"Yo, Remiel. C'mere." From the ether, Remiel Calcifet heard a voice. A familiar voice intimately familiar to the Crown Prince. From the museum's gift shop, the voice of the royal's mortal enemy Howard Slayte beckoned like a spider coaxing a fly into its webs with promises of honey. "Remy."

The prince would see Howard's hat poking out from behind the Aerodactyl slipper rack. He was poorly hidden, but the archaeologist had the tendency to be glossed over with crowds.

It also helped that the gift shop was crowded with customers, each trying to get their hands on one of the elusive Anorith plushies that tended to sell out instantly. It was a mystery unless one visited Howard's cubicle and saw his pile.

"C'mere." He gestured. "Quickly."

EARL GREY catches the first whisper. The little teacup's pause, as they head down the hall to the mineral sciences lab, stops Remiel Calcifet in his tracks shortly thereafter. His calculating blue eyes narrow as he tries to discern the identity of the second whisper. The gift shop that they'd shared each other's company at previously assisted in his endeavor.[break][break]

It was howard slayte calling to him.

[BREAK]

By now, the two had worked alongside one another long enough for Remiel to dispel any suspicions or ill will— for the time being. It is why the Galarian archaeologist crosses the gap with little hesitation, meeting the man past the small crowd of museum attendees that filled the aisles. "Howard? What is it?" He asks with a curious raise of his brow, stopping to follow his line of sight.[BREAK][BREAK]

At first, he sees nothing of note... until a familiar face comes into view. The look of intrigue on his face melts away to reveal a sigh and the hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "You know, he and I don't dress all too differently. Though I would never wear a bow-tie..." The exiled prince adds.[BREAK][BREAK]

Not since his mother stopped dressing him, anyway.

There were two Foxes hiding behind a rack in a gift shop. If any of Howard's colleagues saw this, they'd likely break his legs. The fact that he and Remiel were collaborating over the disaster that was Gideon's fashion sense was likely akin to treason. Remiel Calcifet might've been the prince of ideals, but he spoke an untouchable truth.

GIDEON GRAVES's clothing choice was abhorrent. Newborn babes spoke it from their mothers' breasts and old men uttered it with their dying rattles. Kalosians thought it. Galarians thought it. Almians thought it.

Yes, it was the truth. Gideon's clothing today was vile.

"Remy, I know we have our differences. You like tea, I like coffee. You're Galarian, I'm..." The Galarian. At a point, but not anymore. "Hoennian. My hat is cooler than your crown, yadda yadda. But this might be the thing that truly unifies us."

If only Team Rocket and the League could bear witness to Gideon's attire.

Look, look." Howard expressed glee as the director walked past. "Look at his shoes!"

Remiel scoffs at the mention of a crown, though also at the prospect of Howard's hat being cooler than a crown. Nevertheless, he lets that slip by with an amused smile as their attention shifts to Gideon's shoes. And, admittedly, Howard has a point.[BREAK][BREAK]

"Bloody hell, what crypt did he rob for those?" The Galarian chuckles, squinting with absolute disbelief as he watches them in action. "Should we report them to somebody? The Cultural Heritage Board, perhaps? Those look like they belong in an exhibit of their own. And this coming from a man who was dressed by his nanny the first fifteen years of his life." He laughs, shaking his head.[BREAK][BREAK]

"I think I've seen those in a Kalosian museum, actually. I'll make a few calls when I get the chance." Howard scratched his chin, and then coughed into his fist. "Wait. Waitwaitwaitwaitwait..."

Record scratch. The archaeologist looked towards his colleague.

"Fifteen years? Arceus above, man." He almost felt bad for the Crown Prince for the first time in his life. Remiel was a scoundrel and the medieval equivalent of a trust fund baby, but nobody deserved such an abhorrent fate. "That's rough."

Howard was sat for a spell, before pointing.

"HE'S WEARING VIVILLON SOCKS!!!"

Much too loud.

