MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER CAN NOT FALL. A treasure trove of research, technology, and human and Pokemon accomplishment, this institution is a cornerstone of Hoenn pride and history. However, Rocket's infiltration thanks to Neffatari Nzingha's purple turn has plunged the center of science into peril.[break][break]

As Makoto Kurumi seeks answers for their Deoxys, Niola Winchester and Yujin Ha struggle to keep the Space Center operational. However, drastic measures may have to be made as hackers infiltrate the networks.

[attr="class","prompt0"]🛰️ Makoto Kurumi will uncover research regarding DEOXYS: scientists believe that each "core" is a particular forme of Deoxys. Young Deoxys may absorb other cores to learn how to transform into these new formes.

Much as Makoto had feared, war was here. League and Rocket were at eachothers' throats, trading blows in vicious fashion - and Makoto was drawn into the midst of it, enlisted to pull their weight.

They are simply thankful that they were not here to take lives - it was something that they felt they were nowhere near ready for. To aid in stealing intel - as much as they could - was a far more approachable and digestible task for them. Perhaps howard slayte and Tempest Quinn , or kepler brueshaber , could do something with some of this information... It'd only be a question of what they could find.

But to find it, first they had to sneak in. That was easy enough; with Kuro's Illusion, they would blend in amongst the hustling bustling chaos as a fellow League agent simply trying to fall back into the Space Center for safety. To protect that which is housed within. Noone would suspect that there was a fox in the chicken coop until it was too late, really, if things went Makoto's way.

They followed the flow of people as they made their way to the first computer that they could find - and if a few people found their credentials missing along the way, well... Makoto would ensure that their losses wouldn't go to waste, pocketing a keycard pilfered from another staff member who was too panicked to watch his pockets.

It's in slipping into a room of computers that they realize that they aren't alone - there's other people here. However, seeing how many of them are busy at computers of their own, Makoto hopes that sitting down at another computer will not make them too out of place. Hacking had its merits, for certain; but it couldn't beat simply having the keycard to let yourself in in the first place.

Once settled in though, they wasted no time in searching. Looking for the information they desired.

TLDR: Makoto is disguised as a League agent/staff member via Kuro's Illusion, having snuck into a computer room and settled in to blend in with other staff present and snoop at a computer. Kuro is hidden within their shadow presently.

Keyboards and monitors clatter as Yujin pushes them to the side. They weren’t giving her what she needed: only errors and infinite run-times and that bloody stack overflow. She sets up on new computers instead.[break][break]

“He’s stuck in the hall!”[break][break]

How many people do they have? She watches in dismay as comms channels fade out on her screens, becoming inactive; as the southern artillery refuses to fire despite all attempts to override protocol; as half the cameras in the building cut off and even more doors refuse to function, locking some of the staff and said computer expert in one of the halls outside, to which more still are struggling to let them in.[break][break]

In to here, MOSSDEEP CONTROL, central thoroughfare of the island’s technological arteries.[break][break]

And it’s a disaster. The island has hypertension beyond all belief and fatty plaque up every avenue.[break][break]

“...Cromwell just reported from that area. You!” She points at a sweaty man with glasses. “Get Genevieve Cromwell on the line!”[break][break]

Sure, Yujin had worn a lot of hats. She'd been a civil engineer for a time. A mechanical engineer. An electrical engineer. Heck, she’d even have to do some aerospace stuff. Was she about to achieve her final form and learn software, too?[break][break]

Either way, she was far too busy to notice Makoto slip into the room.[break][break]

Yujin strides back and forth, scowling at the poor staff. “Isn't Greyson in the area? Well, Wledig just sent some reinforcements our way. But where’s Livy? Little Big Ollie? They’re near the origin of the comms blackout, do they know anything? [break][break]

“And who is…”[break][break]

She falls speechless, catching on one of the building’s still active security cameras a dying researcher hands off intel worth multi millions into the hands of a young woman (Elaine Highland ) she'd never seen before.[break][break]

Yujin turns to the nearby intelligence officer, her unfortunate partner in these affairs, and waves at said screen with barely constrained rage.[break][break]

Niola Winchester prided herself on being able to thrive under intense pressure. So, tired of the same old political espionage in UNOVA that came with every election season, she'd decided on a well-needed setting change. Somewhere where she could test herself properly. Somewhere where she could grow. Somewhere, preferably, half the world away from her family.[break][break]

