His voice was flat. Candid. There was nothing to hide, and no reason to lie. In this mocking masquerade, there was no reason to dispense the truth or hide behind false pretenses. What point was there? Howard could say anything. He could do anything, barring bashing his cellmate's head into the wall.

That would have been refreshing. The urge to hit someone, to feel flesh cave in under the ceaseless beating of fists.

"But I can't. Even if I did, I wouldn't get to live long enough to enjoy the satisfaction of my labor." He leaned back against the wall, watching as a Megalopolan marched by. "I'd die, and the dead see nothing and think even less. Perhaps I'm both blind and stupid."

He turned back to her.

"You will win this war. I wish you the best in reaching the ending you seek." His voice was low. "But the corpses we leave on the side of the road will become your legacy. I started nothing, and I'll end nothing."

He'd kill her. Justice for his friend. Revenge for humiliating him on the battlefield.

"It's like I said, I'm just a cog."

"You lack accountability," she sighed, finally falling back down onto the cot, letting its discomfort seep through her skin. It was a stark contrast to the luxury that normally kissed her back. So roughly made, with purposes to harm, the thin piece of cloth was another reflection staring back at her. Presenting moral quandaries better left shut tightly in the furthest corners of her mind.

The only sound in the cell was the mingling of breath and the march of the Megalopolan outside. Oh, how this woman hated him. Not that he could blame her, he hated her just as much. It had been a long day of misery, and he did not despise this small ounce of human connection.

"I'm fine with that. A hypocrite is just someone in the process of changing."

Maybe she was right, and that every member of Team Rocket was responsible for the war in Hoenn. She was likely correct, after a sense, but to delegate them all as guilty was an inflexibility that would haunt the councilwoman in the days to come. He had put on the mask and had seen misery.

She was just as hypocritical as he. Change in motion.

What did she think of the Amnesty Program? She struck the admin as someone who despised it. Maybe that was why her world was made of ash and cooked meat.
