mega evolution. It may as well be him. It’s not like Shuwen or Hattori necessarily need to mega evolve.[break][break]
“Want me to mega evolve her right away?” The question is asked while he throws out his own Pokemon. Hattori takes to the field again, only to grunt in pain. Somewhere around his shoulder, a jagged rock cut into him. It isn’t a serious wound, but it is a wound.[break][break]
Diancie’s smile remains serene. She acts as if she has done nothing at all, like she never scattered stealth rocks around the field at the first mention of a spar.

Funnily enough, even as sharp fragments linger in the air, they can barely shear through his coat. And the pieces that do manage to nick his hock only add to the crosshatching of fading scars.[break][break]

Still, it'd be best to clear the field of major hazards. The wind stirs through the underground, coaxing the rocks into a friendly waltz as petals flutter into the fray. A Springtide Storm introduces the seasons in a vivid stream of colours, individual petals shredded upon jagged edges whereas clumps of them swallow rock fragments whole. In doing so, they form brand new projectiles, each slung in the monarch's direction with extra weight.[break][break]

She wonders if they can live up to a legend's expectations.

Springtide Storm is met by a diamond storm. Sakura petals blast against diamonds sharpened to a swordpoint sheen. Diancie’s regal bearing gives way to determined anger. She plays to win, no matter the game. Navy is reminded, once again, of how powerful these beings can be when they put their mind towards a task. The diamonds make approaching her impossible. They move with her will, wholly focused on protecting the princess.[break][break]
It would take pinpoint accuracy to breach her perfect defense. A glance down at Hattori tells him what to do. Water Shuriken fly through the storm of diamond feylight. Once, then another, and another. Three shuriken, thrown at different points, knocking enough diamonds out of place for the final shuriken to fly and hit Diancie.[break][break]
She huffs in frustration, the unexpected blow pushing her back.[break][break]
“Don’t think she liked getting hit.” Navy says, seeming to enjoy the notion of hurting Diancie as much as she enjoyed being hurt. The stone on Navy’s wrist begins to glow. “Better press the advantage quick, looks like that made her mad.”

As Diancie stumbles from impact, the duo are already taking that very next step. Reiner rushes forwards, ready to face the glimmering storm. And Eris simply raises her hand up high, the air crackling and prickling at patchwork skin.[break][break]

"Split the skies!"[break][break]

The rock beneath Diancie shatters, disturbed and churned by lightning that will not remain grounded. Thunder snarls as the atmosphere grows dense, electricity chanting prayers that are woven into blinding armour. Energy thrums with Reiner's advance, an uncontrolled current exploding from Diancie's position and streaking through her diamond storm.[break][break]

Not quite enough to blast open a true path, never strong enough to shatter her creations. But perhaps, just enough to disrupt the flow of the storm, to reduce his obstacles to a manageable field of crystals that he can attempt to weave through.

She is beset on all sides by force that should be powerless before her. Like many legendary beings of this precise where and when, Diancie is being given a lesson in how stubborn humans can be. They have been given power beyond their means. In this world, even a mere Luxray can do battle with the jeweled maiden. A frog can feint a god. A beast can be a hero.[break][break]
Diancie, too, has her tricks. As the attack takes her, she is enveloped in blinding white light. When she emerges, her beauty is terrible to behold. Her constitution affords her the luxury of weathering the blows, but she knows she can’t keep that up forever. Instead, she gathers power along her right hand. Moonlight gathers there, moonlight meant to rend the stars above.[break][break]
A moonblast flies at Reiner and his human companion, all of a legendary being’s terrible fury visited upon them.

Light slips from between the gaps of her fingers, radiance flowing from her palm and weaving into the threads of her clothing. Constellations flutter in her wake, a rhythm breathed into life as a lionheart begins to beat within their chest.[break][break]

Never one without the other. They'll draw down the stars and weave their fate upon the earth. Electricity roars, burns bright and blazes a trail through the dust and smoke. Lightning claws sing an unending hymn, call upon faith and aim to strike true.

Diancie was so caught up in the momentary display of true synchronization between mon and girl.[break][break]
That awe, too, passes. It is met by a roaring indignant yell, unbecoming of a princess. Light gathers, reflected in alexandrite splendor. Another blast will come. She turns the very ground beneath their feet into her domain, raising a jagged spear of stone from the ground to tear apart the interlopers.[break][break]
Eris and Reiner both disappear. Diancie blinks, only to see the substitute that replaced them deflate upon the edge of a brilliant pink gem. Hattori gently places both of them down, falling into place beside them.[break][break]
“I think that just ‘bout does it.” Navy says, inserting himself once more into the play. Stepping forward, he wears the same casual, practiced nonchalance as always. “Come on, Diancie. Looks like we’ll call it a dr-”[break][break]
She launches another moonblast, this one aimed at Hattori. It skirts over his head, the miniscule Greninja saved by his reaction time. Laying flat against the ground, he feels his body singed by moonlight.

Once upon a time, the bejeweled princess was a legend she had vowed to seek out and unravel the truth behind. If someone were to have gone to Eris in the past and told her that she'd face Diancie one day in a genuine battle, she wouldn't have been able to imagine it.[break][break]

Hell, she can barely process the fact that they've actually left a mark against her. And perhaps, now isn't the right time to be doing so. Hattori buys them time, precious seconds that are only extended by the way that he's drawn Diancie's ire. Slamming her hands against the ground, she can feel her fingertips go numb as electricity floods the terrain.[break][break]

"Don't just stand there, Navy!"[break][break]

Her thoughts received, her will be done. A catalyst to his reaction, the exuding static builds upon the power that he already possesses. Char fills the air, floods their lungs as adrenaline pushes each of them further. Rising Voltages ascend into ion storms, lashing out at the princess for daring even a second to look at another.

Diancie speaks a word with all the terrible fury of a thunderstorm. Diamonds gather around her once more, diamonds pulling themselves from the wall and crystallizing in realm time. She speaks in furious rebuke and terrible retribution, indignant that they would push her this far. She speaks a word.[break][break]
“DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!”[break][break]
Navy knows she simply speaks her own name, but the word tastes like a command. Things tread the line between practice and true danger. Every Pokemon has instincts like these, and a royal princess has her pride. There’s only one thing that he can think to say.[break][break]
“You win!” She pauses, her storm still blowing on autopilot. “You win, your majesty! Uncle. We can’t do anything.” It wounds his pride to say the words, but he sees how Eris, Reiner, and Hattori all look. To push this further is to risk disaster for no gain whatsoever. Instead, he humbles himself, says his word, and lets the matter die there.[break][break]
She relaxes, and the build-up of infinity energy releases like a steam valve. Diancie is normal again, a prim and proper princess. She coos apologetically, only a hint of smugness in her voice. Stepping over to Eris, Navy bends down.[break][break]
“You alright, kiddo?”