Had she known HOENN was on the cusp of war when she'd decided to move here? Perhaps she'd had a few clues. DIRECTOR BLACK had warned her against it, and even expressed what she might have interpreted as 'fatherly worry'. But what good was all of his investment in her— the training, the academies, the awards, the chance to learn from the best— if none of it wasn't being used?[break][break]

Being thrust into this foreign war so suddenly only proved one thing to her: the universe wanted to see what she was made of. It was directly daring Niola Winchester to do some good. And she didn't intend to disappoint it.[break][break]

At the central hub of the SPACE CENTER, otherwise known as MOSSDEEP CONTROL, Niola had already garnered a reputation as the demanding and very vocal Unovan who could, just as well, share a beer or two with you after work. But none of them knew exactly how implacable she could be until now: running the control center alongside Yujin Ha as they hurried to compile all the incoming data.[break][break]

"Why am I seeing red across the board?! Initiate a reboot for the coastal artillery system! Now!" She orders, removing her jacket in one fluid motion before casting it across a nearby swivel chair.[break][break]

"It's unresponsive, command leader! Something appears to be affecting our systems!"[break][break]

"Tch..." Bending down to check a nearby screen, the agent raps at the keys with a few strokes before tapping on the profile picture for one giada morgan and backing away. "There: a ranger with the amnesty program. This says she's somewhere on this island. Try and reach out to her to have this investigated. I'll go to try and initiate a manual reboot myself!"[break][break]

"Yujin, you got thi—" Just as she heads for the door, however, her co-command leader stops her to address a peculiar sight: a LEAGUE allied trainer on camera, departing in a very suspicious way with something in hand. "One of our own, from the looks of it." She responds, sharply turning to a nearby coworker with a pointed finger. "You there: run a facial recognition scan. We'll deal with this once the coastal artillery system is up and running. Otherwise..."[break][break]

Well... otherwise they likely wouldn't have the chance. Though she pauses to say as much as she looks up at the large command center screen in front of them all. It was obvious, wasn't it?[break][break]

Meanwhile, AUNTEANNA, the local FRIGIBAX pet for the MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER, waddles over to the stranger Makoto Kurumi sitting at the computer behind them all. Not only does the little dragon sniff curiously at the stranger, but it also deems their shadow to be very interesting...[break][break]

The room is a chaotic cacophony of people calling information out to one another; intel that Makoto quietly files away in the back of their mind for the time being. They do pass on a little bit of this inside perspective where they find brief pauses to - but at the present, they are more focused on their task.

In seeing what sort of information they could get on Legendary Pokémon; particularly that of Deoxys. And an entry - one that touches a little on the different formes of Deoxys - catches their eye. They are quick to plug in a USB drive to download as much as they can, whilst they skim over the info...

... Which, one thing that stands out to them in particular, is the mention of 'young' Deoxys. They can reproduce?!

A puff of breath against their leg (thankfully) prevents them from thinking too deeply about it - and glancing down, they notice Aunteanna sniffing about. Ah - a... Frigibax, right? The little one seemed curious - and they had a feeling that it could possibly smell Kuro as well.

Were this any other situation, Makoto might have been willing to humor the little dragon. The last thing they wanted in the moment, however, was for someone to notice that they were snooping where they weren't supposed to.

So, digging out a treat - a few soft caramels, Kuro's favorite - they hold them down to the dragon. "I'm sorry, but I'm busy - if you want to find something else to do, I'll give you treats for until things calm down." They whisper, their voice hushed underneath the chaos.

Hopefully, some bribery would take the Frigibax's attention off of them until they can slip away with all the information they could pilfer; though fate might not work in their favor today...

TLDR: Makoto is disguised as a League agent/staff member via Kuro's Illusion. They are snooping on the computer for any information about Legendaries, particularly Deoxys + downloading what they find onto a usb drive. Attempts to bribe Frigibax with treats to get it to leave them alone without a fuss.

