When he heard about this dating sim shit, Ezra couldn’t believe it. That kind of shit—turning everyone into a character—seemed pretty illegal.

Not wanting to start with the losers he knew, he pulled up some adventure route. He didn’t know who this green-haired bitch was, but it seemed pretty straightforward. He wondered if Leon Settentrioné had played this thing.

Shalin is visibly upset as you criticize her unusual choice of mount. She storms off on the back of her blue-eyed wasp, leaving you on your own to get there. Once the two explorers arrive, Shalin recalls her noisy Beedrill, landing squarely on her feet as her mount disappears from underneath her. "We're here! C'mon, let's take a look inside!"[break][break]

As the two of you approach the entrance, a sign warning of the lethality of the dangers within the crypt, Shalin takes out her stack of six of the Medallions of Eight. "Only two remain. One is here, deep within the Forbidden Crypt. Getting permission to come here was a nightmare, but I get the feeling this is going to be even more of a nightmare. The other one is somewhere in Mount Chimney, but the heat there makes it hard to make headway on finding it. Then there's a matter of sneaking back into Lake Sootopolis. I'm sure they won't let me back in there again easily..."[break][break]

Switching ride Pokémon to Letheia, her Alolan Ninetales, she cautiously leads the way in. The entry chamber to the Forbidden Crypt contains statues of nine ghost Pokémon, their eyes seeming to stare at the two the whole time they stood in the hallway. Her hair begins to stand on end from how haunted the place seems to be.[break][break]

The torch light illuminating the Forbidden Crypt glows in various purples, reds, and blues: the colors of WILL-O-WISPS. The four torches are on the opposite side of a vertical, translucent conduit for wandering souls that seem to not notice, or if they do notice, are indifferent to your presence. To the east is a door under lock, chain, and key. Beyond the translucent conduit, you can barely see more torchlight at the bottom of a pit, as well as an open passage sloping downward. Looking around, you determine that walking around the conduit would be trivial. "I'm glad I came with you; I would n-n-never have been able to come here by myself," Shalin stutters. Is this a fear of the paranormal?[break][break]

You put Shalin on the spot with your inquiry into her hesitation to proceed forward. She shakily points toward the ghost Pokémon on the other side of the soul conduit, flinching as one instinctively tries to LICK her, but is stopped in front of her face, as though observing through the looking glass of an aquarium. You conclude, after some observation and interaction, that a better term to describe them would be walls of souls rather than soul conduits. [break][break]

"I'm not... a very big fan of ghost Pokémon..." she trails off before reining her Ninetales away from you, heading around the wall of souls and deeper into the tomb.[break][break]

Your ROGUISH SENSES let you see four floating Duskull, patrolling an inner hallway with what appears to be a wooden, decrepit-looking chest at its end. While you make your observations, you can clearly see Shalin and her Ninetales steed on the far side of the room, shivering. On the other side of the phone, Ezra smirks. This big-bad guide was like a little girl with bugs. It was kind of cute, even if it was dumb as hell. If he ever ran into this green-haired mite, he’d be sure to test the game’s knowledge. Maybe jump out at her from a corner and yell boo. [break][break]

If this was real, he’d have tapped against the faux glass.[break][break]

Some guide. Ezra thinks as the lady just fucks off on her own. Still, his answer is obvious. This Settentrione does not waste time on scenic routes. He charges forward and usually just deals with the consequences. Sure, it wasn’t very roguish, but there was no sneaky human alive who could take on a ghost.

The ghosts beyond greet your attempt to pass with a series of paralyzing LICKS. You can't help but loose a clattering shout, which gets her immediate attention. She dashes around the corner to grab you, pry you away from the wall, and beyond the north exit. It seems that passage through the soul conduit would result in a one-way trip to the afterlife with your current skills and gear...

The following chamber is so dim that you can only see a row of objects you suspect are tombstones, arranger in a grid. Only the DAZZLING GLEAM of Shalin's Ninetales illuminates them, and even then, it seems something in the chamber is partially suppressing the light.[break][break]

Not wanting anything more to do with the creepy room, Shalin and her mount press further onward. No more than a split second after entering a chamber filled with debris on the west and north sides, a large coffin in a prominent spot close to the center of the room, a haunted voice echoes from a point you cannot discern. It bears a warning:[break][break]

"Be GoNe BeFoRe THe FiReS Go ouT, oR eLSe..."[break][break]

The room is illuminated by four large, purple box torches that are too large and heavy to move easily. No more than a second later, the first extinguishes. Shalin looks like she is scared stiff.[break][break]
