This was not the Moltres that had forsaken her in her corrupted form, yet the Galarian bird is more alike in its own malevolence than any of Hoenn's have ever been.[break][break]

Cillian smiles softly as he looks up at them, allowing his patron's glee to salve his own emotions.[break][break]

MOLTRES cooed and clicked low tones toward LUGIA, sounding apparently amicable in nature, while doing a bit of mid-air acrobatics around the Shadow Pokémon. Talons grazed the other's dark-tinted feathers before fluttering away — possibly to instigate play of some sort?[break][break]

Barnaby wasn't too sure. His focus was divided, after all, by LUGIA's Avatar.[break][break]

"I'm surprised they're already getting along so well."[break][break]

Could the two inherently recognize their similar — sinister — qualities?[break][break]

Meanwhile, a friendly DEWGONG frolicked in the boat's wake. Noticing this, BARNABY FINCH threw a Luxury Ball its way. He could always use more Ice-Types to add to his collection.

An ARAQUANID skates across the surface of the water, seemingly curious about the vessel that cuts through its territory. The SHADOW STORM that manifests around them isn't targeted at the bug, but Cillian tosses a ball when it's caught within the cyclone's sway.[break][break]

A glance skyward suggests that, instead, the STORM was meant to impress Moltres. Cillian can't remember the last time Lugia had tried to impress anyone.[break][break]

Graceful in spite of her size, the Guardian swipes at Moltres with her spiked tail, careful to only impact with the flat of its bone-white blades. Her song echoes through the air, beautiful even in its corruption.[break][break]

"Like calls to like, I suppose."[break][break]

After all, were Barnaby and Cillian not friends who understood each other's sinister qualities?[break][break]

Cillian Quinn couldn't have been more correct. Above them, an acrobatic display of swirling flame and creeping darkness played out. Surprisingly, there was an equitable give-and-take, with MOLTRES screeching in faux-disdain at being hit by LUGIA's tail. In response, it released a burst of magenta as a means of conveying its (not-so-serious) FIERY WRATH.[break][break]

Below, a SHUPPET just so happened to be caught in the crossfire [break][break]

"Cillian," Turning, Barnaby set his attention on the underboss now. "While I enjoy seeing them like this..."[break][break]

He let the implication hang in the air for a moment before continuing.[break][break]

"I know he told you about it. And now that Neffatari Nzingha has joined our organization..." Sighing, Barnaby ran his hand through his hair.[break][break]

"I wanted you to know that I'm the one who hurt her."[break][break]

In the background, MOLTRES' attention fell on a huge SAMUROTT swimming toward the boat. Annoyed by its presence, it swooped down and used its FROST BREATH to freeze the wild Pokémon in place.

A SHEDINJA goes unnoticed as Cillian's focus narrows on the Admin. There's an intensity in his gaze that suggests that whatever Barnaby says next will shift his mood accordingly.[break][break]

He nods along, guessing where this is going even before Bee confesses.[break][break]

"He seemed to feel entitled to revenge, as though we were meant to have known his wife was working with the League." Contempt curls Cillian's lip. "He was furious when I refused to take action. But I will punish no Rocket for doing their job. If she'd wanted to avoid conflict, she should have stayed out of our way."[break][break]

Of course, Zev hadn't seen it that way. And though Cillian had made his stance clear, he knew the Beast's temperament.[break][break]

"Have you met with her since? Is there a chance she might recognize you?" They could hope not, but... "Regardless, I will stand with you against Harcourt if it comes to that."

Behind Cillian Quinn, the admin saw a GASTLY skulking in the shadows of the captain’s cabin, watching them intently. Its eerie eyes were unsuccessfully blinking off sleep – a condition brought on by Barnaby’s EEVEE, Pepin, who YAWNED as he turned the corner to check on the two men.

"So how do you find it?" He turns back to Barnaby, curiosity kindled in his eyes. "Avatarship."