Yujin and the rest of the staff grimace. The southern sea was dotted with Rocket ships, and if they all touched down on the island, they’d be overwhelmed within the hour.[break][break]

“Go ahead, Niola. If it’s a tech problem, I’ll fix it here.” And if it’s physical it’s down to you.[break][break]

Tucked away in a corner of the room was her porygon-z, roosting in a nest of haphazard cables and computer screens. Silent thus far, it whirred and beeped as it assisted the staff in holding the line against the multifold assault of viruses, hacking, and destroyed connections.
Once the facial recognition scan completes, Yujin hijacks the closest communicator on Elaine’s person: her earpiece.[break][break]

“Elaine Highland ?” This is MOSSDEEP CON... Yujin speaking.[break][break]

”That device... zzt...-op Secret. Do not under any circumstances let it fall to Rocket.[break][break]

Do not return to the Space Center, it is compromised.[break][break]

Do not… zzzt… head west. Avatar bat…. -mminent.”

Yujin's call to action snaps Niola back to the immediate situation. "Right." She nods, tearing her eyes away from the screen in front of them as she turns. "I'll radio in if I find som—" A passing glance at her personal monitor nearby abruptly stops her.[break][break]

A local system alert.[break][break]

A yellow exclamation point amongst a sea of red.

The system was put in place to keep a record of staff activity. Anything unusual was to be marked and announced in case a hacker managed to break through their digital security measures somehow. This way they would know what information was stolen and take measures to boot the unwelcomed user before they could steal any more.[break][break]

Bending down to access this system alert, Niola narrows her eyes. Someone in this room was accessing the DXYS files. Someone who wasn't aligned with their cause or current predicaments. But the system was having trouble revealing exactly who. Interference.[break][break]

So, with a few clicks, the HBIC agent takes it upon herself to LOCK DOWN the control room. The borders of the screen glow an ominous red as the electronic locks at each exit slide shut. Everyone stops their work for a moment in confusion.[break][break]

Though they couldn't really afford to pause their counter-hacking measures, Niola hoped giada morgan had received their message and could buy them some time. "Hands up— everyone!" She orders after sharply turning around, placing a hand securely on the gun holstered to her hip.[break][break]

"This control center has been compromised. One of you is accessing confidential information. And I don't want to see another damn keystroke until I find out who!"[break][break]

And, as her suspicious eyes begin to scrutinize every face, the Frigibax takes the offer made by Makoto Kurumi eagerly. Perhaps a bit too eagerly as its teeth accidentally nip their fingers.[break][break]

"Yujin, can you check their monitors? I doubt the culprit had enough time to tab out. I'll keep watch." She assures her compatriot.[break][break]

Makoto lets out a little hiss, as the Frigibax's teeth catch their fingertip - startled, especially when paired with the sudden lockdown. Fuck, they'll have to try and play it cool. Hope that they aren't singled out.

They straighten right up, having to resist the urge to go for the keyboard or the USB drive. Instead, as they sit up, they whisper an urgent "Kuro."

At their call, the ghostly Hisuian Zorua would attempt to extend its Illusion to the computer, attempting to conceal the USB drive and put together some facsimile of what the others have on their screens. However - whether or not it'd be an accurate enough illusion, on such short notice, would be the question. Especially when Kuro is having to focus on so much at once...

... But, just in case, they keep a hand near their belt. Just in case they need to bring out another pokemon.

Just in case they are found out.

TLDR: Makoto is nipped, ow! As lock down occurs, they whisper to Kuro - who attempts to extend its Illusion to the computer to try and hide anything amiss. However, with it being hurried and at the same time as maintaining Makoto's disguise, the possibility of mistakes is there. Makoto keeps a hand readied to call out another pokemon, just in case.

Yujin whips around at Niola’s announcement. Her first thought—hands inching upwards—is what, me too? When she’s asked for help instead, she finds herself flooded with mixed sentiment.[break][break]

Somewhere along the jagged road through life, Yujin Ha had become someone trustworthy to the ‘good guys’.[break][break]

That feels good. That also feels like a mistake.[break][break]

The click of a gun’s safety switch rings ominously in the quiet. Next a pokeball is released, and the room seems to grow a few degrees colder with the glalie’s presence.[break][break]

Her porygon-z, after all, was still focused on the ignition sequence for the coastal artillery.[break][break]

It doesn’t take long at all for Yujin to hone in on Makoto—as an investigator, she knows a little about guilty body language. Not to mention the very obviously unusual behavior of the frigibax.[break][break]

She stands behind them, leaning down to chuckle in their ear.[break][break]

Niola's eyes narrow on the suspect. The fact that Aunteanna seemed so interested in them was already a red flag. The little Frigibax was already supposed to know everyone who worked in central command. They were on strict orders not to feed her.[break][break]

Or someone trespassing?

