MOBILIZING TO SOOTOPOLIS involves the longest travel time possible. scouring through constant storms, a brewing hurricane, and stray lightning has taken their toll on league forces. when they reach a clearing, the hurricane’s eye, do they realize that they’re too late.

a small TEAM AQUA armada surrounds the only landmass still standing: the entrance to THE CAVE OF ORIGIN.

out of all the trainings, cassidy had not expected to be deployed into a hurricane. it may all be temporary, being a training simulation. but it certainly felt real; the winds that whipped and stung at her skin and the rains that drenched her clothes, chilling her to the bone.

they come upon team aqua quickly. she looks to Aurelie Lefevre, the person that was deployed alongside her. "let's hope for the best."

and then she releases her ninetails, pale shimmering fur and blue eyes. "team set. ready."

they attack first and ask questions later. her ninetails braces for the HYDRO PUMP from the PELIPPER, rushing water that threatens to blast her away. but it gives her a chance to attack. cassidy gives her directive. "vidya, FREEZE-DRY." a gust of cold air blasts towards the PELIPPER, aiming to freeze its wings so that it would not fly.

meanwhile, a WAILORD approaches her from the side, another HYDRO PUMP at the ready.

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]When the furious storm winds started lashing at Aurelie as soon as she was deployed into this strange new simulation, the redhead's first thought was, What in Arceus' name did mint frost drop us into? Her hair and clothes were instantly soaked from the unrelenting downpour, forcing Aurelie to squint her eye against the water already dripping off her bangs.

Gritting her teeth, she released her Tinkaton, who emerged with a rather startled expression at finding herself inside the eye of a developing hurricane. Still, to Aurelie's pride, she hefted her massive hammer resolutely in a defensive posture.

To the equally sodden but still lovely-looking girl next to her, Aurelie called out over the howling winds, "So, uh, nice weather we're having, right? I'd love to introduce myself, but—we've got incoming!"

Even before the words left her mouth, her Tinkaton was already leaping into action, having perceived the opponents' attacks long before Aurelie had. They were too late to prevent the HYDRO PUMP from the Pelipper, but Aurelie still shouted, "Use PROTECT, please!"

The Tinkaton whirled her hammer rapidly in a circle in front of the other Rocket grunt and her Ninetails, creating a shimmering safeguard to deflect the Wailord's incoming attack. The HYDRO PUMP was harmlessly repelled. But there was no time for celebration, when Aurelie noticed a fin rising from the ocean, veering straight toward them.

"You've got to be kidding me..." the redhead groaned, slapping her forehead with the palm of her hand in dismay.

From the churning ocean waters, a Sharpedo also came into sight. Baring a mouthful of cruel teeth, it too launched yet another HYDRO PUMP against them. The powerful blast of water struck her Tinkaton while she was still looking toward the Wailord. The Tinkaton reeled backwards from the power of the watery blast but managed to stay upright and hold her ground.

she frowns, none too pleased at the environment mint had dropped them into. of course, it was meant to train them for any and all possibilities, and as commander, she thinks it fitting that mint would not hold back.

the other girl releases her tinkaton. she nods in acknowledgement. "cassidy. a pleasure." she says.

the PROTECT helped prevent the wailord from sneaking up on vidya, and she nods in thanks to Aurelie Lefevre. but then she gasps as the tinkaton is hit with another hydro pump from the sharpedo. three against two was against the odds. they needed to decrease visibility. "vidya, hide us." she says.

a white haze of MIST begins to engulf the field, obscuring the both of them in a hazy mirage. "come closer." cassidy says, taking a step next to aurelie—they needed to stay together if the field was to be so obscured.

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]As white mist began to enshroud their immediate surroundings in swathes of dense vapor, it was no hardship at all for Aurelie to move closer toward the very pretty Rocket grunt assigned as her partner. Not that this was any time to flirt, let alone ask someone out to dinner, sadly. Though maybe after this simulation fight is over... the redhead thought speculatively.

Within the misty haze, they could hear the other trainers grumble aloud in surprise and see the outline of their startled Pokemon starting to circle closer. They were trying to figure out where the two women were, but the mist was doing its job of confusing and stymying them.

But then the Pelipper flapped toward them determinedly. Before Aurelie could do more than cry out, "Watch out!", the winged Pokemon launched an AIR CUTTER over their heads. Unthinkingly, she pushed cassidy to one side and flung up an arm to shield her face.

The fierce, razor-like wind scythed through the mist, parting it just enough to reveal their heads. Though the attack missed them—perhaps they'd only meant to dispel the mist—a stray gust grazed the side of Aurelie's wrist. Glancing up, she found her forearm damp with blood from a thin, dripping gash.

The redhead gritted her teeth and glared at the three trainers closing in with their Pokemon. "Oh, come on! You couldn't give us more than a minute or two in peace? Astucieux, get them!"

Clearly hurt from the HYDRO PUMP she'd suffered earlier, her Tinkaton gamely leaped at the Sharpedo. In a gesture of ferocity rather than affection, she planted a DRAINING KISS on the shark-like Pokemon. While the Sharpedo roared in pain, the Tinkaton's wounds slowly mended and closed up.

"Is there any way we can get past them and into that cave?" Aurelie asked, rummaging in her pockets for a bandage. "Can that mist still follow us if we try to make a run for it? Or do you have ways to slow them down or keep them stuck?"
