As soon as you begin to conjure ideas of what your gym may look like, the world around you shifts. The TERA CRYSTAL glows as it creates a gym for you, including a badge, gym trainers, challengers.[break][break]

Inwardly, you can't say you feel particularly different inside the RKS System than without. Then again, you've never really thought about it before. Maybe if you did, it would make things easier? Oh well.

"Really?" You raise an invisible eyebrow to the admin, before shrugging. "Okay, whatever you say."

In a way, this is a dream come true. When you were a kid, you always wanted to be a Gym Leader, or a Champion, or something of that ilk. For better or for worse, life took you on a different path, but now? You've got the opportunity to live out that dream, so you might as well take it: What kind of gym leader would you be?

The Tera Crystals resonate, and the world around you changes.

It... Really doesn't look much different from the gym back at Spikemuth, does it? Grungy, urban, filled with thumping music and neon lights... Sure, there's little differences here and there, but otherwise, it's not far off. It even has the Galarian Zigzagoon digging in the trash, just like you remember! Man, good times, good times...

Holy shit, you're a hack fraud.

You glance around nervously, as though expecting some overbearing teacher to catch you copying homework and pull out the cane. Part of you even wants to redesign it entirely. But, after a moment of deliberation, you decide to keep it as is. It might be blatant plagarism, but it's honest, too.

As the world took shape around them, BARNABY FINCH scrutinized it with a critical eye.[break][break]

"Hmm... isn't this that one gym in Galar?" Unbeknownst to Shred, Barnaby had studied in Galar for several years and had thus seen Spikemuth's gym in passing when it was on television, social media, etc. In other words, it was pretty obvious Shred was a fraud.[break][break]

Before he could comment much else, a simulated kyle lopez appeared to give his own input.[break][break]

"Hell yeah this place looks poggers."[break][break]

As if on cue, multiple GALARIAN ZIGZAGOON scrambled out of a trash can and ran over to Kyle, who promptly squated down to give the little dudes some chin scritches.[break][break]

"The only thing missing are regular Zigzagoons instead of Galarian ones. I mean, this is Hoenn, right?"[break][break]

Still, the gym passes. However, while everyone celebrated its approval, BARNABY FINCH's eye was drawn to the newly-materialized power spot and its magenta glow.

"Nope." You lie, looking around the all-too-familiar gym as though you'd never seen it before. "Spikemuth didn't really have a gym. You must be thinking of something else."

Fortunately for you, the spectre of Kyle Lopez has risen from the dead to save you from further scrutiny. It's a little weird, seeing the guy stroll in. He's barely even been dead for a few days, and yet, here he is. Something about watching this digital soul strolling about your facsimile of a gym feels horribly unethical. Somehow even worse than all the normal crimes that Team Rocket do. If this RKS tech ever leaks and the big corporations get their hands on it? Oof.

You cross your arm and look at the once-traffic-cop now-gym-inspector as he pets the monochrome Zigzagoon.

"They have Galarian Zigzagoon in Hoenn too, y'know." You mutter under your breath. "It's not wrong. It's a creative choice."

Still, you've passed the inspection, somehow. Which shouldn't be surprising, considering it passed the inspections in Galar, too. Still, it feels like you've just witnessed a minor miracle. But the fun and games are over now, and the novelty of this little exercise is all said and done. Time to wrap this up and head deeper into the simulation.

"Barnaby!" You call out, looking in the direction of the man. "I'm heading out now, so..."

You trail off as your eye catches on the magenta glow of a Power Spot.

"Huh. Don't remember adding that. Anyway... C'mon, let's get out of here."

"Right..." He replied, fully intending to follow, but BARNABY FINCH's gaze lingered on the POWER SPOT for a few seconds longer. Something inside of him — some innate, primal yearning — urged him closer. It was a temptation blissfully cut short by the pixelation of their surroundings.[break][break]

Soon enough, a dreary, familiar landscape formed around the pair of ROCKETs.[break][break]

ETERNATUS loomed overhead, but Barnaby couldn't help but recall NECROZMA. The two would always be intertwined in his recollections.[break][break]

"My memory's a bit hazy. Were you in Galar during the Darkest Day? Or had you made it to Hoenn by then?" The admin asked over his shoulder as he approached a small stone altar, inlaid with both a SWORD and a SHIELD.[break][break]

His hands grasped the shield's guige, lifting it from its resting place.

Poisoned skies above, ruined cities below, and an apocalypse in the making, looming above it all. Something about standing here tickles your brain in an unpleasant way. Like watching a movie you've never seen before, but you remember all the scenes. Still, you shake your head and push ahead.

"Neither. I only got to Hoenn last year, and I left Galar... Well, a while ago, that's for sure. Darkest Day? Would've been... Around Sinnoh, for me. Maybe Paldea. Maybe Unova."

Hard to remember. The Darkest Day, and where you were when it happened.

As you come across the strange weapons, Barnaby reaches for the shield, and you let him take it. Evidently, he knows more about what's going on here than you. So, you'll let him solve this particular mystery.

"Either way, I haven't been back in Galar for years, going on decades. It's really none of my business anymore, y'know?"

Absorbing the nearby metals strewn across the battlefield, the Zamazenta ascends to its regal form. As the Fighting Master's Shield, the gilded Zamazenta beckons for you to fight alongside it.[break][break]

Ahead, Dynamax Pokemon stomp across Galar like bloodthirsty titans. Eternatus fires a DYNAMAX CANNON toward your position.

He didn't looked surprised by this; instead, the admin casually handed the shield over to ZAMAZENTA and continued where he left off, "I feel the same way about Kalos, I suppose. Hoenn's problems certainly take up enough of my attention."[break][break]

The dog, newly transformed, rushed into the fray. [break][break]

Just as he'd done before during his own time here in this poisoned place, BARNABY FINCH released his CHARIZARD onto the war-torn battlefield, allowing it to GIGANTAMAX as a protective force against ETERNATUS' DYNAMAX CANNON.

Seriously, why the fuck was Hoenn so busy? Living a month here is like living six in any other region. Interdimensional terrorists to the left of you, divine dragons to the right, and here you are, stuck grinding a computer simulation for dubious glimpses of the future. You'd find it funny, if it weren't so infuriating.

Zamazenta rushes forth, and Barnaby gigantamaxes to defend against the Dynamax Cannon. You don't bother helping. Why would you? It's not like they hand you a Dynamax Band whenever you step into the RKS Simulation. No, you'll let him to the heavy lifting here.

Behemoth Bash and Dynamax Cannon and Dynergy Barriers all crash and collide together in an searing flash of light. But when the brilliance fades and you blink the blindness from your eyes, you find yourself far flung from the battlefield you once were...
