Following a spelunking adventure that had left their Pokémon completely exhausted, the group set camp in Area Zero’s depths for some much-needed respite and a meal consisting of homemade sandwiches.

Not many words were exchanged during the break, since they were all too busy stuffing their faces. And who could blame them? To taste anything that was not mochi felt like a godsend.

“Alright, that’s enough rest. Time to get back to work.” Said Andrea, while using a spare napkin to wipe Ogerpon’s mouth clean. It turned out she was quite the messy eater. “Are you ready to pummel that sparkly rock again?”

“Pon! Pon!” The ogress cried excitedly.

However, as the group returned to the large Tera Crystal to resume excavating it, they would find something amiss: Interdream Mist had encroached on the entire section of the cave.

“Stay close to me, Johanna. I have a bad feeling about this…” The young PokéManiac muttered, a hand instinctively reaching for her Pokéballs.

Memories of the past were easily pushed aside by the smell and taste of delicious sandwiches. How easily Mochi-caused fear was eradicated by company and proper food.

But they could not sit there and eat forever. No, they had to return to their task. That large Tera Crystal would not excavate itself.

But as they returned they saw Interdream Mist Encroaching. Andrea offered protection. Johanna accepted the offer with a firm nod, yet she had all intentions of fighting as well. Her hand reached for a Pokéball of her own, while she felt the Palossand growing tense on her body. Hardening itself as an armor of sorts.

The cotton candy-colored fog grew thicker and thicker, feeding off their repressed traumas and the nightmares keeping them up at night, until…

“Grrrific!”
“Mmm-kiii!”
“Poot!”

Andrea was paralyzed by fear at the sight of the Toxic Chained mutt, monkey, and bird. “No, it can’t be… Y-you’re dead! W-we killed you!” She blurted out in a state of abject shock, her breathing getting more and more erratic.

Without hesitation, the former wardens of the Weakling, Dummy, and Ugly wards attacked the group with raw fighting prowess, telekinesis, and ephemeral pheromones.

Though temporarily manifested through the power of the Tera Crystal, these dollar store versions of the Lousy Three were just as dangerous as their flesh-and-blood counterparts.

“GRAAAAUGH!! POOOOOON!!!!”

Ogerpon charged to her caretaker’s rescue, though in reality, she was out for blood. All of the never-rot’s creations deserved death. The Oni’s demonic rage took the form of a Stomping Tantrum that shook the very earth.

No, that can’t be.

Knees weak, hands trembling. She should grab her Pokéballs and get into action, but she couldn’t. The sight of their former wardens instilled pure fear in her. Though she tried to remind herself that they were long dead, she couldn’t quite let go of the fear. The fear made her tense, unable to move.

But Palossand felt no such restrictions. All it felt was anger. Anger at the sight of those monsters, anger at the knowledge of what they did and what it had been incapable of doing. It wasn’t going to fail now.

Sand rushed out from Johanna’s clothes, flying toward the fake-Munkidori. A Brown orange hue shimmered as it dragged the very ground with it using EARTH POWER, ripping rock apart converting it to sand and increasing its mass into a veritable tidal wave of sand intent on destroying its enemy.

Munkidori screeched at the sentient sandcastle, meeting its assault with a wave of psychic energy. However, Ogerpon’s Stomping Tantrum made the simian retainer lose its footing.

Watching its partner in crime get buried under a mountain of sand, Okidogi charged towards Johanna on all fours, registering the shell-shocked human as easier prey.

“J-Johanna!” Andrea cried out, the sight of a friend in mortal peril jump-starting her body into action. “Go, Chomp--” She was about to throw her Pokéball, but then, Fezandipiti’s paralyzing pheromones caused her body to go stiff again.

“PON!!”

With a scourging Power Whip, the maskless Oni swatted the beauty-obsessed bird away, saving the dragon maiden from getting sliced by its razor-sharp feathers.

Sand met with psychic waves splashing upward in an almost beautiful arc before covering the monkey.

But the monkey was not alone. Okidogi charged at Johanna. Frozen in fear there was little she could do. But realising its trainer was in danger the sandcastle hurried back to protect her.

Strands of sand flew as quickly as the ghost could carry itself, reforming in front of Johanna tall and mighty like an impenetrable castle shining with EARTHen POWER before diving forward intent on giving the Okidogi the same treatment as its monkey partner.

Sure enough, Okidogi was also buried in a grave of sand. Being temporary manifestations, this imaginary iteration of the dastardly trio sported paper thin defenses.

Fezandipiti was the last enemy left standing. With a flap of its wings, the avian retainer blew a gust of immobilizing pheromones towards the group. However, Ogerpon was far too angry to be affected.

“PON! PON!”

The cocky bird was ensnared by a bunch of vines. Any attempt to escape only tightened their ruthless grip. Thorns dug into flesh, eliciting pained squawks.

Seeing the face of one of their former tormentors in agony made Andrea realize that there was no reason to fear them. They were pathetic creatures. Disgustingly pathetic.

“Tear his wings off. Make him suffer.” The young woman ordered with a stone-cold expression, her unprecedented sadistic side making her sound almost like a deranged Rocket member.

There would be no mercy. Only forsake.
