An invasion on Petalburg— on the mainland.

Who the hell had authorized such a nonsensical operation?

The whole thing felt off.

As he rushed to the frontline, his feet kicking at the pedals of his bike, the creeping fear snaked its way around the back of his consciousness, telling him things were not normal.

Rocket did not have have the manpower to both invade Mossdeep, defend Sootopolis, and also attempt a boots on the ground operation in Petalburg.

They lacked the means of maintaining their hold on a city surrounded from all sides even if they somehow succeeded on some reckless surprise attack.

This whole thing was a military impossibility.

Unless...

Unless...!

He clamped down on the bike's breaks as a massive tree suddenly came tumbling into his path.

For a while now, a fire had been beginning to race through the woods— it appeared it was closing in around the main roads.

There was no mistaking the source— a mad dog was howling loud enough for the whole of Petalburg to know.

"I just keep bein' reminded of my failures." The youth thought darkly as his eyes were drawn towards the sound, jaw clenching.

Too many times, he had let that man get away. He had healed the man, even.

His eyes fleeted down to the bike beenath him, a deep breath following before he climbed off, letting it drop to the ground.

angelo vestri's gift had served him well— but he couldn't protect it here. He could only hope it would not become lost in what came next.

His digits fleeted over the holster beneath his pit as he marched forth, hopping atop the toppled tree to find the mad dog... before his hand slowly slid off, leaving it in place.

"Are you out of your damn mind?" He spoke up over the flames, against his better judgement.

There really was no point in trying to reason with the former beast.

The soldier appeared eerily unconcerned about the several men surrounding him, his eyes fleeting briefly over them before moving towards the pokemon causing the flames, assessing them silently.

Then, he took in a deep breath, eyes on turning to the sky.

It was a beautiful, sunny day.

Hundreds of thousands of people were in need of a medical assistance.

Yuina Higashi had a new exhibition going on.

All that, and yet here he was.

About to fight to the death with a bunch of faceless thugs and a arsonist psychopath

"We could all be reading a nice book right now." He said softly as a rock slide came crashing around him, the tree beneath his feet cracking and collapsing as massive boulders speared through it.

As they neared him, however, light seemed to refract before him. Thin strands of silvery thread suddenly became visible before him as the boulders were caught in...

Near Imperceptible webbing.

A skittering cackle filled the air as a Spidops crawled around the colonel.

"How many times have we done this, Mad dog?" He asked, jaw tensing as he reached for his neck, popping it as he hopped of what barely remained of the tree, stepping on unseen threads as he descended.

"Do I have to just let'cha melt yer own face off this time?" He said, tiredly, mouth set on a flat line.

His gaze was drawn back to the infinite sky— almost as vast as the hateful ignorance of the man before him. He could feel his blood pressure rising every time Dorian opened his mouth.

Worse than a waste of time, talking to the man may as well have been actively harmful to him.

"I don't know why I bother. " He said, before snapping into focus, eyes sharp and unblinking as fire roared towards him, his arm sweeping through the air. "Fine! We'll play your stupid game."

A macabre snicker left his Spidops lips as it suddenly leapt back, a shadow lunging behind the trunk in the air. Spindly, long legs twitched erratically as a massive arachnid took to the front, the sun glittering off its water bubble as its limbs suddenly snapped around its own head.

Plucking at the water bubble, it suddenly grew to massive size as its arms spread wide, creating a gargantuan, perfectly round mass of water.

The Spidops suddenly leapt onto the larger spider, plucking its jaws inside the water ball and releasing a mass of Acid spray as the Araquanid dropped the sphere in the blazes path.

Upon contact with the ground, it exploded outwards into a torrent, flooding the surrounding area.

Raising his gaze towards the Charizard above, Doug suddenly snapped his hand forward, blasting scales towards it.

"Get down here, lizard."

"Designed by who? Entropy?" He almost bit his tongue.

That was a shit joke. It was hard for him to think of anything really funny in the presence of Dorian Westcliff. It was hard to even feel like himself, really.

Loathe as he was to admit it, he wasn't immune to hate.

His eyes shifted from one pokemon to the other quickly.

"Just do as always, lads." He said as he slid his hand over a glove, tugging it into place as he raised his hand, a tera orb in place.

A dark chuckle rumbled through the Spidops' torax as it leapt forth before both storm and raining fire, its many appendages spreading wide and jetting out thick, branching webbing all about from within the water bubble.

A large wall of intricate webs spread before them, sealing together into an intricate pattern as the tera orb came crashing into the spider's head.

A poisonous crown found its way unto the Spidops' head as it clung to its web-barrier, toxic sludge pouring into the water bubble and soon spreading down to the webbing the storm and blazes came crashing against it.

With nimble, spindly limbs, Araquanid leapt atop the toxic water bubble of the Spidops, fleeting over it as if ice skating, its eyes flashing as it stared down the shadow Armarouge.

Immediately, it would feel its strength being sapped— no, split.

Doug made no effort to dodge the Charizard.

The flying lizard came down painfully upon the soldier, tearing through nearly invisible webbing and the wooden trunk beneath him to bury them both down.

Within that hole, however, it would feel a hand move to clamp around its long neck.

"You know what? That's on me."

Scales flowed freely as the colonel's arms and knees moved to try and seal around its neck and shoulders in a lying headlock.

"I did say get down."

"Don't need saving." He grunted, limbs still wrapped around the Charizard's neck.

Unable to see what was going on from within the smokescreen, the two spiders leapt unto the vast webbing the Spidops had created, one utilizing Spider's Web to amplify its reach and prevent any further escapes while the other hid amongst the trees, awaiting to strike.

For his part, Doug's attempts at holding on were foiled by the Mega-cocoon, his body getting repelled roughly as the Charizard emerged in its newly empowered form, hot blue flames pouring out the sides of its maw as the youth rose back to his feet.

"Yer gambling skills must suck." He scoffed as his blistered skin slowly healed up, his eyes zeroing into the suddenly much, much more dangerous lizard he had to deal with.

"Ya keep taking this bet— and it's yet to pay off." He said, lowering himself into a ready stance as the dragon came at him.

He did not move out of the way as it came however, his eyes growing briefly wide as the comms at his sides came in, Elise Calcifet's words blaring through and seemingly rooting him to the spot.

Blazing hot claws tore into and through flesh as the soldier barely managed to side step, large chunks of his torso missing as the news continued to ripple through him.

The spider did not require flushing out— for it was not an escapee, but an ambush predator.

As the titanous Gouging fure lunged towards the spidops, a mass of sticky webbing came barreling from within the tree tops as the fires began to consume the battlefield.

But the Spidops was not concerned with fire— not with the unnatural water bubble covering it as it were. It lunged forward as the webbing descended upon the paradox pokemon, its toxic tera-crown roaring to life and sputtering vile toxic venom as its several limbs flashed a deep violet.

A roaring flurry of venomous strikes came as it striked at the fire giant, unleashing a jojo-esque barrage of poisonous jabs.

For his part, Doug got buried beneath the rock slide, unable to make the necessary effort to get out of the way, disappearing beneath the rocks.

Laying there beneath the rock pile, the pain would've been blinding to anyone that somehow managed to survive.

Doug however, was only focused on the conundrum he found himself in. The hospital was under attack— he had to get back in there and help Elise Calcifet evacuate.

But the front line was filled with trainers and soldiers fighting for both their lives and those of the citizens; they needed all the help they could get as well.

And he couldn't just leave this psychopath alone either. He would burn the entire forest to the ground if left on his own.

Fuck, fuck, fuck—!!!