When the attention shifts to him suddenly, Remiel raises a brow. "What? That's earlier than most in the social class I was brought up in." He assures his colleague. Realizing how defensive he sounded, however, he looks away and reaches up to abashedly rub the back of his neck. "But I suppose the world of Galarian royalty is outside your purview..."[BREAK][BREAK]

Thankfully, the tacky Vivillion socks that GIDEON GRAVES wore seized the limelight back. Though, perhaps, a bit too loudly. Enough so that the archaeologist was suddenly conscious of the fact that they were essentially making fun of their employer.[BREAK][BREAK]

"Shhh!" He hushes Howard with a yank of his sleeve that nearly sends them both into a pile of Kabuto and Omanyte plushies. "Are you trying to get his attention?!" The royal exasperatedly asks, peeking around the corner to see if GIDEON GRAVES had, in fact, taken notice.[BREAK][BREAK]

"I've got a new proposal for an exhibit waiting on his desk, you know. This sort of thing would surely jeopardize it!"[BREAK][BREAK]

GIDEON GRAVES has not taken notice. They're safe. Though that might be because he was distracted by a nearby Vivillon, bless the director's heart. His appreciation for insects is matched only by Remiel and Howard's passion for archaeology, and for the former's appreciation for dragons.

"My bad. My bad!" Howard grumbled as he poked his head out next to Remiel's. "Sorry, geez..."

Then, the admin's ears perked up as Remiel mentioned his exhibit. He got a fucking exhibit??? Royalty was getting way too many perks these days. It wasn't fair. Where was the justice in this world?

"What's the exhibit on, crown prince? Dragons? Galarian history? Is Gideon updating the Hall of Bones, finally?"

"Masterpieces from the Tomatoma collection," Remiel proudly smiles, his back against the shelves of Kabuto and Kabutops plushies that seemed to reach out to him with their claws. "I've been working on it for months. It'll probably be the largest collection of Draconid sculptures in the world... assuming Gideon approves it."[BREAK][BREAK]

But that smile falters as he turns back to peek at their boss from around the corner of the display.[BREAK][BREAK]

"The logistics of making such a thing possible are... costly. That's not to mention the pieces I plan on having shipped over from KALOS. Smuggling never runs more rampant than during the chaos of wartime." He sighs, recalling his deeds as ADMIN FOX during the ULTRA BEAST WAR. Turning back to his associate, however, he raises a curious brow and changes the subject.[BREAK][BREAK]

"How about you? Anything interesting in the works, Slayte?"[break][break]

"In the world?" The archaeologist's eye grew as wide as a saucer as he regarded the crown prince. "Incredible! I hope he approves it."

Silently, the admin made a note to keep an eye on Kalos. He'd ask BARNABY FINCH for some pointers on harrying the former admin's precious cargo, though actively messing with it seemed out of the question. One of the things that Howard had learned from his colleagues was to avoid shitting where he ate.

Separate work from play. Separate this life from Team Rocket's life. Keep living the lie, until everything could burn to the ground.

"I lost a Hisuian general's war helm carved from a Cranidos's skull a few months back to smugglers, I think. Never made it to the museum. Really sucked, too. It would've looked great next to the display I was assembling."

Truthfully, the piece was sitting in his office at headquarters. He was pretty sure that Shred drank his whiskey out of it.

"Less project, more academia. I'm drafting a proposal to connect Galar's Darkest Day to Hoenn. Trying to raise awareness on the subject, plus I'd kill for a few more grants..."

The admin's eye grew wistful as he translated grant money into more fossils to buy for his collection. He quickly snapped back to reality.

"If you need help with your project, give me a shout. I don't mean to brag, but..." He puffed out his chest. "Got myself a signed copy of freya morningstar's book. Even got Dr. Morales to sign it, too. They also gave me an Applin."

Remiel sincerely laments the loss of Howard's artifact. It weighs on his expression darkly, a flicker of fire sparking to life in his eyes when he considers that the new ADMIN FOX could be to blame. He'd heard rumours of his replacement's deeds. And, in a way, he felt responsible for all of it— like this was someone he needed to prioritize tracking down as soon as possible.[break][break]

But, whoever the new ADMIN was, the EXACTING was certain they'd eventually come scurrying out into the light themselves. He just needed to apply more pressure to TEAM ROCKET as a whole. Give Walsh something to seethe about after burning down one operation too many.[break][break]

In response to his colleague's offer, however, the archaeologist forces a smile and nods. "Likewise. The DARKEST DAY is one of the factors that led to my resignation as GALARIAN AMBASSADOR," He explains, shifting his eyes away with a hint of shame. "It's why the GALAR-HOENN relationship has been so fractured since then."[break][break]

Needless to say, any insights into the subject might prove beneficial to healing said fracture between the two regions and assisting GALAR's current ambassador to HOENN: Elise Calcifet herself.[break][break]

Meanwhile, though Remiel shows awe at the fact that howard slayte knows freya morningstar and Eva Morales as well, he casually changes the topic of conversation upon realizing something with a slight squint of his eyes. "Say... is there something different about you? Your hair, maybe?" He inquires, tilting his head.[BREAK][BREAK]