Her gut had an immediate answer. And, in her field, her gut was usually right. "ICY WIND them in place!" She orders the little dragon just before an alarm sounds off. Despite the situation at hand currently, she whips around to acknowledge the glitched warning message on the large screen in front of them. Somebody was hacking their systems.[break][break]

And, whether or not the Frigibax was successful in detaining Makoto Kurumi to their chair, this demanded Niola's immediate attention. "Everyone back to work!" She exclaims, rushing back to her computer to access her control panel.[break][break]

"Yujin, please tell me you have the perp under control! We need you back at your station!"[break][break]

Yujin's keen eye did well in spotting the oddities in Makoto's disguise; they were simply grateful that their true face was concealed even beyond Kuro's Illusions.

However, in being discovered, a number of actions occurred all at once. Perhaps Yujin would be able to hear the growl, like that of some small dog, that came from Makoto's shadow - shortly before Niola made a command for Icy Wind. And as Aunteanna begins to wind up her attack, a pair of golden eyes shone from their shadow...

... Both were the only warnings given, before Kuro emerged to let loose a Bioluminescent Bait - a blinding flash of light suddenly shining outwards, to stun anyone near Makoto!

Taking advantage of the chaos, Makoto would grab and pocket the USB drive with the information they were able to pilfer with one hand, and send out a pair of pokemon with the other - Tsukiko and Matsu.

With the Alolan Ninetales' entry, snow filled the air from Snow Warning - beauteous and glimmering. Kuro would slip into the fox's shadow, so as to conceal the Ninetales' more unusual and identifying features, all the whilst. The shiny Forretress, meanwhile, would slowly rotate in place, watching their surroundings.

Makoto took in a deep, shuddering, breath - though this was no place to express it, the snow was leaving them thinking a little bit of the incident in Dewford... But okay. They didn't want this to come to a fight, but... "If you left me be, I would've been content to leave you all to your own devices." They spoke simply, putting on a confident air, despite inner feelings.

TLDR: Welp, the jig's up! Kuro uses Bioluminescent Bait to flinch Aunteanna and blind everyone near Makoto. Makoto, meanwhile, takes advantage to pocket the USB and send out Tsukiko (who starts up a snowfall with Snow Warning,) and Matsu. Kuro slips into Tsukiko's shadow, to hide her shiny/illumina features. Makoto talks a light amount of shit to put on a confident air.

After the flashbang and the snowstorm, Yujin eventually reappears from the commotion—a shimmering shield of ice reflecting around her, sunglasses mysteriously in place, and frowning every so slightly.[break][break]

Needless to say, she didn’t so openly goad the suspicious individual without some sort of plan in place. And being shielded from the onslaught meant observing a few interesting details that the intruder tried very hard to obscure, including the leaping shadow.[break][break]

“Zorua! Lock-on to it.”[break][break]

The porygon’s head swivels from across the room.[break][break]

Hail begins to fall, neutering the control room’s cohesion. Yujin didn't need to say anything for Niola to understand this reality.[break][break]

"If you left me be, I would've been content to leave you all to your own devices."[break][break]

Yujin raises an eyebrow. Her only response is to level her gun and fire it point-blank into Makoto’s chest, because she is still standing right next to them. Fire multiple times, even, because the second rule of the apocalypse is the double-tap.

Information was being stolen. Niola Winchester had deduced as much from the readings on her computer, though she wasn’t sure how many sources had breached central command’s systems. That being said, she had a difficult choice to make in light of the current situation. So, before any of these hackers could spend another second pilfering their data, the Unovan triggers an OVERLOAD, unwittingly affecting the efforts of Alba Evovae nearby as well.[break][break]

A bright red banner that reads ‘WARNING’ flashes across the large screen before the sound of explosions rumble from the floor beneath their feet. As a result of this counter-offensive, both Alba Evovae and Makoto Kurumi will find their files corrupted from the instant severance. They will have to rely on their memory to steal the information they had gleaned so far.[BREAK][BREAK]

Turning over her shoulder, Niola sees Aunteanna’s ICY WIND fail as it is struck with a strange attack beforehand. The flash succeeds in blinding the little dragon as it scampers backward with a cry. Far from the flash herself, Niola is considerably less affected as she draws her gun and aims at the ILLUMINA ZORUA. ”Aunteanna, DRAGON BREATH! Everybody down!”[BREAK][BREAK]

BANG BANG BANG!

