Though Josh was a savant with electric Pokémon, he was far from an electrician. It was rare for him to go beneath Mauville's street level and to its underground power grid. A city constrained by its geographic location, it could not be built out; it could only be built up. Or in this case. down.

"One of the generators is significantly over production capacity. According to this report, been running at almost 200% for a few hours now," Josh answered, producing a manila folder and handing it to his partner if she wanted to read it. "Gym Leader Devlin, but please, you can call me Josh," he introduced himself. "Great to be working with you."

As the duo rounded a corner and headed downstairs, Josh shared the plan with Ana. "I've got a whole belt of electric Pokémon with me. I'll have them absorb as much excess power from the generator as they can. In theory, this should drop the power output long enough for GMH to send out a team that can implement a more permanent solution."

If even a professional like ana fell shivered, it must have been even more serious than Josh imagined. "If we let it overflow any more, it's definitely gonna blow. And that'll cause damage a lot worse than simple property damage." Such a large explosion would almost certainly result in a loss of human life, too. That was a loss that a value could truly not be assigned to.

With that, Josh undid the latches holding two Poké Balls on his belt. Releasing the Pokémon inside, Toralf the Raichu and Etali the Kilowattrel appeared in flashes of white and yellow light. Both of them wore saddles and were quite large for their kind, especially the Raichu. Moving about on all fours, the electric vermin touched one of his cheeks to the side of the generator while the large bird aoared to its top. "We don't want to drop the charge too quickly, either. Mind keeping an eye on the readings for me?"

Though Josh was no electrician, he knew enough about the element from his Gym to be aware of its volatility. "On it!" the young man replied, returning a thumbs up to Ana. "Alright, Etali and Toralf, on three! One... two... three!"

On "three", both the electric Pokémon began absorbing power from the generator. The readings slowly came down, though they remained high for the time being. "Oh, I never properly introduced myself, did I?" Josh asked, his eyes shifting back and forth between his companion and his Pokémon. "Champion Devlin or Elite Ranger Devlin, but please, Josh is good. What about you? If you said your name, I missed it, and I apologize."