Shots ring out as all of the employees crouch down behind their computers. Though Niola doubts she’d managed to do anything but send the Zorua running for cover, the Frigibax at her command blindly sweeps a roaring blue flame over the newly summoned Pokemon to try and pin them down: namely, the NINETALES and the FORRETRESS.[BREAK][BREAK]

”Focus your combined efforts on prepping the COASTAL ARTILLERY system! NOW!”[BREAK][BREAK]

Though Yujin attempts to shoot at Makoto, a shimmering light protects them, as Tsukiko sets up an Aurora Veil, the beauteous lights filling the room. Makoto is equally relieved and shaken; they are okay, but knowing that things could have quickly gone wrong was understandably harrowing.

Drawing a knife, they move to try and wrest the gun from Yujin's grip, knife poised to strike at her limbs in the (likely guaranteed) event of retaliation. Though they may not be a professional combatant, you could easily say the same of any cornered beast and it'd be no less dangerous.

Additional gunfire rings out - and though it strikes at Tsukiko's shadow, Kuro - as a ghost - avoids most if not outright any harm that would have dealt.

The Dragon Breath, meanwhile, sweeps out across the two pokemon; the azure flames are thoroughly ignored by Tsukiko thanks to her fairy-typing, and the sturdy Matsu isn't hurt all too much. However, the Forretress in question is driven to hide in its shell rather than act, amidst the chaos.

Kuro, however, is paying attention to everything that goes on. Whilst it is able to avoid the Dragon Breath whilst hidden in Tsukiko's shadow, it does not know if it is safe from whatever the Porygon-Z may attempt... So, it attempts to Detect whatever may come its way.

TLDR: Alolan Ninetales sets up Aurora Veil to protect Makoto from the gunfire, and to also protect the rest of her team. She is unaffected by the Dragon Breath as a Fairy-type. Forretress flinches from the Dragon Breath, and hides within their shell as a result. Hisuian Zorua avoids the gunfire whilst hidden in Tsukiko's shadow ghost-style, and uses Detect to try and figure out/avoid whatever the Porygon-Z has planned.

Makoto, meanwhile, draws a knife and attempts to get the gun away from Yujin, prepared to swing the knife at limbs if necessary to Not Get Shot Again. They are not a professional at combat, but they have a lot of adrenaline and self-preservation instinct driving them to fight like hell.

Irritation floods through Yujin as all the nearby employees get pelted by hail and particle effects, the dragon breath sweeping through the computers. In the back of her mind—egged on by Niola’s warnings—was the reminder that the two of them had so much they needed to be doing right now.[break][break]

But they couldn’t. Because of this absurd fiasco.[break][break]

“...Hahaha.”[break][break]

In times of stress, rage, grief, anxiety, or just plain adrenaline, she has long defaulted to an insidious mania. It was her signature; her own emotional thief, and every worthwhile thief leaves a calling card. And it's been several years since someone's pulled a knife on her, perhaps not since her military days.[break][break]

Exciting![break][break]

Yujin reaches blindly behind her with her free hand; fingers fly across the nearby desk until it comes across a computer monitor, which will do just fine.[break][break]

All the while her glalie swells in size and demeanor, and seeing the forretress clam up from the previous attack, closes in on it by unhinging its massive jaws and then snapping them closed around its form. And from the porygon's end, an arc of electricity lances towards the ninetails and its shadow.[break][break]

“Why hesitate, sweetie.”[break][break]

Through the rapidly decreasing visibility, one can hear the agent’s howl of laughter as a peal of black intercepts through the veil, her hand closed around the monitor’s stand and swinging it to meet the knife like a shield.[break][break]

It shatters through the screen, becoming stuck.[break][break]

“Rockets shouldn’t pretend to care about lives.”[break][break]

Wind and hail and blurred lights haze around them, battering them, so she holsters her gun.[break]
Instead, Yujin deliberately pulls the blade out of the shards of the liquid crystal display, twirling it with casual familiarity.[break][break]

“Here. This is how you hold a knife like you mean it.”
